NB Amtrak Train 90 "Palmetto"
Units:
Amtrak #73 P42DC
Comments:
After returning back to base in downtown Ashland after our excursion down to the crossing and our confrontation with L415 on the way back we resettled and filmed the Northbound Palmetto glide through downtown.
@GulfWindProductions They tried silencing the horns on the FEC (Florida East Coast) line here in Jacksonville. It failed miserably.
@2TEG
At all crossings they have to blast four times total; two long blasts, a short blast, and then hold a final long blast through the crossing itself. Towns who are sick of hearing the horn can apply to get "Quiet Zones" where trains may not sound their horns, which is what this town did so the residents wouldn't be disturbed as much. Getting a Quiet Zone requires upgrades to safety systems at crossings because you lose the horn as a warning.
Hope that helped explain,
Davis
@MrCzechers I know I know it kind of sucks but some crews do still blow the horn for railfans! Having been to Florida and riding TriRail I found out the hard way most crossings are silent. I hope someone didn't get too upset that they disliked the vid over that, I can't really control the rules of the railroad.....

Thank you very much! My grandfather was the Executive VP there all the way up until his death and the L&N has always been really close to me.
Thanks for watching!

@GulfWindProductions Screw the town. BLAST THE HORN! lol. Its the same way in West Palm Beach.
Love that intro and the use of the 'classic' L&N logo! One of my favorite fallen flags!
Awesome video!

Thanks Jason!
