Hey man, thanks for this helpful video. Just one more extra step I would like to add, once upgraded to sonoma, make sure to change the macOS version from 10.15 to 14 in settings > options > general. Otherwise you would have problem shutting down or restarting VM as it probably sends wrong calls for these operations. and also you would feel the responsiveness gets better. Again, thanks 👍

I think this is related to a change since VMware Workstation where it will try to use Hyper-V under the hood to do the virtualization if that is enabled on your Windows install. If your CPU is too old to support that you will probably get that message. You can disable Hyper-V in windows as follows: 1) Open a command prompt as Administrator 2) Run: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off 3) Reboot your Windows host To re-enable it, just repeat the same but use the following instead: bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto
As explained in the video, Apple changed the format in which you can download newer OS-images (releases after Catalina) which makes it hard (or even impossible) to make bootable/usable from a Windows machine. The same problem exists to create bootable media (like a USB drive for example) to do a clean install on a real/physical Mac. Honestly I don't understand why Apple doesn't release a tool to create a bootable USB drive for macOS installation for Windows. But Microsoft doesn't make it easy the other way around either.
