  • A while ago, James and Mark thought it would be a good idea to enter the Brighton marathon, it's about time they should start training! James has run a 2:40 before at Challenge Roth... after a 180km bike. Since then though, he's retired from pro triathlon and had plenty of life events that have stopped him from training so he's aiming to work back up to his personal PB. Aaaand Marks attempting the same!

    Join Mark and James for this series as they work their way through this short training plan to try to accomplish a 2:30 or better time for the Brighton marathon. With less than 2 months to go, it's going to be intense!

Quick question, how would you change the training plan based on the marathon course? For example, if the course is very hilly, would you suggest completing certain workouts on a treadmill / incline or adding in hill repetitions?

    Hey idk if you ever read these comments, but here goes:
    1) you need more long runs with chunks at or FASTER than MP
    2) you need more volume at lactate threshold pace (half marathon pace)
    3) 10k pace doesn’t do anything for you. Biomechanically it is similar to half marathon pace, but because it is waaay past the lactate threshold it is too tiring to get a lot of volume at this pace

      All your points are valid and appreciate the input. The posted program is a 'skeleton structure' of what we're actually doing, trying to make it relevant to as many people as possible because, as you'll know, no two people should be on identical programs. We hope ours takes into account our personal strengths and limiters. But we'll probably only know after the race...

    Kudos for the good vid. Been watching gtn for two years now, i have a lot to thankyou for. I have a question about the program yog guys have given, 10k as 10x20s at MP 40s RJ. Does this mean you do a 10k run then do the intervals with 40s RJ inbetween. Thanks from Mallorca 👊🏻👍👍🏻

    • @TopComment213

    Can somebody explain how does this work: 3x(800m at MP, 90s rec/ 2km at MP with 2 min rec)? Is it you run 800m then rest, then run 2 km and rest. And then repeat it 3 times? Or you run 3 times 800m and then add a single 2km on top?

    The goal seems a bit too ambitious with respect to the volume of training presented in the plan. I guess it will all depend on the level of the runner entering the plan. My point is that I doubt you go from 2:40 to 2:30 with this plan. You would need more mileage than presented here. But again, we’ll see 🙂

    • @fiforjan94
      @fiforjan94 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      of course you could be right, but when james ran his 2:40 in his IM, i am pretty sure he could have run 2:30 as a standalone Marathon(on full energy stores). so he doesn't need to go from 2:40 to 2:30 but rather just execute what his body his body is able to. obviously he needs to get economic on this new, faster pace. and as he is retired, he probably is not as fit as he was.

      there should not be a point in running a 15km or 22km in training for marathon. If you are comfy in the pace for 15km and you can accelerate or keep the distance further, you just have the endurance build in without damaging the body enterily. Still there is a space for additional sports and activities to embrace the body for marathon on asphalt.
