    Hey Steve that's soft solder you used there ? if so It can be used for r410a ?

    • @chrisbeck8182
      @chrisbeck8182 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stay-Brite is technically “solder” but it’s much stronger than the old 50/50 plumbing solder and still better than the lead free stuff due to the silver content. It makes a joint as strong as braze because it doesn’t anneal the copper. Take half-hard copper and braze it and you end up with dead soft. You may not want to solder hot gas discharge lines but for a condensing unit it’s no issue. Plus soldering is easier to get a leak free joint in my opinion and less likely to heat damage other components or set the house on fire, lol.

    • @potatolew4495
      @potatolew4495 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is stay Brite 8, you will not find this in your local big box store. You must also use their Flux that has super low almost non existent acid content. Stay Brite 8 and stay clean without the matched pair you are pissing in the wind.

    • @ccthepope
      @ccthepope 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Go back and find the video from Steve where he used Stay_Brite 8 on his own house so I figure if he used it on his own AC must be good.

    I have been running into the (SAME ISSUE) on the suction valve on the Ruud units.. Why i dunno...
    Also, start putting a "O-RING" in ya caps, the suction valves i found will leak on certain ones for some reason.. I turned it into Ruud for techs to look at and their engineers.. I know for a fact i never overheated the valves because i fill mine with water and wrap them with soaking wet rags, if the water doesn't even get hot enough to oil 212*, you know the seal is good. But still, even good they will leak after a 1yr or so.. Have several that has and a "O-RING" fixes it.. Suction 95% of the time..
    Just a FYI bro. One Master HVAC guy to another. I (LOVE) the RHEEM/RUUD brand.. Best their is!! But (EVERY UNIT) and MFG has issues sooner or later, and i consider a simple valve a "NON ISSUE".. Now Goodmans, those are "ISSUES".. BIG TIME! 8MM Condensers popping/leaking, accumulator studs leaking out killing compressors, evap aluminum coils blowing, just bad. BAD, BAD, BAD....
    I "USED TO" think Goodman/Amana was okay, but not anymore. I am a RHEEM/RUUD man for (LIFE)!

    • @purplegoose7907
      @purplegoose7907 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Couldn't agree more. Been in HVAC 20 years and still do some annual maintenance on my first Rheem units from back around 2000.
      The same thing that made them good then is what makes them good now...simplicity.
      Even some dry ship rebrands up my way (Thermal Zone, etc.) with R22, Copeland scroll, ADP coil...those units are reliable for my customers and were cheap and basic 10-15 years ago. Still going.

    • @ICONBADGTA
      @ICONBADGTA 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@purplegoose7907 RHEEM/RUUD aretop of the line because they are engineered good.
      Think about it..
      They stick with (TRIED AND TRUE) methods of heat gain/loss with 3/8 single row coils.. This makes repair easy and keeping the 3/8 makes them robust. Goodman is learning the (HARD WAY) that when you go smaller, and thinner, you weaken the tubing to the point it cannot handle the 410-A pressures.
      It is the (SAME REASON) those "MICRO CHANNEL" coils are (GARBAGE)!! They are too thin and cannot handle higher pressures of newer type Azeotropes.
      Now Goodman is in a kick to start pushing out units with R-125, which has (HIGHER) pressures than 410-A in ways.. I (PITY) their shareholders.
      It's why they (WHORE) themselves out to anyone who will buy it. I tried to sell Amana stuff, damn distributors are pricks, i pity the good ones because just about every Amana distributor i dealt with has been dumbass pricks that couldn't close an umbrella.. So when the whole ACCUMULATOR LEAK FIASCO STUD" happened, and my customer got left out in the cold with just a compressor swap and not a unit like they started because of it later, that did me in right there!!
      Makes your own company look like shit after you tell people how great it is, then it does that shit.
      The RHEEM/RUUD brand in the old style square mint green types lasted 30yr+ on (AVERAGE)!! The new re-design is nice and they took the tried and true of old and brought it into the 21st century!!
      Now have or has "RHEEM/RUUD" had issues?!? Sure.. They are a company who tries to provide profits for their shareholders just like any other "FOR PROFIT" type company would.. If they can source cheaper equally quality parts from sub contractors, they will and should..
      I mentioned earlier and in many places especially with my HVAC Brothers/sister out there about the leaking service valves under the caps i have encountered with a simple "O-RING" will fix.. I reported it to Rheem/Ruud and they was thankful to me for doing so taking all information, my fix, etc down along with the suggestions i had to make their products better.. Like i mentioned a while back that TXV's should bolt on especially when the distributor is 1" away from it. They have changed it that way, and i have noticed they are making changes to their service valves as well other things also.
      They care about their contractors, and i have spoken with them many time when i come across an issue or problem.. Or if i see something i think needs improved etc. They appreciate it. And that is why i love them..
      I wouldn't leave my current dealers EVER!! They are good as gold to me, and have been since day 1...
      People will learn, some the hard way.. I hate that. I do.. But the GOODMAN/AMANA train has hit a bad set of rails and if not careful, will de-rail unless corrections are made no doubt.
      Adam

      @@dmurphhh I am sure that you are serious. I am in Central VA and have no experience in your area. But i did a search for you and found a company in Radford with five stars and 35 years in business. New River Heating and Air. I would start there. I hope this helps.

      @@craigharding475 I appreciate the info buddy. I actually had a family member that worked for them years ago but he got out of the HVAC business. He looks out for me on the simple repairs but obviously isn’t equipped for a full replacement

      @@dmurphhh That is even better. You can get some inside info. from your friend about if HE would recommend them. I used a big HVAC company this spring, rated 5 stars. I was charged $600 for a repair that failed one month later on my small oil furnace. I plan to call another contractor: a small out-of-town, company this Fall. They specialize in my type of set-up. 5-stars does not necessarily mean 5-stars for every customer. I saw another 5-star co. in your area, but they are listed as a "home improvement" firm (that does HVAC as well). Steve Lav has said that he has a limited range of service area. He ain`t commin` to VA.

      Not a good idea. The compressor operates at different pressures, and would also need a different metering device (TXV or piston)

    That contactor had 3 poles on it making this a 3 phase system. When you have 3 phase commercial power, powering a 3 phase compressor, you don't need a capacitor for the compressor. This is why there was only a cap for the fan.
