Cornell and Gerald. Man what a team THAT was! Philly rhythm section. Crazy! Best of the best. Never forget when I met them both in Talahessee FL back in '87 after I had just finished my first world tour. They were SO COOL after the show. They wanted me to hang out and party with them when they heard I was a Philly drummer. I was so honored, but, I was in the military and couldnt afford to fail a drug test. Lol. I was so tempted though just to say that I did. Those guys.....Monster players. Homies from Philly. They knew all my high school musician friends. Pops Adderly was there too. Joe dedicated 'Mercy, Mercy' to him and Cannonball. Pops was in his 90s. He got a standing ovation. Cool show. Drove 3hrs to see it. Those cats were on another level! Way abo e my pay grade. Lol. I was blessed to be able to see them in a small venue like that up close. Only a few hundred in the small theatre. Very cool. Intimate setting. The Moon Theatre in Talahessee, FL.
POST Weather Report, this was an era unto it's own. I've never heard Joe more impressive, and it was because of Scott I believe. He had found someone on the same level as Jaco, only 6 string rather than 4 string bass guitar. Out of this world, zen stuff. BE THE BALL
Go Scott!!!!! He looks almost scared of Zawinal at times - i bet the guy could be a real stern taskmaster - but he goes for it anyway, and sounds kick ass as always. LOVE the guy!!!!
I looks like it's either one of the two 'classic' mid 1980 Ibanez models: either the Roadstar II RS RG440, or it is the Roadstar Deluxe RG450 - Both were kinda 'wish-list' instruments, coveted by many aspiring teen guitarists in the 80s, including myself - it was my 'dream guitar' at some point back then.
Does anyone here know if there’s more concert footage with Scott Henderson playing with The ZS? He’s said how much he’s influenced by JZ, and how much he enjoyed playing with him.
Quite possibly the worst haircut he ever had. But a monster player even back then. Joe sure picked killers over and over again, I never saw a bad version of his band.
I am slightly disappointed. it plays "wood", and no soul, Zawinul has smoked too much it seems ... But Henderson awake a little bit this piece ! The end is a nod to weather report whithout Jaco..; anyway, we love them !
I read a great interview where Scott talks about why he left Chick. Apparently Chick wanted Scott to play certain things and was very strict about what had to be played by band members. Scott couldn't stand playing in such a restricted environment and just left.
+Twsuf1 Chick was (still is?) a proselytizing Scientologist. Scott apparently couldn't stand that. Bill Connors left Return to Forever for basically the same reason. By the way, Zawinul's bands are great.
yes you are absolutely correct.Henderson hated Chick and his blabbering music .Sometimes fells like I am hearing some non stop classical BS written by a Jazz classical wannabe .Scott hated that and said that "With Joe was great ,you have all the freedom to jam-I agree with him completely. I have been playing with such musicians like Chick and it is horrible when they bring you bed sheets charts with written all over the place shit and you have to memorize all their BS and you are wondering where is the music that I want to make. Many are like classical composers and they have the wrong bands and when you hate their shit and cannot memorize their bullshit they hate you and say :you are a bad musician . Hell bring me the chord changes and relax LOL. Not Beethoven 9 th and want me to learn it in 15 minutes. Some people are over-themselves LOL Corea was one example.
Henderson speed and dexterity with that bluesy kind of phrasing is amazing

At that time, NOTHING I HAD EVER SEEN was even comparable.
2 decades ahead of his time, got to love the Scott Henderson.
Tear it up, and burn it..
absolutely savage solo by henderson ❤
Had the good fortune of seeing this group, it changed my Musical Life!
POST Weather Report, this was an era unto it's own.

Hendo showin THAT is how it’s done when playing over one key center
Zawinul is off the hook and Henderson is out of his mind! Great back & forth.
Totally! 👍💃
Totally, but I still like the way Scott Henderson faced it.

Great to see Joe Z and all his amazing pioners
He always has such a great sound...
Henderson is so intense.
Damn, Scott just tore it up!
Great smokin' groove and I dig the outdoor live setting!
wow! what a great solo.
Go Scott!!!!! He looks almost scared of Zawinal at times - i bet the guy could be a real stern taskmaster - but he goes for it anyway, and sounds kick ass as always. LOVE the guy!!!!
Yeah! Tear it up, Scott!

Reminds me of that grooving thing from Jarrett's Koln Concert.
Thank You very much :)
This is my uncle!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm BEN HENDERSON!
Benjamin Catalán omg
LOL, yeah... though I must admit you really look like you could be related to Scott
Your uncle is bad ass.
He was out in the audience before hand. Got to meet him briefly. He had a wireless rig and could play while walking around in the audience.
@@GerrytheArtist He has always been inspiring when playing his guitar.
Scott Henderson!
awesome! thanks
Love Scott's playing and Jewfro.
You're great 👍
Henderson at cruising altitude for the first 5 minutes or so before taking off
And both instruments were from Ibanez' 1986 catalog.

Joe 👍👍👍👍👍
hell yeah
Scott When he reminded me quite a bit of Brian May...but long since already sounding like the Hard Blues Jazz Rock Fusion master that he is.
What the drive!
Henderson 👍👍👍

Henderson no pudo venir con Zawinil Sindecate a Chile
...
Why no sound in Zawinuls left synth? He often had that kind of problem live, it seems.
If you listen closely you can hear it ;-)
Yeah dude he's playing an ostinato line which is clearly in the mix.
Yeah
Scott's playing was much better back then imo.
Gotta love Scott's playing and his big ole Jewfro.
Scottt
sometimes seeing a little Frank Zappa in Scott...the same kick-ass mischievousness
Now Frank Gambalestein has your gig.
Did he appear on any albums with Joes Syndicate
Anyone knows which keynoard is that one looking like a DX7?
You're welcome.
I knew that was Ibanez, but thanks anyway.
Scott is a brilliant musician. Check out this video with Chick Corea's Electrik Band 1986.

Ok 😂
Damn, this is some cookin' shit!
**********************.jd.
Thank goodness for Henderson's solo...it saved this musical nonsense.
A bit of a mess I guess.
Badly prepared. Bad sound.
Drummer gets on my nerves.
Seen better Zawinul syndicate concerts.
Why did Scott leave Chick for this piece of shit band? I would have just done the robot, Lol
