There's a lot of misinformation in this. A glacier is formed over many years, with the snow compacting over time. A single cold season's snow or ice melting in the summer is not a glacier retreating and does not leave the same kind of formation. And the retreating of a glacier refers to it getting smaller, so melting more then it grows through new snowfall, not to the forward movement that it has always has, even when it is not retreating.
