Back then crossovers didn’t exist because you had to push the ball straight down with your palm otherwise it was a travel. Nothing on the side of the ball, that’s why their dribbling looks so nerdy and mechanical. Just doing what they had to do

In case you don't know who he was, he had previously gotten past the original college basketball scandal of 1951 involving 7 different colleges (including the ever famous University of Kentucky) despite him also placing bets on games his college team at Columbia University was on at the time. He tried to do that again in the NBA for the Pistons thinking he wouldn't get caught, but he was caught, and thus his spot was removed following his permanent banning from the NBA. Years later, he would be a key figure for another major college basketball scandal in 1961, to the point where he would spend 5 years in prison for bribing many more college players from many more colleges than what the 1951 scandal had at the time (though he was originally on the hook for 10 to 15 years in prison), despite him actually applying to be a lawyer at the time. 1950s-1970s - basketball is played with all of the players passing the ball continuously to their team mates because by that time, there are many strict rules in terms of dribbling violation. 1970s-1990 - Basketball barely changed, the players gained more access about ball dribbling and players are so aggresive and huddling under the paint. 2000s-2020 - NBA has gone soft. Too many players argue with a simple contact and officiating crews are also doing terrible job at giving fouls and ejections (remember Tim Duncan ejected while laughing at the bench?). But the good side is, basketball is played now by shooting half court threes in a regular basis, more dribbling, and isolation plays.
The game had an elegance to it back in the day, aside from the extremely awkward looking set shots. Sad speaking of awkward, pairing the footage with modern music was odd.
