Disney spelled out their philosophy with this line, kill the past. They did, literally. Mark Hammill got paid sure, but he didn't agree with the way his character was written. A majority of fans who grew up with that character were turned off too.
Star Wars was doomed the very second disney bought it. It will never return in its current owners' hands, and maybe not even in the next ones'. Dark Forces I & II is Star Wars, MotS can be intriguing if remade, Outcast is okay, and Academy is bearable.
Nah, The Last Jedi was excellent, a deconstruction of the jedi much in the vein of KOTOR 2, treading new ground for the movies. Rise of Skywalker was actually bad, throwing away every good development of TLJ because of people's negative reaction to it, resulting in a movie that was satisfactory to no one. The Luke in the Jedi Outcast series is profoundly uninteresting if you ask me, though I do wish they hadn't axed Kyle katarn
This game has a heart and soul. As you said at the end: it's made by people who love Star Wars and its audience, people who knew how to pay tribute to Kyle Katarn's previous adventures while creating new ones. I love the Expanded Universe and Kyle is one of my favorite characters. Seeing him evolve through all these games is great and feels very rewarding. I'm looking forward to your video about Jedi Academy, which is one of the most important games of my childhood, it meant a lot to me back then. I knew Jedi Outcast after playing Jedi Academy and enjoyed it a lot, but back then Jedi Academy felt to me like the ultimate Jedi fantasy. Great video, as always! A lot of memories unlocked.
When this game came out I took a week of vacation from work and spent the whole week playing it. I was totally blown away. It was my favorite Star Wars game from 2002 to 2018. In 2018 Jedi Fallen Order came out. I also played numerous add-on levels for JO and JA.
I have been absolutely loving your videos. Even more so another person that appreciates the EU. Loved this game while I was growing up, and I appreciate it more now just with how well done the character were in it and Kyle's own growth through the game.
I played this when i was 5 as a demo on an old computer we had. I thought it was amazing and constantly replayed it. Didn’t get to replay it again til HS and then again when it was released on Switch and PS4. Love the game and its very nostalgic as its one of the first Star Wars games i remember playing along with Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron and Demolition. Makes me sad almost to think about how easy life was then
The voice actor that played Luke in these classic Star Wars games sounds just like Mark Hamill, as a kid I thought it was him, why is it so hard for Disney to find a voice actor that can do that good of an impression?
Seeing the Jedi Academy and the new Jedi shows what a MASSIVE disappointment the Sequel Trilogy was. How they messed up so bad when the path so, so clear with the EU.
Seeing this was most people’s intro to Jedi knight, it makes me feel old because I grew up with dark forces 2 Jedi knight and mysteries of the sith on windows 98, truly the good times
The Nar Shadaa level is genuine in hindsight, instead of being let loose after gaining the lightsaber, they make you take a challenge spike to test & build adrenaline for that dope reveal, Imo only tho
Man, when Kyle says to Desann 1:22:30 "Even now, after all this pain, it's not too late, come, join US" after hearing out all of the typical dark side nonsense, that's as hype as Star Wars gets, I don't care how goofy those models look when they talk hahah.
Been waiting for this video, thanks for making it! I actually discovered a Jedi Academy mod last week called Movie Duels (not to be confused with Movie Battles 2) that has an optional add-on that allows you to play Outcast in Academy's engine, with the mod's adjustments to gameplay and graphics and Academy's lighting improvements.
18:27 That's not an IT-O, the three barreled floating round ones are just called "Sentry" droids, but there ARE real IT-Os in a few places! Also the tiny little treaded gun droids that show up in a few places on Doomgiver, mainly in the control room before you get on the Tram don't have any name I can find and no wook article either.
Playing this game as a child was bar nun one of the best experiences I had, back then I didn’t have any video games really but my best friend had all of them you could imagine and playing this alongside him along with playing split screen multiplayer on his original Xboxwill always remain one of my fondest memories. I’m sad. We never got the last game in the Jedi night series, but even ending on Jedi Academy was one of the best things for kid me
The whole Kyber/Kaiburr crytal being the main/sole lightsaber crystal of the Jedi Order, pre-clone wars, is a TCW thing. So when I saw the reference to YJK series, I was positively surprised, that someone else would point it out. Lowbacca, a nephew of Chewbacca, used a crystal from a holo-projector of sorts, if I recall correctly.
Tenel Ka used some flawed crystals she found in a geyser from what I remember. Because of that her lightsaber shorted out during training with Jacen and she lost her arm. Lightsabers was my favorite novel from the YJK series, both because Tenel Ka is my favorite EU character and because it was where she and Jacen finally admitted their feelings for one another. I'm still not happy that Jacen got turned into a Sith Lord after all of the character growth and deepened understanding of the Force he went through. They even retconned Vergere into being a Sith to make the mental gymnastics work. Oh well. Not every author has the same vision I suppose.
Not a big disney guy, but the mando episode directed by the late, Great, Carl Weathers where they raided the cliffside facility with the failed cloning experiments reminded me a LOT of Kejim Base/Outpost.
Great video as always man. And what a game this is. This, Jedi Academy, Battlefront II (2005), KOTOR, and Lego Star Wars TCS are by far my favorite Star Wars video games that I've played. Phenomenal lightsaber combat, expansive force abilities, and decent FPS mechanics aside, I think Jedi Outcast does a great job providing a character arc for Kyle that's so satisfying to watch unfold. Not just in the overall story but in little bits of dialogue. When his father says may the force be with you, Kyle brushes it off by saying "It hasn't been with me so far." However, way later into the game when Kyle and Luke meet on the Doom Giver and Skywalker gives Katarn the same sentiment the Jedi Outcast says "Yeah. You too Luke." When he goes to Nar Shada and the Bar tender calls him a Jedi he says this badass line: "I'm no Jedi. Just a guy with a lightsaber and a few questions." But by the end of the game when given the option to return his saber, he decides to keep it and embrace hi gifts instead of shun them. It's a subtle but brilliant way to show how much Kyle has grown. Now I don't know if you'll ever play this game again for whatever reason, but I'd like to recommend some mods to you that enhance the game and make it far more accessible. I'll link them here. #1. OpenJO: A source port of Jedi Outcast SP that allows for a sweet of new features. This mod allows for Outcast to run better on modern hardware and you can even fixed the widescreen cinematics by putting this code "cg_fovAspectAdjust 1" into the command prompt (you can access this by pressing the tilde key and SHIFT at the same time). Choose whichever download build works for your PC. github.com/JACoders/OpenJK/releases/tag/latest #2. JK2MV: A source port of Jedi Outcast's MP that allows for a sweet of new features such as switching to different builds of the game to play on different servers. jkhub.org/files/file/3858-jk2mv/ NOTE: For setting up the first two, I recommend watching this video from the JKHub TH-cam channel: th-cam.com/video/7KC9Sd6hyVA/w-d-xo.html #3. Expanded Menu: A mod for Jedi Outcast that provides a new menu UI and options in the data pad menu that allow you to fidle with FOV, spawning NPC's and items, and even changing the music of the level. It also provides a level select so you can choose what mission you want at any time. Just drag the files (after you unzip them of course) and drag it into the Gamedata/Base folder of JO. www.moddb.com/mods/jedi-outcast-expanded-menu #4. Widescreen Crosshair Mod: No more stretched crosshairs when playing in 16:9 or 16:10. Just unzip the files, choose which aspect ratio crosshair you want, rename it so it has the letter Z before it (this is for working with the Expanded Menu mod) and drag it into the GameData/Base folder of JO. www.moddb.com/mods/widescreen-crosshair-169 Once again, great retrospective of one of my favorite Star Wars games.
This is some expansive work put together man! Idk if I'll ever run Outcast again but if anyone else sees this it could help them optimize their experience!
On the point of mining saber crystals, I had never considered it before but I do find it a bit odd that the Imperial Remnant would be doing it. In Legends it was possible to fabricate a synthetic saber crystal if no suitable real crystal is at hand. Darth Maul's saber staff used a pair of synthetic crystals as it was by necessity largely a Sith practice in the Republic era due to the Jedi controlling the supply of suitable crystals (though this conflicts with other Legends material which shows that virtually any gem stone would work, as you said) and this was reversed when Luke created a green synthetic crystal for his saber before ROTJ due to the Empire controlling the crystal supply. While creating a synthetic crystal was time consuming as the user needed to infuse the Force into it, the same process applies to genuine crystals, even ones as powerful as the Kaiburr crystal (which was originally an extremely powerful Force amplifying crystal, shards of which were extremely rare but made the best crystals. This was retconned pre Disney with the introduction of Kyber crystals at soms point while the Kaiburr crystal dates back to the very first Legends book). By all logic in Legends, the Remnant should have been using synthetic crystals but I guess the fledling New Republic couldn't lock down supply like its predecessors and novels like I, Jedi showing any gem will work even if it could malfunction in extreme circumstances makes such an idea harder to believe anyway
Well as you said, fabricating a synthetic crystal the way Luke and Maul did required Force infusion, and that takes both time and a Force user. Though they had Desaan and others, the goal was to mass produce thousands of Lightsabers very quickly. Although Luke does also say here that the crystals themselves were being infused with the Force via the Valley so. It's all a bit of a stretch tbh.
I go bouncing channel to channel when it comes to in depth retrospectives on video games White Light, Salt Factory, the works, you name it. You are officially on that list.
I had a challenge finding a mostly compatible PC for this game at its initial release. Likewise the same issues arise with release of Star Wars KOTOR in 2003. Eventually I did find a mostly compatible setup with a laptop. Exterior space cutscenes were a step up. I did miss the live action ones from Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. The in-game interiors were jaw dropping to me way back then. Some references did not connect with me. Valley of the Jedi yes, blue milk yep, the bantha herder yeah, but the monkey lizard not so much. The character models were impressive- most impressive. The weapons were sometimes familiar and other times not so much. Various character cameos were fun. Revisiting familiar named locations was interesting. Certain species were familiar but it would be years before I know more about the species of the bad grammar bartender. I did read several EU during the years surrounding this game’s release. Mainly the Jedi Academy ones featuring the Yavin 4 locations. Of course several characters made up the core cast of the Jedi Academy books carry over to every Star Wars book series until the Legends branding by Disney. Kyle and/or Jan were present in some of the EU novels. Trying to figure out how the games fit with the EU timeline was a challenge. Similarly other Star Wars games from this period also had some foundational elements with the EU.
@@evprince yes one of the longer book series was Star Wars: New Jedi Order. I found one book at the library - the cover art intrigued me. A new alien species forcing old enemies to cooperate to defeat them. Seeing both the original trilogy characters working with the new characters of the EU. my early experience with Dathomir came from Tenel Ka Djo, heir to Hapes Consortium and daughter of two worlds. Her mother was of Dathomir and her fathers was of Hapes. Her first attempt at construction of a lightsaber was a risky combination that broke apart in a duel with Jacen Solo. I remember thinking how many people lose a hand, an arm even because of accidents with a lightsaber. Luke lost a hand in his first duel with Darth Vader. Anakin Skywalker lost part of arm and a hand in a duel with Count Dooku. A later fight between Kenobi and Anakin saw the latter lose more limbs. So we saw how he became more machine than man - twisted from a certain point of view. Anyhow the lightsaber being built from proper and stable parts is vital. As Kenobi once said this weapon is your life. There’s still multiple EU entries I missed over the years. The first however was called Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, which was originally published between the releases of A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Partially written bc of doubts about the first film’s financial success and partially to develop the relationship of the characters following the first film.
I LOVE this game! I think it's the best Star Wars game ever made. I love how it starts off as a 1st person shooter then when you get your force powers you can switch it to 3rd person for lightsaber duels. GREAT video!
I remember back in 2002, I watched my oldest brother playing this game on a custom-built PC. I was fascinated by the gameplay and I bought my first copy in 2003. Played it many times. I bought it on Mac in 2013, and on Steam in 2020. Worth the money every time!
I remember buying this on PC. The computer at home couldn't play it any better than maybe 3 frames per second. I didn't care. Soon after, it released on GameCube and I played it. I loved it. This game was amazing.
I forgot how compelling the story is compared to what they think is star wars now, last decent star wars game I played was star wars Jedi survivor, and I won't accept any star wars with a Disney logo on it, oh how I miss you Jedi Knight 2 it's healing seeing this again, welcome home, thankyou immensely for your analysis on this legendary game
I remember back in the day in the 2000s when I was a teenager in highschool. When I come home from school and finished my homework I would quickly start up Jedi Outcast on my PC. Which was always something I looked forward to playing every night. I lived in a small country town with no Internet. But for a couple years we finally had access to the Internet and I of course took full advantage of it and played Jedi Outcast Multiplayer and that was soo much fun! That was actually the first time I ever played online multiplayer on anything and man was that an amazing first time! We had saber only arenas and free for alls . We even had the option to challenge each other to 1 v 1 EPIC lightsaber duels! There was actually this one player who modded his Lando Avatar into having an AWESOME Double Bladed Lightsaber somehow. Which was so unique and kind of unfair because he was the only player with a double Bladed Lightsaber because in Jedi Outcast Multiplayer everyone only had one Bladed Lightsabers. To this day I still have my PC copy of Jedi Outcast and I would love to find some people to multiplayer it with! Because no offense to the AI controled Avatars but nothing beats playing with and against an actual player online on that game.
I never use glitch cheap moves. Although some of the people I played against did. And it ticked me off. Me and some of the other players who didn't play cheaply would try to ambush those kind of players because we couldn't stand cheap players like that. I also don't like spawn campers either. I always play it fair.
Played that back in the day. Was probably one first shooters I played start to finish and loved it. This one, Force Unleashed 2 and Shadows of the Empire are my big childhood Star Wars games.
I was pretty young when I played this on the Gamecube. Great times with the single player and also with the local multiplayer! An essential gem of my childhood 💎 ❤
1:02:16 The only problem with having a stealth mission like this is that we're playing as Kyle fucking Katarn. You know, the guy that, in the OG canon, basically slaughtered imperial bases like it was nothing? The Star Wars version of Chuck Norris basically? You can't tell me Kyle couldn't handle those guys, and more.
I'll be honest, there are certain things you say are hard that I can't help but think we're dramatically easier when I just permaswitched to 3rd person when I got the lightsaber. I could be totally wrong, but there were just times where I was watching you in 1st person thinking "I can't see the multiaxis fight enough." Just based on my very personal experience. Great video. Watched it twice. Thank you!
There is something special about this game that no other Star Wars game has ever beaten, and that's how dead-on accurate they nailed the feeling of the original trilogy, I've never been more immersed in Star Wars than I am with this game. Honestly this game also reminds me a lot of Max Payne (or Half-Life and other shooters of the era), third person levels with secrets and powers to slow down time, a man on a mission with nothing to lose after losing his woman. I really do miss this era of action games, and the simpler era of Star Wars stories.
I played this and Jedi Knight a looooong time ago, and then again on Steam, right after Rise of Skywalker. I needed a serious palate cleanser so I jumped on the sale instantly. And lemme tell you, it was SUCH a refreshing experience. And THIS definitely felt like a real Jedi experience. Like, i would dare say that all other Jedi simulators owe their gameplay and mechanics to these.
I love your retrospectives and I have enjoyed watching you go through all of them. It's a special thing to see someone go through one of your favourite games with fresh eyes. What I do wonder though, because I watched the whole video through and it wasn't clear... did you realize that there are multiple lightsaber stances with different animations during your first run? Because you were playing in the default (yellow) stance for the whole game while ignoring fast (blue) and strong (red). That's kinda skipping over a huge part of the lightsaber combat mechanícs of the game. At least Jedi Academy is a bit more explicit about that. Looking forward to that video as well!
The multiplayer was my jam. And at the time the open bot fights lightsaber only extreme difficulty was amazing. I still consider it and halo one to have the best multiplayer
Evan, another stellar review and solid walkthrough on how to mod the game as usual. JEDI OUTCAST imho is one of the best game to flesh out the Expanded Universe lore, from characters, locations, ships, etc. It blends itself perfectly in what was at the time, the Star Wars canon. Another series that does that perfectly is definitely the X-Wing series.
20:26 Fun thing, because of loading limitations, the game actually drops you directly in the upper area in the Gamecube version, and there is a wall blocking it off from the lower valley, meaning the turret there CANNOT be used to take out the AT-ST in the lower valley, meaning you have to run past two of the damned things.
Kyle Katarn's final adventure (there's another game after this in Jedi Academy, but that game was about a new character named Jaden with Kyle a supporting player) and hands down his _best._ Funny thing is that across the Dark Forces series, Kyle has a genuinely good character arc, and I can't think of any other Star Wars game from LucasArts' tenure that has something like that.
I can't believe the quality of the content you make and have much less follower than you should have. As other folks have said, I can't wait for you to finish Jedi Academy, also my personal favorite, and that's coming for a person that was wanting to play this game for years but never could for a long time, but when I played Jedi Academy, it really was everything a SW fan could ask for. Keep it strong man, May the Force and the algorithm be with you always ❤✨👌
I'm currently playing the game for the first time, and I think people dislike the early levels because they don't like/are not used to classic PC fps (the Doom/Quake/Powerslave Exhumed type). I really enjoy that sub-genre and I'm having a blast with the first levels of the title ❤
Thanks for the video on this truly epic title! But when many fans thought "what could possibly be better?", the Jedi Academy came out) Man, what an era that was! It would be great if you cover Jedi Academy as well - the best SW FPS ever! And of course, there is KOTOR...oh man, what a journey!
❤ this one is my all-time favorite game! This was my childhood! This was hundreds of hours of fun! I think the best part was the huge modding community for both jka and jko! What's even crazier is the amount of mods still in development for these games! There is so many I wish I still had time to just sit and play them all again! One of the best things to do was go to jk3 files everyday to see what new mods had been added! Such a fun game! It truly is a Gem of a game! You for sure need to check out Galatic legacy mod, Movies Duels, and movie battles! Those mods bring so much content together in different ways, it's way worth a look! Cheers thanks for this video you do such a great job getting awesome lore added in that I had no idea existed! Awesome work can't wait to hear JkAs 😊
I played this game much later , like maybe 2010s. I remember it was more fun to play than others 2010s titles. It's testament to Raven and their skill to make good SW/FPS games
Another great retrospective! It's funny, but I was late to playing this game too. I played DF1 and 2 as a kid, but I didn't play this till several years after it's release, so it was cool to see your perspective on it being shaped very similarly. It's such a solid and fun game, but like you mentioned, I agree that DF2 is a bit more over the top, which is something that I loved about that game. If only the saber combat in DF2 was as smooth as this! Keep up the great content dude!
I was 30 when this came out and I still remember the feeling when I found the tie fighters. I jumped around on them for a while in awe. This is one of several old games that I keep loaded up even on new computers. Games like this, Academy, Max Payne, GTA Vice City and Freespace live on forever. I wonder if he will do Academy?
Feeling super blessed to be here before it's been here for an hour! Love your retrospectives! Thanks for covering a childhood favorite, take care Edit: maybe my time is off ooops
Kinda my first game ever ordered online, definetely in my top 5 games ever played. Cast is amazing here: Jeff Bennett as Kyle (Johhny Bravo), Steve Blum as Galak (Zeb in Rebels), Vanessa Marshal as Jan (Hera in Rebels), Tom Kane (various voices), Guy Siner (amazing as imperial officers), Kath Soucie as Tavion (Minister Tua from Rebels) and one and only Billy Dee.
As someone who's played Jedi Outcast since its release, i must say i find Nar Shadaa streets hilarious. The first five levels make you feel like a badass commando, you become a nigh invincible warrior, and then ... you're shoved into a completely hostile environment lol It's simultaneously wide-open yet claustrophobic, it tests your new abilities to their limits, and you're getting shot at by unblockable blasters you've never seen before. It almost feels like a prank 😂
I lost count of the number of times I played this game as a kid…. So much fun! In replays I just loved stomping through with cheats to max all force powers, access all weapons & the dismemberment mod. While I love the sequel Jedi Academy too, the force power cheat unlock broke the sequel, where you had to level up your force powers at each mission end screen. I was too young to figure out any fixes, so ended up playing this game way more!
A fun fact about the Reborn enemies. Their colors aren't just randomized textures, each Reborn variant has different difficulty levels coded into them. Looking into the game files and using the dev console on the PC version of the game you can spawn Reborn enemies using "npc spawn *npc name*" and their names are as follows: - Blue hoodie variant (reborn_acrobat) which is the basic weakest Reborn that relies solely on acrobatics as a fighting style with minimal saber and force powers combat (a Jedi Padawan in power level) - Orange hoodie variant (reborn) which are more balanced and kinda incorporate a little bit of everything without any expertise on anything (A basic Jedi in power level) - Green hoodie variant (reborn_fencer) which rely more on saber combat than on force powers (A Jedi with expertise in saber combat in power level) - Red hoodie variant (reborn_boss) which rely way more on force powers than saber combat but they can hit hard especially thanks to their red lightsaber "stance" which follows a slow but powerful pattern of attacks compared to the yellow (medium) or blue (light) stances (which you also unlock on Kyle as the game progresses) (they're the closest to a Jedi Knight in power level but they're not quite there yet) (I didn't include the invisible dudes from later on in the game as the armor they wear acts like a pseudo cheat code in terms of enemies) I'm new to the channel and I heard you say the midichlorian part and thought it was worth mentioning just to point out how Raven as developers really paid attention to details when creating this masterpiece. Sorry for the long comment I really don't know how to keep it short and you earned my sub for this video dude, amazing work!
Thing i would love to see if this and jedi acadamy got a proper remake is some sort of adaptive camera for light sabre combat. One that would keep you in first person until any of the third person moves were trggered context wise, maybe even throw in some slow motion just to show off and give a bit of greater control to the player.
I had this on the GameCube, but I got my GameCube at the end of its lifespan and I never had a memory card, so I only ever really played around in the arena rather than doing the campaign. I did a lot of throwing guys into pits with Force Grip.
Great video! When i had this game as a kid, the puzzle segments were often too hard for me so i used cheat codes (i think) to unlock the other levels. I remember playing Anzac 3 (or whatever The demo level is called) as a kid and i didnt realize until years later when replaying that it was a separate demo level lmao
@@evprince Really the question is why did Katarn travel straight to it. I remember in the Thrawn trilogy novels they would do multiple jumps changing heading each time when they were worried about being tracked to a secret location. Why didn't Katarn do this and why did Desann know or even suspect that Katarn would head straight to the valley of the jedi?
@JXEditor Desnnien likely tracks Kyle the same way Vader tracks the faclon in ANH. Place a tracker on the ship. The timing was coincidence of Kyle leaving just as Desenian arriving after getting a fix location.
Such a great game. Just recently I played a VR version of this on the Meta Quest 2 that fans made its called JK XR and its pretty impressive especially with the lightsaber physics
Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight was the first FPS I ever owned. I grew up on that and Mysteries of the Sith. I've actually been replaying that slowly this year (also played the remastered Dark Forces) Then of course I played Jedi Outcast on the GameCube shortly after its console release. Of the Star Wars games I've played I'd argue this still has the best overall story, along with the best core gameplay for multiplayer lightsaber content. Sure, Jedi Survivor has great lightsaber content, but it's geared pretty much exclusively for single-player content. It's still great to replay the game every now and then. Only serious complaint - no Kell Dragons to punch to death. Jedi Academy improves the lightsaber content further, and some of its levels are fantastic, but but Jedi Outcast is the better overall story, has better pacing with its campaign mode, and actually uses its Original Trilogy references and characters smarter and in a more satisfying way. Kyle Katarn - the Chuck Norris of the Star Wars universe who single-handily took down the Dark Trooper project, punched multiple Kell Dragons to death, and destroyed multiple Imperial bases and industrial complexes. And that's before he became a Jedi.
I was a huge player in the multiplayer PC scene. I have so so so many hours of JK2. If GameSpy was still around it was nearly 2-3k. Funny thing is I was in middle school when it came out.
I love this game and the vr Version is amazing. This game was so hard for me as a kid took me forever to get past after you get the lightsaber. I do understand not liking the snipers but for me it taught me to use all my tools and lightsaber isn’t end all weapon. Wish I could play dark forces 2. It’s only one haven’t been able to own.
Dark Forces II and Jedi Outcast are CLASSICS of THE GENRE! THE GOLDEN AGE OF GAMING!
THIS LUKE IS WHAT I WANTED IN THE LAST JEDI.
This game is so good
"I want, I want , I want."
Disney spelled out their philosophy with this line, kill the past. They did, literally. Mark Hammill got paid sure, but he didn't agree with the way his character was written. A majority of fans who grew up with that character were turned off too.
@@Rschr101"Literally"? And didn't Hammill eventually change his opinion regarding Luke's fate? Some fans, not a majority or minority, just some.

The Nar Shadaa level is genuine in hindsight, instead of being let loose after gaining the lightsaber, they make you take a challenge spike to test & build adrenaline for that dope reveal, Imo only tho
You earned yourself a new sub man! Looking forward to Jedi Academy. My personal favorite of the jedi series.
Working on it!
I sadly never got this to work - Kyle is a stormtrooper and T-poses in the first cutscene. Couldnt work out the problem.
Watched my dad play this as a kid, good memories.
BABE WAKE UP, EVAN JUST POSTED
My canon. My nostalgia... _My_ Star Wars.
100% ! Star Wars is for everyone, but it doesn't have to mean the same thing to everyone!
@@ProjectRedfoot Indeed.
The force must flow.
@@bloodysimile4893 Yes, it should. Too bad it had a seizure and went into a coma after Disney gave it the sequel treatment. 💀
@ANIMALSEMEN-lm4jk They stole it from us!
I’m sad. We never got the last game in the Jedi night series, but even ending on Jedi Academy was one of the best things for kid me
This is, what the star wars sequels should have headed. It's still my headcanon despite It's legends now... damn you, Disney!
You know your stuff! He did!
@@davidduncan5897 Man, I hate Denning.
Not a big disney guy, but the mando episode directed by the late, Great, Carl Weathers where they raided the cliffside facility with the failed cloning experiments reminded me a LOT of Kejim Base/Outpost.
How i love Star Wars Jedi Outcast, still have it in CD and Digital. This was my introduction to Kyle Katarn
Choose whichever download build works for your PC.
github.com/JACoders/OpenJK/releases/tag/latest
#2. JK2MV: A source port of Jedi Outcast's MP that allows for a sweet of new features such as switching to different builds of the game to play on different servers.
jkhub.org/files/file/3858-jk2mv/
NOTE: For setting up the first two, I recommend watching this video from the JKHub TH-cam channel:
th-cam.com/video/7KC9Sd6hyVA/w-d-xo.html
#3. Expanded Menu: A mod for Jedi Outcast that provides a new menu UI and options in the data pad menu that allow you to fidle with FOV, spawning NPC's and items, and even changing the music of the level. It also provides a level select so you can choose what mission you want at any time. Just drag the files (after you unzip them of course) and drag it into the Gamedata/Base folder of JO.
www.moddb.com/mods/jedi-outcast-expanded-menu

Once again, great retrospective of one of my favorite Star Wars games.
This is some expansive work put together man! Idk if I'll ever run Outcast again but if anyone else sees this it could help them optimize their experience!
@@evprince Just want new fans to experience it the best way possible on modern hardware man. Can't wait for Academy!
This is the True Sequel of Episode VI
Been waiting for this one, my favorite game in the series.
Blessed
It's a pretty big universe, so it's really easy to get lost in it lol. Even I struggle.
FACTS! 9:34 THE DARK FORCES ASPECT IS FREAKING CLASSIC
Voice actor for Luke Skywalker is damn good. Great job Bob Bergen
My question is, do you use the handful of glitchy cheap moves that can be spammed by the players who know them?
I never use glitch cheap moves. Although some of the people I played against did. And it ticked me off. Me and some of the other players who didn't play cheaply would try to ambush those kind of players because we couldn't stand cheap players like that. I also don't like spawn campers either. I always play it fair.
Played that back in the day. Was probably one first shooters I played start to finish and loved it. This one, Force Unleashed 2 and Shadows of the Empire are my big childhood Star Wars games.
My favorite video game for a very long time. I’ve been dying to see a video of this one. Now waiting for Jedi Academy.
Looking foward to the conclusion amazing videos man seriously been binge watching the dark force series all week amazing speaking of lore much love
Thank you!
Beautiful documentary as always, Evan. Keep up the good work!! Big fan here!
I can’t wait for Jedi academy that ones my favorite of the whole series even with its flaws. Great video keep up the great work!!!
PC was the only way I remember any of us playing it at the time. The console releases came later, IIRC.
Great job weaving old legends lore and real life info on what led to the game’s creation!
Correct, I did not realize until I was already done with the game and into the editing process. Stances will be covered in the JA retrospective!
My personal favorite Star Wars game :) still own my OG xbox copy
It's the most well rounded star wars game it has it all
20:26 Fun thing, because of loading limitations, the game actually drops you directly in the upper area in the Gamecube version, and there is a wall blocking it off from the lower valley, meaning the turret there CANNOT be used to take out the AT-ST in the lower valley, meaning you have to run past two of the damned things.
Kyle Katarn's final adventure (there's another game after this in Jedi Academy, but that game was about a new character named Jaden with Kyle a supporting player) and hands down his _best._
Funny thing is that across the Dark Forces series, Kyle has a genuinely good character arc, and I can't think of any other Star Wars game from LucasArts' tenure that has something like that.
Wow, thank you!

Oh SHIT Big Daddy DOOM Man coming in with another banger!
Jedi Academy retrospective will be out in April!
Kind of echoing some of your thoughts, I think the pre-jedi levels are the most memorable and possibly my favorites.
Such a good game I got it when it came out blew my little mind
I loved it and I recently played it in VR, alongside Jedi Academy.
Some of the best VR experiences I had!
Amazing video, Kyle Katarn is one of the best Star Wars characters ever.
Feeling super blessed to be here before it's been here for an hour! Love your retrospectives! Thanks for covering a childhood favorite, take care

Been waiting for this one. Hype is unreal
Oh man, I need this game. Awesome retrospective as usual!!
Jedi Outcast met the Star Wars experience and expectations. I don't think the other SW games came close.
Tie Fighter?
Haven't played that. @@demonface2712
i didn’t even recognize your voice, wow! good job on all the videos and views. miss you a bunch ❤
A fun fact about the Reborn enemies. Their colors aren't just randomized textures, each Reborn variant has different difficulty levels coded into them. Looking into the game files and using the dev console on the PC version of the game you can spawn Reborn enemies using "npc spawn *npc name*" and their names are as follows:
- Blue hoodie variant (reborn_acrobat) which is the basic weakest Reborn that relies solely on acrobatics as a fighting style with minimal saber and force powers combat (a Jedi Padawan in power level)
- Orange hoodie variant (reborn) which are more balanced and kinda incorporate a little bit of everything without any expertise on anything (A basic Jedi in power level)
- Green hoodie variant (reborn_fencer) which rely more on saber combat than on force powers (A Jedi with expertise in saber combat in power level)
- Red hoodie variant (reborn_boss) which rely way more on force powers than saber combat but they can hit hard especially thanks to their red lightsaber "stance" which follows a slow but powerful pattern of attacks compared to the yellow (medium) or blue (light) stances (which you also unlock on Kyle as the game progresses) (they're the closest to a Jedi Knight in power level but they're not quite there yet) (I didn't include the invisible dudes from later on in the game as the armor they wear acts like a pseudo cheat code in terms of enemies)
I'm new to the channel and I heard you say the midichlorian part and thought it was worth mentioning just to point out how Raven as developers really paid attention to details when creating this masterpiece.
This was awesome. All i can say. Thank you
I never thought I would ever watch Kyle Katarn with some MGS music
I had this on the GameCube, but I got my GameCube at the end of its lifespan and I never had a memory card, so I only ever really played around in the arena rather than doing the campaign.
I did a lot of throwing guys into pits with Force Grip.
Great video! When i had this game as a kid, the puzzle segments were often too hard for me so i used cheat codes (i think) to unlock the other levels. I remember playing Anzac 3 (or whatever The demo level is called) as a kid and i didnt realize until years later when replaying that it was a separate demo level lmao
If we are being honest, Force Unleashed 1 and 2 could get real brutal with its combat.
Could you imagine full power Kyle and Starkiller teaming up? They would be literally unstoppable.
YOU DID IT! THANK YOU! 😭😭😭
Wait, so did Kyle travel to the valley of the Jedi at sub lightspeed? How did Desaan track him?
Kyle went there straight after he lost the fight to Desaan and Desaan followed him there.
@@RoboticPope reaction in a fit of rage and pain from thinning he lost Jan.
@@evprince so was Ruusan near enough that he didn’t need to jump to lightspeed?
@JXEditor Desnnien likely tracks Kyle the same way Vader tracks the faclon in ANH. Place a tracker on the ship.
The timing was coincidence of Kyle leaving just as Desenian arriving after getting a fix location.
Another solid video! Hoping for a Jedi Academy video to top it off and possibly Rogue Squadron 2 & 3…..
Such a great game. Just recently I played a VR version of this on the Meta Quest 2 that fans made its called JK XR and its pretty impressive especially with the lightsaber physics
I love this game!
Sithspit, some new Evan Prince kino is here
I was a huge player in the multiplayer PC scene. I have so so so many hours of JK2. If GameSpy was still around it was nearly 2-3k. Funny thing is I was in middle school when it came out.
probably in the retarded patched versions, kisses
You didn't touch on the Lightsaber styles.....
Otherwise EXCELLENT Review!! JKII still holds up hard!
I think that the cortosis was specifically used for the shadow trooper armor, which is why they are so difficult to kill.
Love how luke rocks the black
I love this game and the vr Version is amazing. This game was so hard for me as a kid took me forever to get past after you get the lightsaber. I do understand not liking the snipers but for me it taught me to use all my tools and lightsaber isn’t end all weapon. Wish I could play dark forces 2. It’s only one haven’t been able to own.
another banger!
