in the original, the "safety ring" not only stops "mortal blows", it ALSO makes the wearer completely immune to ALL bad status effects!
i always put it on Peach, since she can use her magic to cure all bad effects!
VERY handy when Smilax tries to turn everyone into mushrooms!
also, the "work pants" are surprisingly good, especially for Bowser.
if Belome tastes Bowser, he says, "yuck! how repulsive!", and for Peach, he says, "mmm, peachy."
if the Pink Ranger is not the last one beatien, she says "my makeup's smeared!" and Red retorts, "then change brands!"
I like how he gave us tips for the lazy shells, he do care for his fans.
"yari" in "yaridovich" is basically a Japanese style spear that was used by samurai
so they literally just translated the one part of his name into english lmao. i assume the same is for the other members
What an awesome remake of a legendary game, this is. Well done, Choc, but you'd better get to that post-game. Those rematches are something else, even at max level.
And if you defeat Smithy again, some the epilogue scenes will be changed.
I mean, they are tough, but tbh the most trouble I had were the gimmicky ones like Punchinello and Booster. The others were at least easier to figure out or could be brute forced with Lazy Shell Peach.
Punchinello especially. In my experience, you have to get a perfectly timed hit to turn the Bob-ombs around. And unless you perfect guard, they're doing a lot of damage even to LS Peach.

Hey, Choctopus, there's a secret code you can do in the party menu. If you do the inputs Up, Down, Right, Left, L, R, L, R, B, something happens. People, please like this so Choctopus sees this!
The code starts with "Down, Up", not "Up, Down".
I think the saddest part is the geno toy kid is playing with mom, and she's trying, but the kid looks out the window like he yearns for adventure or misses his friends or something. So emotional.
Not to spoil too much but the massive Geno Whirl damage does work on Exor, although you definitely know that since you played the Original. (Not trying to be rude in anyway)

It's been fun watching this Super Mario RPG playthrough from beginning to end Choc. Hope you have a great new year!!, and hope you achieve your goals in 2024.
I never played the original, and still haven't finished this yet. But watching the end and knowing how much this game means to you, i legit cried. The soundtrack was so emotional in the end, i was surprise i was the onde crying.
If you go and rematch all the bosses you can fight culex in his 3d form. Anyway great video choc can’t wait to see more in 2024

i had trouble with the NORMAL Punchinello fight
Fun notes: Getting all the clues in the ship gets you a bonus reward for each one, like more FP or Max Mushrooms. Also, if you immediately hand over the star without any resistance, the real mayor rewards you later with a Flower Box (+5 FP!). Every time you refuse and they send someone back to torture him, your reward decreases. Eventually it becomes a single sarcastic coin.
Also, the Safety Ring protects from instant death attacks, but it turns out, so does the Jynx Belt, too! I suggest equipping both of them plus the Quartz Charm from Culex when doing the post-game rematch fight against Jynx.
I might be wrong but does the super suit do it too? (the reward for the 100 super jumps)
I had it on when fighting jinx in his rematch and I could have sworn Mario didn't die to the insta kill he has and the accessory he had was the attack scarf.
@@BlaizeTheDragon It protects from all status ailments and elemental attacks. I don't think that includes instant death, but I could be wrong. Given all the massive stat gains and the other factors, it's still the best equipment in the game, whether or not it does.

It's actually not that hard to do since every character has their own super weapon that's pretty much on par with the Lazy shell now.

Yaridovich wasn't translated. Yari means 'Spear' in Japanese.
My childhood experience with Mario was with Sunshine & Luigi's Mansion back on Gamecube, but when I saw that this game was getting remade I was almost as excited as those that played it back on 64. I tried REALLY HARD not to watch these videos for spoilers for when I do a playthrough of this Gem of a Remake on my own channel, but just couldn't look away. And now that it's done, a part of me wants to cry that the adventure is over so soon.
another thing abt culex's fight, it still has the original soundtrack, aka the bit music!!! very fun fight overall.
After you beat all the post game bosses, the ending is slightly different, definitely worth seeing.
I beat all three Sensei Jinx battles in SMRPG on my first go. As in no game overs. Only at like level 15-16.
It was NOT easy, my team was kinda dropping like flies, but thanks to those party buffs I brought, Geno's power, and Peach's healing power, I was able to pull through.
Same goes for Culex, barely won on my first go.
The rematch, however....
This is one of my favorite games of all time too. Thank you for the excellent trip down memory lane, can't wait to grab a copy of this masterpiece and play alongside my wife. I would love to see a follow up video covering the post game Super fights and such. Keep up the great work.
Choco you should totally play the shovel knight series if you haven’t already totally recommend all the games are great!
Make a whole video where you try to do nothing but get the secret item jump for successfully doing 100 super jumps on an enemy (look it up if needed).
This game has given me a new appreciation for Geno and for him in smash and maybe the next Mario kart game
Maybe it's because I've become old and jaded, but I feel like some of the magic of the original game is gone, and I can't really explain why. Maybe the change from 2D to 3D leaves less to the imagination, or maybe it's pure nostalgia filter. Oh to be a kid again...
Is definitely the nostalgia, the original looks pretty good for the snes but without a proper 90s tv it looks like the mother of all crust.

Super freaking awesome way to end 2023. I really enjoyed watching the entire journey from start to end. I would like to play this game one day.
It's funny that 99% of this game is entirely Mario stuff, but then there's Culex. He looks like the last boss in a Final Fantasy game, the FF victory theme plays when you beat him, and his theme is a remix of FF4's boss theme!
Edit: Also, the song that plays when he talks is Prelude, which is in every FF game.

The triple move is dependent on your party. Peach in the party is usually an assist triple, with Mallow and Peach fully healing everyone and Geno and Peach creating a barrier for everyone that blocks one attack each.
Choctopus: I don't think Geno Whirl works on bosses.

Im not ashamed to admit i teared up at this ending playing this remake after cherishing my time with the original so many years ago. This remake did the original justice, aside form a few lost translation comedy bits this remake did it justice and then some. And Choc your wrong this is MALLOW'S story!

As someone who has finished the game as well just to see this video, I can't express more emotionally than in words here on how great this game was to experience first hand in my fifth LP with Premieres for my video coming tomorrow, (sorry for plugging.) This was truly a great game to watch and play. I can't wait for more stories like this if Nintendo decides to make any new stories here that are heart felt and charming like this. Now I may not show it in words in my video, but now I can see why Geno was and is everybody's favorite. I genuinely felt sad when I finished the main game.

In the SNES version, yes, she had a martini, but in this version, they corrected it to be a margarita, because that’s her name in Japanese. because, as you’ve noticed, with this remake, they were following the Japanese script more than the international one. Yes, they kept some legendary lines in, (thank God), but for most of it, they wanted to follow the Japanese script.
I hope you do the post game stuff Choc. Especially since they are made to play around Lazy Shell tanking in some form or other
Eh not really I used the lazy shell and found the bosses really easy
@@prosylan6368Sure, the bosses aren’t the hardest things ever but they do all have attacks that bypass defense or hit so hard that you have to perfect guard to survive. Culex for example has an attack that hits for whatever the characters Max HP is minus 1. And you will always take at least 1 point of damage regardless of your defense unless you perfect guard, which isn’t an option for spells.
So while the lazy shell doesn’t become worthless, it can’t carry you nearly as well as it does through the main story
@NepBeard okay I'm going to say for boosters if you attack him with mario and geno and use mallows snowy to kill the snifsters then that attack is useless for the Cake use peaches sleep bomb to keep the Minions asleep become gave me trouble until I released that you can use peaches attack that stops them from using specials and Johnny just equip Mario with the lazy shell armor
@@prosylan6368I appreciate it but like, I already completed the game lol. Which is why I know the lazy shell doesn’t really help for most post-game fights and it’s more about how well you understand the battle system and time blocks/attacks. I wasn’t arguing that the game becomes “hard” at any point, so I apologize for the confusion. I just want to see how Choc handles it all going in blind

What’s funny is I had my triple meter charged before running into the axem rangers and my party at the time had mallow and bowser. All fell but the yellow ranger. He went down in two hits. Funniest moment of the game for me

One thing that was really annoying to find out was when this game revealed that Jinx was just some tiny man. Because of the SNES graphical limitations, I always thought he was some kind of bug. And the idea of a bug knowing karate and being genuinely good at it, I don't know why, but I found that to be kinda awesome. Like with Mantis from Kung-Fu Panda. But no, now we have this remake and without the graphical limitations it turns out that Jinx is just some tiny man. Which, needless to say is LAME compared to what I thought he was all these years!

Bogleech runs a website of the same name, where they cover a lot of biology and monster-related stuff, they're pretty cool and I've known them for well over a decade!
I was just making the observation because they're very passionate about creature design and arthropods in that sort of way, and that seemed like something they'd go on a rant (affectionate) about!

When I beat Wizakoopa in the remake, it was getting late, and I needed to go to sleep. So, what I did was I set up my controller's Turbo, and let Mario rack up the dough while I slept.
Woke up to 9999 coins.
Also, I can confirm that Geno Whirl still works on Exor.
Moleville is definitely the best theme in the game.
All of these bosses don't even compare to the true final boss 100 SUPER JUMPS
And then the true superboss is 100 ultra jumps
