      Its easy. Get up at 430am when the house is quiet and hit record. Remember to never crack a smile. If you meant the editing, I use a program called Shotcut. Its full featured and free.

      @@TheGreasyShopRag I am struggling to learn editing software outside of TH-cam studio. Is that one you mention for pc or phone? I just learned how to merge videos and add text layover

      @@chainsawredeemer85 Shotcut is used on a computer. If I had to try to use my phone to edit videos there would be no videos. I usually have three video tracks...me, the rat and the work on the bench. Sometimes more if you see writing on the screen. Transition cuts, zoom, speed up scenes, resize. I then detach the audio and clean that up into two tracks...the sounds from the bench and my voice then I add whatever music in a third audio track. Fun stuff.

      @@TheGreasyShopRag What kind of camera do you use? Ppl have told me don't get a go pro they overheat. I tried a cheap $200 one on Amazon and had to convert formatting etc... no go. A friend donated a cannon rebel digital camera but it only takes like 12 minutes. Tech is nkt my strong suit. Any suggestions? And may I mention you on my channel? I'm a bit odd lol but ppl have taken to it so I'll "keep in character". Nice job. Like a surgeon with the forceps. My mistake, get going to fast and stop looking at the screws while disassembling.

      My biggest problem is leaving hardware laying on the bench before I start a repair and then discovering it after the repair and wondering if it was supposed to be on that machine.

    How much vertical scoring is acceptable? How does scoring affect engine performance?

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If there is metal transfer between the piston and cylinder then thats not acceptable. Heat builds in these scored areas and because of expansion and metal debris eventually the piston rings get stuck in there grooves. Now compression is lower because the ring(s) don't seal. This may make the engine difficult or impossible to start or if the engine was already running it could lose power or completely stop or possibly just make warm starts difficult.
      Some vertical lines that you couldn't feel with a fingernail may just be from excess heat. Those will eventually become scoring.

    • @steveriggenbach90
      @steveriggenbach90 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also look for carbon scoring. Breaks off from the top goes across the rings and is trapped between piston and wall. Also when the land folds over the ring. Great answer Scott, I’m constantly learning from you.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@steveriggenbach90 Yes there is carbon scoring too. Maybe that will come up in a future repair. Then there is also mechanical scoring when a foreign object besides carbon finds it way in there (bearing cage, etc) or when someone uses a screwdriver through the exhaust port as a piston stop and actually damages the piston. Yes we see that.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@albertkropp Sometimes if the damage isn't much. There are different methods and thoughts on the subject. I don't repair scored cylinders but you can find videos of people that do.
