props to the sound engineer for keeping the album's aesthetics
But where is his voice?
real
@@DubsMood Yeah vocals are way too far back. I think they're definitely built to SIT in the mix and not be front and center like most modern pop but the live sound makes it sit too far back to the point where you are kind of straining to hear anything he says.
Idk this sounds pretty different from the studio version
@@nevadanate4957 that may have something to do with the fact that it's live. 😂 Lol sorry for the sass. I just really like this version
Can't believe this dude is on Jimmy Kimmel. Truly a special album.
It's not too surprising considering the mega stars he's worked with. He produced the kids are growing up by Kid Laroi recently too
He was on jimmy Fallon 2 years ago.
Dijon was on Fallon. This is mikes solo debut
@@mcburneyb okay, but on jimmy Fallon he was playing a song NAMED AFTER HIM, that he COWROTE, and SANG bgv for. That's just as special. We all can see that this is his solo debut, but the initial comment doesn't mention whether it's a solo debut or not. Just letting the op know that he was on jimmy Fallon just in case he missed it.
@@RaeUltra but he was there with dijon, this is something he accomplished due to his own career
It‘s crazy how the sounds on this album are so organic and at some points irreproducible, that every single performance will probably sound totally different
lol like when he starts vacuuming? I think he’s trolling us
that's the goal baby!!!!
And thats how you tell the music is played with expression, we never feel the same way either:)
it’s intentional. There are lives where it sounds the same
It's definitely reproducible, he's often running a very simple pedal board. The main thing that accomplishes the sound is running the guitar through an old 4-track mixer. I love his sound but there isn't some otherworldly 'organic' source - just some really smart equipment choices! :)
The world is looking at a superstar in the making
this is who i'll be paying $500 to go see when hes in his 60s
I don’t understand how live can be 10x better than the studio. That little scream he does in the second chorus might be the coolest thing I’ve ever heard.
Trueee broo
If you can’t figure out why live *can be* better…
I suggest you listen to less studio production and see more kinds of musicians perform live.
Look up Deep Purple Made in Japan
I love this video!
Two Names Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton. Symphony version of Layla and Peter’s debut masterpieces. Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy used to do some cool stuff live.
But agreed I want this version with the outro on Streaming Platforms
Album of the year
Decade*
AGREED
amen brother
Hands down
easily
He is gonna be massive. Fr so privileged to be here early on
i dont wanna brag, but i wanna brag: i know him since 2021 :D
Cringe
2016 babyyy 😊
he's playing kimmel this isn't "early on" lol
lol bros been around for a minute
I've had this album on repeat for a month. I haven't felt this type of immediate love and adoration for an artist since Bon Iver release, "For Emma, Forever Ago".
Bon Jovi slaps though
@@stalwartzero7001 true story
Happy you feel this way, Mkgee was actually on tour with bon over when Dijon was touring with them, he’s part of the band
There is a serious sonic parallel to Bon Iver. Yeah. Thank you yes
same but w blond
Flavors of Prince, Genesis and Sting. Very nostalgic sound, while still remaining incredibly fresh and novel. This guy is a legend in the making.
That was my vibe. Something about it sounds old, but its current. I cant put my finger on it. Either way its pretty great.
His voice reminds me at times of Peter Cetera.
Miguel
I love his aesthetics of a garden caretaker on a rainy afternoon at the farm
Someone else called it “sexy homeless man”
Kurt Cobain vibes fr💅
“gas station hot”
reminds me of that one dude in stardew valley tbh
…you mean a gardener? Hahaha garden caretaker is a first I’ve heard, I need to put that on my resumé
Met this guy outside of a Dijon show a few years ago
I’m in love with every sound that comes out of his imagination
This version needs to be on spotify
Every live version he’s made is a little different and their all dope
I second that.
Was rlly hoping someone had put this on Spotify already
he deserves every ounce of love and support so i'm stoked to see him on kimmel
top 10 most nonchalant guys ever. he does not look fazed he’s on live television
He's the batman of music
He knows no-one is watching television as it's 2024 not 1984
The man’s aura is unearthly. He’s just one with the slab of wood slung around his shoulders
mk.gee, dijon, matt champion, and their sound of music at large is so so heavily inspiring. they are a new movement. i can't get enough of it
This man is an absolute gem of a find.
one of the best performances on Jimmy Kimmel
Welcome back 80's new wave, we've missed you...
Hope you stay for a while.
New wave? This is more like 80’s Michael Bolton if he tried too hard to be experimental.
@@0228christianthere's elements of it...
I guess your description fits better, but it's kinda hard to categorize the 80's, they were strange to say the least (in the best way possible).
This does remind me of Stings solo work a lot.
@@0228christian laughs in Pat Metheny Group
More like Peter Cetera with 80s synth fusion pop mixed in.
@@HootHinge Exactly)
the guitar solo is the absolute cleanest glassiest guitar sound i've ever heard. sounds like an old rockman headphone amp from back in the day.
Ma boi Tom Scholz of Boston invented those things. That's what got me playing guitar, trying to figure out that tone. Glad to be here now, sorry that was random, I was excited to see a mention of Boston, my original favorite band!✌️
You predicted the name of his latest single
@@papabibo5 haha so random. guitar nerd talk
Found out about Mk.gee literally 2 days ago and so awesome to see him coming up. Such a cool vibe.
his music will continue to move mountains in music to come.
That performance transported me to some mystical, magical place I've never been to before. Wow!
haven't like an artist for probably 6 years now, can't stop listening to mk.gee
the best
The sax and the guitar bring back the fondest memories of Joni with Wayne Shorter. No matter the times, someone out there is always making great music. To me, at least, that is a testament to our way of life. Thank you.
I was getting Hejira vibes off the sax/guitar
It’s official. Dude needs to release a live album. This is insane
that scream is gorgeous idk what to sayyy
Been following since 2020 on spotify, i feel like a proud dad.
Cringe
@@okcool2531 whats cringe is you taking the time to reply to this comment

ME TOO
The dude inventing new music... Madness. Congrats Mk.gee. love the album.
Nah
Not inventing new music. Bon Iver meets Phil Collins. That’s not to say he doesn’t make amazing music, he really does, and his guitar tone and playing are great.
inventing lol
@@zechs5079 He is def creating new sounds that guitars haven't made before. Now, is that inventing or experimenting? Or both? Who cares. People are too quick to hold new artists back and try to compare 'similar sounds' to older artists. At the end of the day, music today is alive because of Mk.gee
the Sting of 2024
My guy made it ! Love me some Mk.gee and I love this album so much, the atmosphere of his music is literal magic.. him and Dijon are the coolest
been a fan for years and it’s so surreal to see how far he’s come, very very deserved. truly feels like mk.gee is a breath of fresh air in the current music scene and that’s he’s cultivating a sound totally his own. super proud of him and i can only hope he gains more recognition.
@@BeastCars18 i know all these people… who’s making music like this in recent years tho. either way mike doesn’t shy away from who his influences are and i acknowledge them as a music fan as well
@@angel-dx1mv i wish u the best in life, i love u
Feels raw and real. Love this
Whatever it is he’s forcing that guitar to do -I’m into it.
Gentle distorted vibes. Love it man love it.
It’s crazy because the amount of musicianship in this video is so real, even down to when they intensified and got calm. There was no count for that. That was all musical feeling when everyone’s on one accord that is super dope to see.🔥
Insane how much better this version is than the album cut
It’s a different vibe fs
Tiny desk clearly need these guys...
Seeing how far this dude has come from the days of a "Museum of Contradiction" and earlier singles is truly a privilege. I knew then and now the whole world knows that he is truly special.
We need this version on streaming platforms NOW
BEGGING!!!!!
❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️
Love this. Truly something different. Mystical to me. The ending truly emotional. Thanks for having him🙏
I cannot for the life of me get over this performance, I need more Mk.gee... i feel like we've barely scratched the surface of this genius
What a gem. And I thought modern music was dead.. Thank you for changing my mind.
100 percent
we are not fully ready for the impact this album is going to have on music.
that's what i'm saying!
I am
Oh please lol
😂
everything you're hearing here was pioneered almost a decade ago lmao both the self titled bon iver album and 22 a million sound exactly like this
Dude on clarinet slays. One of the better late night performances ever probably
That's a soprano sax as a heads up
@@JacobHalfman - its Sam Gendel on sax, right? Dude has worked with Blake Mills & Joachim Cooder previously.
It was squidward, dawg.
Pretty good performance, that recent Kim Gordon one was better
yeah sam gendel is top tier - so glad to see these two collaborating
I'm so obssessed with his music, his vibe, musicianship, everything
*THIS IS THE BEST SONG I EVER HEARD*
*IM NOT JOKING*
I agree 😅
You need to get out more....
@@sx20Ramarmusic hits us all differently, dude 😊 it happens to be one of my favorites as well, and I raised myself on everything from Brian Eno to Jeff Buckley to Joni Mitchell
Love how he backs out of the light at the end into the darkness
so emotional. there are not many artist out there that speaks directly with my heart like he does
Agreed
every live performance of this song just keeps getting better
I've been a fan since his first album and always wanted him to have more recognition. Now, he's rising and I'll keep supporting his art. Watching him evolve has been a blessing.
I'm in the same boat. I saw him live twice some years back. My introduction to him was on stage. I was impressed. His style was reminiscent of 70s and 80s but it's changed and has a very unique sound now. While I admittedly like the old sound, the new sound is something I'm adapting to, but I do admire the band trying something different.
@@chromatinkiss Oh lucky you, I've never seen him live, it's my dream tho but ... I'm not from the US. Hopefully I will one day soon. I'd love him to play songs from every album cuz I'm truly a fan of all of his work :)
i honestly watch this about 2-3 times a week to keep me motivated
Never heard of this guy but I am instantly all in. Also is that freakin Sam Gendel????? BONUS POINTS
Yelled when Sam Gendel came into view!!! What a great performance all around but hella bonus points indeed 🤠
I thought I recognized him!! 2019 me geeking out rn
Woah this is crazy
He is in that inner circle hahaha
Love, love Mk.gee - he is so talented. Definitely feeling some Joni vibes. I’m listening to him on repeat.
He’s really come a long way 🥹
found the "knew him before everyone else here" comment
So happy to see mk.gee come full circle. I remember hearing “over here” in thirteen reasons why and have always went back and listened to his music. Dude is a genuine artist.
This might be one of the best live performances of all time, mkgee puts so much soul into a 3 minute song thats short lyrics wise. Every line is delivered with such passion, this dudes the future
That outro jam was one of the greatest things I’ve ever heard.. it’s not even close
Thank god for this man. People need to understand how truly incredible this sound is.
Thanks Jimmy Kimmel for having him on your show.. I have not stopped listening to this boy sing since 🩷
He gives me D'Angelo on his Voodoo album vibes. Sometimes he mumbles or he just out right cut lyrics off and let the music finish.
His sound is grounded yet not tethered to reality.
Buddy is beastly.
God damn! So proud he's getting some real eyes on him! Just found about him in march. Been obsessed
Major Bon Iver vibes at the end. Amazing album and song.
BOOM! I looked for this comment before posting the same thing....strong Bon Iver vibes all the way through and just solidified at the end.
Somehow only heard this album for the first in the airport 4 days ago on my way to a stag do. Spent the entire trip listening and crying next to the pool. This man is a genius. Let's give a couple flowers to How To Dress Well along with the Phil Collins and Prince love.
This gives me hope for the future of popular music.
That ending was phenomenal
🔥🔥🔥 i knew it would happen! cant wait til he blow everywhere one of the best artists ive heard in a loooooong time been listening for a while its your time Gee 💯 2024 MUSIC!!!
saw him open for wallows in 2019 so epic to see him here now - mkgee is just so frickin awesome!!
I just recently "discovered" Mk.gee on a short video in my recommendations, now he is popping up all over. Good on him!
😊
Yeah, I am convinced, this guy is a legend. Instant fan.
so amazing to watch mike grow over the years… the confidence you see today is truly remarkable. we love u mike!
Listening to him, I feel the way I felt first time I listened to artists like Bon Iver, The Weeknd, and The 1975.
Praise the lord 🙌 You deserve this this buddy, I hope you can feel the weight of this moment in your heart 🙏🏻
I was sent this song by the Love of my Life ... had never heard it before .... now I play it constantly.... it's so Pure .... Mesmerising... Transcends time ..❤
The best to ever do it.
Tonight is the first time I've ever heard this song. Came up on my fyp on TikTok. Can't stop listening... it's soooo good!
This guy is for me one of the premier souls of the infinite ages of the universe.
So good and so cool walking in from the shadows and backing out at the end. What a performance. This guy better be an astronaut because he is heading for the stars!

Think i found Mkgee by randomly shazamming You from his first album a few years ago. Glad to run back into him with an even more pronounced sound. A true talent.
Definitely my favorite version of this song. Major Christopher Cross vibes. Wish it was on streaming
His music is so raw I love it
This guy needs a tiny desk
He probably already has a regular sized desk for his music gear. I don’t think a tiny one would be any good.
This is why we can’t have nice things in the internet shrek
I’d give my first born to see that

I like the singer a lot , for anyone that’s curious the sax player Sam Gendel is an amazing artist as well
Heck yes. I love this tone. So happy to see Mk.Gee breaking through.
Love love love this song. This guy’s guitar sound is 🔥
最後の去り方、マジでカッコ良すぎるだろ
Idk how or why this video came across my radar today but I am _so_ glad it did. I am reminded of *Cocteau Twins, Stevie Wonder, and early Peter Gabriel* all at once. Very good.
I always think the other musicians - especially when they are so few - should be credited too. Lovely to see the productive (but still with great quality) Sam Gendel also popping up here! Both versatile and with an unmistakable sound. Check him out if you don't know ~
Do you know who the 3rd person is?
Been a fan for a long while now, so proud to see this man up here
I hate that this sounds better then the album version...
Wayyy better. So cool
That’s how you know it’s the real deal when live surpasses anything on an album. Legend status reached
totally agree. i like the album version but it’s a lot choppier. the live performance flows smoothly. and his vocals are a lot more hyped live
This kid is everything. Wow. ❤ I’m not crying YOU’RE crying!!!
YESSSSSSS!!! so proud of this guy
Now this New Wave music! Total back in the 80s with this guys music and image.
Let’s GOOO a year ago my boy was underground
Maybe once every two years a record knocks me out of my chair. This is one of those records. I can't believe this guy wrote this stuff at 24-25.
MK. GEE MY GOAT!!!! 🐐🐐🐐🐐
just discovered the song today on Spotify, in love.
We making it out the batcave with this one
Such a great album
A one of kind musician
Sounds like 80’ music 🎵 👍😍
Like Prince meets Justin Beiber’s voice 🥰
It’s crazy that a guy took the most generic music aesthetic of that decade and made it incredible
@@Syngekhoomei Incredible?
