on the original job tom you had laminate flooring so you had no choice but to do the best job you could as agreed at the time had the flooring been up . then you could give the customer what they wanted . not your fault at all thanks for re- videoing it . class work again tom

Great vid. Agree with your comments re sponsors - a lot of other trades channels have just become adverts, with all sorts of weird contrived uses for CT1, etc.
Very good advice Tom for any apprentices (or anyone) about de-nailing your timber. ALWAYS de-nail your timber to prevent a trip to A&E with a foot injury. I was taught this when building/striking theatrical scenery as a 17yr old. That's a long time ago and I still do it now, using my ancient Stanley Steelmaster claw hammer 😅

Great video Tom, thanks. Unlike with your work, I see crappy electrical at 9:43 and 11:42 with Wagos dangling in the air.😱 Pity about that beautifully installed copper, but, as you say, the customer must be happy at the end of the day.
Actually just hit the part of the video where you discuss sponsors, bravo mate don't want to be installing products that you don't trust it's your name that it affects not theirs.
Hi Tom, like you said you did initially agree with the customer to pipe on the surface. I fitted similar type radiators supplied by the customer but the customer was not happy because they didn’t heat the room efficiently. I just like the type 22 radiators a good product I think for the money, obviously sized appropriately. Another great film thank you Tom, take care. 👍👍👍
Hi Tom i wouldn't feel to bad mate about the pipe fittings as they had already agreed to them and there's nothing wrong with being old school in your work ethic, as always good job👍
Well done Tom sometimes customers don’t listen properly and blame you for not doing it as they thought glad it turned out well hope you didn’t lose out too much
The house is lovely and warm now, I took out an old one pipe system which never really worked, so the rads all now work efficiently. I went back the other day to do another little job here, and the first thing they said was how warm the house is now, thanks for the support as always
While you got the floor boards up tom the customer may need to get the Sparky back too, by the looks of those wiring joints … Basic insulation showing no strain relief on the cable joints at all… tut tut ❤️👍
Gowan.... give us a hint on the product you don't like Tom. I really like your narration as you give that real sense of taking us on your job and being there on site in the real thick of it with you😊.. The pipe run ain't that bad..
I might tell the story one day fully, but I had just finished having a row with their technical department, and an email pings saying they want to make me a vip. You honestly couldn't make it up, but I know a lot of plumbers who had issues with the particular product, thanks for watching mate
5that rad is flow sensitive...you have a small rubber bung which has to be hammmered 1/3 way into bottom pipe rail and put flow on the side you put the bung in....otherwise the flow goes straight across bottom of rad....
I thought that, I know some have that stop you tap in to send the water to the top, these heated up fine though. I went to a job recently where the water was just going through the bottom of a radiator similar to this .I tapped a 10mm speed fit cap into the first rail and it fixed it, thanks for watching mate
You can always take the materials they provide and review them honestly, if they’re rubbish, just say so! As for the job in the video, I’m not sure what else you could have done given the laminate was already down. It’s definitely not your fault, and the work looked neat. :)
Thanks for the support mate, I just kind of want to keep my videos as genuine as possible, when you get given free stuff it would be almost as if I have to find the positives of something
17:08 - I have vertical radiators and the inlet side/flow is more important for them than smaller non-vertical radiators. The baffles obviously direct the flow up, the manufacturer told me flow->inlet was important and they'd had people calling them complaining of cold radiators that had been insalled the wrong way around. That said, my shitty plumber put them on the wrong way round and they still worked (probably less efficient). I guess it all depends on the boiler pump's power, the number of radiators and length of runs. I've had the flow/return swapped on one of my verticals when I got some work done upstairs, and would recommend flow-> inlet every time, particularly for verticals.
That sounds right, I always try to follow manufactures instructions, I have been to tall rads with cold spots in where they have been piped wrong, thanks for watching
One of our fitters nearly burnt a house down with the super fire blow torch, he didn't turn it off at the valve and it fell over when he was down stairs and flicked the ignition button and lit the torch,, when he came back upstairs the bedroom was well alight!😮😮😮
I had similar issue on my own property but as it’s a bungalow with concrete screed floor, just boxed the pipes along the whole length with new Mdf bullnose skirting in front, once painted don’t even notice now.
Been there got all the T shirts. That’s one of the reasons I hated working in people’s house. Stuck to industrial and commercial that’s what I served my time on also I preferred by far over domestic plumbing.👍👍👍👍
New to the channel and new to plumbing. One question ... when you install skirting boards over wall-mounted radiator tubes, do you buy off-the-shelf skirts or do a a custom-make ? If custom, what skirt material is best suited to the job ?
It was always down to have these two rooms with the pipework on surface, I upgraded from an old one pipe system, where the entire house was surfaced fixed. Due to extensive renovation, I upgraded the system, and hid all the pipework. These two rooms were used for storage, and I only had a small area to originally work in so clipping back on the skirting was the only real option as the floor was laminate and was staying. Once the rest of the house was complete, the customer decided these two rooms were to be done, and they then wanted the pipes hiding

Thanks for the support mate, these rooms weren't down to be touch on the original job, the house was mostly gutted due to having a big extension done and knocking walls about, when everything else was done they decided to do these as well, I think it had new skirtings and new built in wardrobes
I was glad you got the copper out instead of having plastic from the floor to the rad. However I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T USE CHROME PLATED COPPER!!! I know you can get collars but the proper stuff looks way better.
Fair point, I fitted what was supplied, the customer painted the pipes the same colour as the rads, the chrome potentially may have stood out, thanks for watching
@@PlumbLikeTom Fair enough, you can't control the client. I have anthracite rads. The chrome looks really good. Going all Anthracite would look bad imo.
Yeah the radiator thumbs stop you getting the black iron all over the house. Don’t get bent out of shape Tom, the client obviously changed his mind. I always trim the Loctite 55 off the thread when tightened up to tidy. Takes longer than making the thread up. lol.
Dont know about you tom, But I find it a little irritating when you have a grey Radiator and you get Grey valves, But they come with a chrome rad iron fitting.
had to do 3 bedrooms a few years back, they wanted rads moved from internal walls to the external ones, but had recently put down all new laminate in every room, ended up using the old stabs sticking up then piping right around the 3 rooms, looked shit tbh but they didn't want the flooring disturbed :( If they'd done it a few months earlier, the old flooring could've been taken up and a much neater job done....some customers eh
I know exactly what you mean, the amount of times people have new flooring done and then want the radiators sorting, I just recently did an en-suite, they had just had new carpets fitted throughout the house, I carpet protected everything but I just thought to myself why not have it done after
It was always down to have these two rooms with the pipework on surface, I upgraded from an old one pipe system, where the entire house was surfaced fixed. Well done for not cashing out to make a quick buck. If only the customer would have listened when you attended the job for the first time, as you say Tom, only can only do what you have been asked.
I still use copper pipe and never touch plastic rubbish as I stick to the old methods. copper piping is the best and still will be for centuries....I never a big fan of any plastic material and copper pipe work is magnificent.
Can't be helped Tom .like you said pipe install was discussed on site because of the laminate floor .so not your fault.👍👍👍 Love those wago connectors used on the electric cables under the floor and not enclosed in a box .shocking.

Yeah the radiator thumbs stop you getting the black iron all over the house. Don’t get bent out of shape Tom, the client obviously changed his mind. I always trim the Loctite 55 off the thread when tightened up to tidy. Takes longer than making the thread up. lol.
They do, it saved me a couple of times, thanks for the support as always Dave
Dont know about you tom, But I find it a little irritating when you have a grey Radiator and you get Grey valves, But they come with a chrome rad iron fitting.
I don't know why they don't come grey, thanks for watching as always John
had to do 3 bedrooms a few years back, they wanted rads moved from internal walls to the external ones, but had recently put down all new laminate in every room, ended up using the old stabs sticking up then piping right around the 3 rooms, looked shit tbh but they didn't want the flooring disturbed :(
If they'd done it a few months earlier, the old flooring could've been taken up and a much neater job done....some customers eh
I know exactly what you mean, the amount of times people have new flooring done and then want the radiators sorting, I just recently did an en-suite, they had just had new carpets fitted throughout the house, I carpet protected everything but I just thought to myself why not have it done after
hows the house extension coming on? did you fill the soakaway in?
I've got the trusses on, but it won't be water tight this year now, the time just slips away
So was it like: "I want copper all across the skirting" or was it like "fit these rads" and just the easiest possible way to do it?
It was always down to have these two rooms with the pipework on surface, I upgraded from an old one pipe system, where the entire house was surfaced fixed. Due to extensive renovation, I upgraded the system, and hid all the pipework. These two rooms were used for storage, and I only had a small area to originally work in so clipping back on the skirting was the only real option as the floor was laminate and was staying. Once the rest of the house was complete, the customer decided these two rooms were to be done, and they then wanted the pipes hiding
Well done for not cashing out to make a quick buck. If only the customer would have listened when you attended the job for the first time, as you say Tom, only can only do what you have been asked.
Thanks for the support as always Andy, it is greatly appreciated
I still use copper pipe and never touch plastic rubbish as I stick to the old methods. copper piping is the best and still will be for centuries....I never a big fan of any plastic material and copper pipe work is magnificent.
I use both. Shame you're stuck in the old ways.
Can't be helped Tom .like you said pipe install was discussed on site because of the laminate floor .so not your fault.👍👍👍
Love those wago connectors used on the electric cables under the floor and not enclosed in a box .shocking.
Thanks for the support John, the customer did that bit of wiring, the electrician on the job sorted it
Bit of classical music? Can’t beat the 1812😀
I always remember the recommended pipe spacing for 15mm copper as the 1812 oveture, 1800 vertical, 1200 horizontal
@ never thought of that!! Now I’ll always remember😀😀
