+Vikram Mervyn Paul Newman as great an versatile actor that he was, I feel he wasn't given the accolades he deserved in his early career. Not that he didn't get the some great scripts, but that he was up against fellow actors like Brando, Peck, and Douglas who were great in their own right, but seemed to grab the lions share of the limelight. Paul Newman will always be my favorite.
+Marco Arguilez Absolutely, I mean I think Paul Newman is as capable of doing a role like The Godfather as Marlon Brando was. Marco, Paul Newman's characters are SUPER Awesome!
Brando in the 50s was one of a kind and an innovator of a highly emotional, highly passionate style others copied. Paul, for the most part, early on, played a less outwardly emotional character but, instead, was introspective and worldy with a blunt manner of expressing his thoughts, e.g., Hud, Harper, and Hombre. Over time, he got more expressive emotionally and had greater range. I love both actors' work but, for me, no one tops Bogie for all-around versatility and range.
George Kennedy was old school and he was able to transfer in the new school he wouldn't you wouldn't only Cool Hand Luke everything he did was good all the old good actors has long been gone now we got a line of young old actors the damn sure ain't old school like the old guys
Powerfull scene. One of my favorites. I watched with my kids age 35 and 36 and they were blown away. The Sting,One Flew Over the Cuckoo's those were the days.
My wife's brother managed a tree trimming crew. When they'd trim Paul Newman's trees, he'd come out and drink beer with them after they had finished. He definitely wasn't one of the plastic people in Hollyweird. It's a sign of great character that he was able to resist allowing that much fame (well earned!) from going to his head.
Pioneer JVS showed this beautiful, WONDERFUL Classic in 1975 in an assembly for the students...never understood why...until I grew up...Thank you PJVS!!!!!
Paul Newman loved playing this role. He said, with a character like that, an actor can perform miracles. After he did this scene with the Plastic Jesus, he ran to the director and said, "I can do it better." Rosenberg, the director said, "No one could have done that any better." He was right.
