It was as easy as you showed it. You do show using a rachet socket wrench to loosen the rotor screw. I used the rachet wrench when I tighened the screw back on with the new rotor and whooops! I didn't realize how much torque I was applying with the long handle and popped the head off the screw! Just warning everybody to be careful, when the screw stops it is tight enough when using a ratchet. It turned out well, because the shaft is hollow I could back out the screw piece from inside. Thnx!
I agree, cable placement is very important. Fortunately, if you look closely at video, both the cables and distributor cap are numbered. You just have to remember where # 1 goes.
How do you know which wire goes to where on the distributor cap? I think I remember my car backfiring because the wires were put on wrong. Perhaps numbering them before you pull them will help?
Great video, but you might wanna remind people to separate the cables when taking them out so they dont get the cables mixed up when putting the cables back in.
Great video. Is there no danger of changing the ignition timing while changing the rotor and cap? I'm afraid I'll screw up ignition timing and car won't run, or will damage itself after parts replacement. Your videos are really helping me and my Altima.
My girlfriend just paid $380 bucks to have this done at a garage, same year altima. Same year even. 6 minutes and one hand.lol It was causing idling issues, rpms would kinda float and you could hear them raising and falling. I can turn a wrench but can't diagnose a problem.lol
Wow! She could have bought something nice with that money. I am not an expert but if I can be of any assitance in the future let me know. Thanks for looking!
How did you manage to get the rotor shaft and retaining screw positioned in the exact 12:00 position in order to remove and replace the rotor? I would imagine that most of the time after removing the cap the retaining screw on the shaft would be at the bottom or off to either side making viewing or replacement somewhat unmanageable. Did you bump the ignition by using the key at your steering wheel in order to get the retaining screw at the 12:00 or how did you do that?
it is a 10 sent seal to manufacture because i researched this extensively but nissan will not sell you this seal. the cap at least shoud have a new rubber seal but you can not get a seal anywhere coast to coast
I hope you're still around. I'm trying to perform this, but for some reason, my rotor is seized. I removed the screw and its not giving at all. You're just slid right off, I'm tugging at mine and its not going anywhere. I think I shifted the rotor a little as the timing is off now that everything is put back on. How @#$%-ed am I now? How can I remove the stuck rotor?
All I want to see is what the plug wire order is on the distributor as they are connected. You show everything else but....you show the proper rotation of the screwdriver and screw.....well done....but you cant show the order of plugs and wires

cool vid, awesome explanation by the narrator and handling everything with 1 hand partially blind too. Props!
This was very helpful being a woman. They charge you an arm and a leg to work on your car. Thanks

I literally shot the pizza out of my mouth after reading your comment. My kids were rolling, lol.

Thanks Roluardo. After watching this, I had to do it myself. Turned out great. I have a 1999.
Guess what I'm about to go do...great vid. Thanks.
curious of the distributor wire numbers starting top left , clock wise, I've got 3 1 2 4, forums all say different

Looking at the parts for that year, I would think it should be very similar.
Good Luck!
you have to buy a complete distributor to get the rubber seal that goes between the cap and the dist.
Great video I have the same car but 2000. I just learned my distributor cap was cracked yesterday.
ok sure! The Altima seems to be a pretty reliable car. Thanks!
To adjust the timing you loosen distributor bolts and turn it. I suppose timing should not be affected if you do not do this.
Wow! She could have bought something nice with that money. I am not an expert but if I can be of any assitance in the future let me know.

what about nissan altima gxe 96? will this video apply? because i can't find anyone doing videos on altima gxe 96 ignition timing

You never showed how you unloosened that 3rd screw on the bottom of the distributor cap. Is it a bear to get to? Special driver?
Good video actually.
Great video .
Is the coil inside the distributor?
how do you sit wies back on cap
