This my only show in 99 (besides cypress) and the entire thing is so evilphish funk insanity! Froze my ass off riding in the back of a pickup back to Arkadelphia... 😊 Worth every second!
Everyone needs to go listen to this again when you’re perfectly stoned Trey had more going on with the build up. BEST LOOP JAM EVER!!!!!!!!!I I was front and center
That night will forever be imprinted into my memory!! The first time I ate a sugar cube saturated with three drops of pristine LSD. The second time I had the pleasure of witnessing a Phish show in person. And the moment when I met four individuals who instantly became longtime, close friends. The first time I had the opportunity to go on a life changing adventure with assistance from a piece of a peyote cactus. I’m so grateful to you for sharing this video with us.
I got floor seats and being on the floor at the pyramid is like seeing them in a club. me and my buddy walked right up to front of the stage. I had only been seeing them since 97 so I only knew hockey arenas and huge outdoor venues. this was a great intimate experience. I can hardly remember anything but this 2001 (I remember a cities towards end of 2nd set) and was blown away then and I listen to it from time to time and it's always surprises me with renewed freshness and new surprises
I drove once a good 2 hours after peaking and though I'd be fine. about an hour into the drive something went off and I snapped back into visuals. I pulled off the side of the road within 5 minutes and rode that shit out. NEVER drive after tripping. Its worse than alcohol or texting. just dont do it.
Skipped a lot of 99 after getting burnt after with 98. Went to Star Lake and tripped balls after splitting a 5 strip with a friend. That really reinvigorated me and my love for Phish. So that same friend and I drove down to Memphis from Cincinnati area. Rolled at this show Then that December saw the 2 Cincy shows and rolled each night. Then Big Cypress and rolled during every set down there. Would have liked to dose at Big Cypress. It just got to the point in 1999 where pressies and molly were so much easier to find than were doses
made the west coast shows this tour but had to miss the SE shows so i could be cool and stay in school. got my hands on a tape of this show shortly after it happened. listened to it DAILY
the BEST 2001 ever by Phish. I can remember most if not all of the top section of the arena was empty. This whole show was fuckin great. never gets old. I was on the rail for this night
The pyramid wasn't named after a corporation in 99 it was just called the Memphis Pyramid like all the other arenas. They had original names with no corporate tag, like the Oakland Coliseum.
Night after Bham (good place to get some thinking done!) funk fest with Robert Palmer and Meters etc then of course (Trey’s birthday... anyone remember the contest? Key of D folks) the Pyramid sports a friggin Cities! Just a stellar dare I say immaculate run, so... wow... the remain in lite Halloween’96 > Ghost funk vibe spooky and deep >> thru Hartford Murfreesboro > the Magic City sneakin Sally funkfest nite before this pyramid treys rager bday pardee y’all was smokin hot
Steve O If you watch most 3.0 videos, the crowds behind the band.... nobody is dancing. They're all just kind of standing there. Now, put on the video of the 12/7/99 Halley's Comet, and that crowd is getting THE FUCK down. Granted..... it was the 12/7/99 Halley's that they were getting to witness being made. Most of all 3.0 material pales in comparison to that, but still....
Gumbo72203 I understand, but I went to oak mountain last summer the crowd was dancing, didn't see a single person not dancing, and the energy was great.
Also that was the show they had the, “WIN A DATE WITH FISHMAN” CONTEST!!! The trivia question’s answer was. The key of D. And I AM not bullshitting the people sitting next to us were friends with the chick that won it. And they were talking to all of saying their friend probably was going to win it! True story pholks!
I'm pretty sure they knew the acoustics sucked so they made this angry so that all the sounds would continuously bounce off the walls of the Mid. Ive never seen trey try to trace his foot pedals wahs so much off all the walls. I think he didn't look down once the whole show. Def a 2001 to remember but not the greatest. I was GA Mike's side all night, just jammin away. Loved the rendezvous reference in cities. Was begging for pyite all night...
I wonder what happened to this building {it's a giant store now) 1995, 1999 the only 2 times I was at this venue... I was selling goo balls down by the River asking "do you smell home cooking" which prompted several Cities conversations throughout the day. Paul did a good Job with this building's sound bringing the soud up way up 👆 to PAR. It was a tough place to get a clean sound. CK5 I'm sure was terrific as always, I honestly can't remember, not a chance?
This sounds like a soundboard recording. Can anyone help a fellow traveler to the rest of the show soundboard as well? I’ve seen some epic shows and this is probably my all around favorite, atmosphere, circumstance and set list. Please help me party like it’s 9/29/99
Taylor Orr hell yeah I forgot about that contest. I submitted an answer that they had played all the song in different keys than how they are normally performed (wasn't a musician then) I can't remember off the top of my head that first set..what key was it...A?

I love the old stuff, but you guys are WAY WAY too into Phish 1.0. 2001 is one of the most improved songs in 3.0... plus they have good sound and video much of the time.
I agree that there are many 1.0 songs that have improved in 3.0 (Carini and Sand immediately spring to mind), but I can’t agree on this one. I’ll grant that 3.0 2001s aren’t the paint by numbers uninspired renditions like all the 3.0 Bowies and most of the Antelopes, but late ‘96-‘00 is peak period for 2001
@@tombadil64 it’s more dynamic in 3.0, but sure, if you just want Trey doing his thing over top of an unchanging Mike bassline, ‘99 has some heaters, no doubt. Cypress is an absolute killer
@@Luckdragon57 Yes, that's exactly what I want. I like the space and musical atmosphere they were creating in 99 and sand that year was the perfect culmination of that to me. Deep space funk to just exist in and explore. Definitely my kind of jam. Although I can understand why one would prefer the 3.0 jams. That's the great thing about phish, lot's to choose from from every corner of their catalogue.

They haven't either lol
I think this is the best 2001 period
this is pure form of showing that less is more for Phish - slow and steady wins the race!
Holy shit, that reverse delay was perfect for this jam.
Totally. Such sick tone all over.
The meaning in my thought respecting above my head the joy in sound brings in justice talents found just outside myself.
