The subtitles for that one moment were in fact WRONG, Belos did shout 'Caleb!', not 'Kill him!'. Good on Kenny for sticking to his guns on that one!

Oh y'all just wait gravity falls has a very slow start but once it starts picking up the pace at least story wise it'll probably be one of your guys favorites
after you watch gravity falls you then have to watch amphibia with there being multiple gravity falls easter eggs most straight up in ur face like not even hiding it and a whole crossover ep where we see the gravity falls characters in frog for in amphibia an in the owl house we see an amphibia easter egg and in amphibia we legit see the owl house itself and they have a Chibi short crossover between amphibia and the owl house with the owl house gravity falls and amphibia all being very canon in the same universe and sharing the same MASSIVE fandom!

The subtitles say "Kill him," but it's been confirmed that the voice line is, in fact, "Caleb."
I wish they changed it because it’s such an important line that was mistranslated in subtitles
Exactly it threw so many people for a loop that Dana herself had to explain he said “Caleb” not “Kill him”

It's annoying, but as someone who engages with a lot of translated content, one honest mistake is better than a lot of stuff. (Films that got perfect theatrical releases here followed by Blu-rays that forgot to include sub track for on-screen text or had what looked like a half-finished version of the translation &c.)
I don't know how Disney+ stores their subs for playback, so I don't know how easy it would be to fix.

Fun fact about the collector: The walls he was tearing apart to "make the Owl House" was the skull of the titan. The very same titan who's VEINS are strong enough to bounce off most magic, and he's shredding the bones into small pieces without even giving much thought. The collector is scary.

Collectors live longer, and become stronger by collecting different species on different planets, but they died because they were fighting with the Titans. So they are demigods. BUT if they would’ve collect more species and became, when was stronger, they could’ve became full GODs but they died since at the end of the show, the colector could probably become way stronger than his siblings, because he can continue collecting different species but yes

There's no reason to think they gain power from collecting species, it's just what they do. Could be for any number of reasons; just to have a purpose, for the sake of study, or maybe it saddens them to watch other life forms inevitably end up extinct.
@@nickmilano2516 I don't think the Archivists **can** die. I'm pretty sure that they are fundamentally immortal, while the titans were fundamentally mortal. That is the key difference between the two.

the archivists aren't immortal, they're the same as the titans...they're temporal immortal, meaning they can't die from aging, they can only die from being killed, and titans are one of the only things that can kill them
While the ending of the season is definitely bleak, if anyone is the right person to parent and gently guide six traumatized teenagers, it's definitely Camilla.

Fun fact: Luz comes back to Earth in Connecticut, and it's raining... The day the episode was first released, there was a rainy night in Connecticut.

@@HaydrogenBomb in real life. The episode was released by the Disney app at nigh, and when the chapter ended, some fans from Connecticut recorded how it began to rain almost as the chapter finished (just like Luz when she arrived home)

Hunter has a sigil because he needs to feel just useful enough to continue to help in Belos's plan. no one knew what the sigils were actually for so Belos gave Hunter one so no one would think twice about it. also he's killed so many grimwalkers that he doesn’t really care if he dies. it would be a necessary sacrifice

So another fun fact about this episode, when it aired there were thunderstorms raging in Connecticut and this was posted by several people within the fandom. This would also be the last episode where we see Belos as we have seen him.
(At 23:19) At THIS moment, I thought was… "Do these 4 kids around Luz look scared to meet Camila?"
But _THIS_ image of these 5 kids looking sad and defeated was memorable to a lot of fan art.

I've always like this detail, but the coven leader with the knife is the healing coven leader. AKA the one that probably knows EXACTLY where to cut to deal the most damage.
I love that while Belos' plan reflects Father's from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, it's still different enough to not be a copy.
At least Father had a goal in mind with energy he was draining from the people of Amestris. The only goal in Belos' mind was genocide.
So glad Kenny caught the _Amphibia_ shout out with the news story on Camila's tablet. Although, given how close those two series are, many in those fandoms are convinced they share the same narrative universe (along with another series which I'm excited for you two to start).
Speaking of series to watch next, I highly recommend watching _Gravity Falls_ and all it's related mini-episodes before starting _Amphibia._ Both shows share a lot in terms of characterization, humor, and plot structure, but there's a lot of callbacks to _Gravity Falls_ throughout _Amphibia_ that won't have the same comedic impact without having seen the former series first.
That, and there's aspects of a main character's growth and one episode in particular in _Amphibia_ that take direct inspiration from some of the best moments of _Gravity Falls._ My advice is to to watch that series first, then go into _Amphibia_ as blind as possible. You'll be able to better see how each compliments the other.
That is an excellent suggestion, didn't even occur to me since I watched Gravity Falls long before Amphibia even aired.

@@Leebakesacake Matt Braly himself said he took a lot of inspiration for Anne's character arc from Pacifica's brief development. It's rather fitting since he was the driving force behind her best episode in Gravity Falls (and a supporter of the ship it launched).
Caleb was his brothers name. Flap Jack use to be Caleb’s palisman so Belos saw Flap and said Caleb. That’s why Flap Jack gave Hunter the name Caleb in Any Sport in a Storm.
So Belos wasn't getting the power that was being drained. The Draining Spell really had no purpose other than to kill everyone connected to it. Belos justified his actions by claiming he was protecting humanity from the evil of the Demon Realm. I imagine he even convinced himself that he would leave magic behind once he returned home and that he only learned it in the first place as a necessary evil to combat an even greater evil. Hopefully that helps clear up what was going on a bit as you guys seemed a little stuck on the idea that the drained power was being used for something.

Season 2 was an intensely traumatic one for King and the finale makes sure to get one last kick in. But on a serious note, King giving up so much to make sure Luz and the others are safe is such a stark difference from his season 1 self. He wasn't a bad person by any means, but he was a lot more selfish and self-absorbed, and such care for others is definitely something that he gained in this season.
Belos said "Caleb", not "Kill him." The subtitles got it wrong.

Luz is going to be emotionally shattered because of the events of this episode. The Boiling Isles in chaos, King and Eda with an unsure fate, her friends stranded from their homes and families, because she was tricked into introducing Belos to the Collector.
She's in a very dark mental place right now heading into Season 3, and I can't wait to see what you'll have to say about it.

This is truly one hell of a finale, so much chaos that is treated so well the culminates in a sad and intriguing end to segway to season 3! you are in for a wild ride!!
Always love seeing Luz and Amity being a badass power couple and combining their magic like they do in this episode against Monster Belos. Also the way they protect each other like Amity using her Abomination goo to shield Luz and Luz catching Amity is really cute. And then the way that Luz put her arm around Amity to shield her when they thought they were done for, awesome witch girlfriends being protective of each other just warms my heart.

Been waiting for that Luz vs Belos rematch since the end of season 1. And just like the first time Luz is once again able to manipulate the master manipulator just like how he has tricked so many others all throughout the show. At the end of season 1 she tricked him by pretending to surrendor the portal door only to blow it up with glyphs, now at the end of season 2 she's able to trick him by pretending to be his modern world guide only to brand him with his own glyph glove. Luz beats Belos at his own game in a brilliant moment that really shows how smart she is.

31:09 - Slight correction: Belos didn't get rid of the basilisks, he brought them back from extinction to study their magic draining capabilities (I assume under the Collector's instruction)
when kenny said "the ship pilots itself" I first thought he meant huntlow xD
that ending literally broke me, and honestly, the collector powers are crazy, the way they fixed draining spell, by literally moving the moon with his finger is crazy, I was too stunned to speak
+ the luz situation, when I thought, that they've gonna tear lumity apart was hard, cried my eyes out, the full on devastation after s2 ending is too real
+ you caught amphibia reference right, love that their universes are connected like that
And so we come to the traumatic end of season 2. It has been a blast watching Kenny and Montana go through this series so far, diving deep into the wonderful highs and soul-crushing lows the Owl House residents have experienced. Luz especially has had her entire spirit built up throughout this season only to have it plunge into the worst depression and self-hatred possible at the end. She's watched (and felt responsible for) her dreams of studying magic and connecting with others who understand her divergent perspective become a living nightmare that seemingly inflicts nothing but pain and misery on everyone she considers close to her.
But aside from that, its been interesting watching them theorize about Belos' plans for the Draining Spell and the Day of Unity. Their theories about it being a means to release the Collector or syphoning all the Isles' magic for himself and having Hunter be a keystone in the process would have been a good villain character arc, but the truth is far more interesting and horrifying. Belos never cared about using the magic of the Demon Realm or the Collector to become a god. From his viewpoint, it is a heinous, corruptive power and all who use it are a threat to the human realm he believes he is saving from this evil. His use magic and manipulation of everyone on the Boiling Isles is a self-sacrifice he is willing to inflict upon himself to purge this world of its supposed evil. That's why he betrayed the Collector and planned to use the last titan's blood supply to go through the portal himself; to tell everyone in the human realm of the horrific monstrosities he's slain in the defense of their souls.
And then there's Hunter, the grimwalker copy he made of his brother and probably one of the more heinous aspects of Belos' arc. It turns out he isn't necessary for the Draining Spell at all. His existence wasn't even vital to his overall goals. Hunter is just the latest attempt (among a disturbingly large number of failures) by Belos to make a better version of his brother, Caleb. One that is loyal to him and his views, one that will never betray him by willingly consorting with the Demon Realm's inhabitants. One that he won't be forced to kill again to save his soul.
Its these details that make Belos one of the most interesting villains in Western animation we've seen in years. Creating an interesting antagonist that is malicious and evil with no sympathetic qualities is hard enough; to make them resonate with viewers as they discover the depths they're willing to sink to in pursuit of their goals takes that much more effort and talent.
Belos losing it after seeing Flapjack is still one of my favorite scenes in the show. The animation, the implications, the voice-acting . . .
(At 16:20) "A child from the star?" There only one thing I can think of that fit those details similar to a god… The Collector is Celestial child. He *might* be more powerful than Bill Cipher.
Lillith probably has some conflicting emotions this episode.
Eda wouldn't even be in this situation if SHE hadn't cursed her, and yet, the curse is their only hope to stop the Day of Unity.
On the other hand, if she hadn't cursed Eda she and Eda would still be at full power and together with Raine, Eberwolf and Darrius could have stopped the draining spell through force.

In a video interview with Rebbeca Rose, series creator Dana Terrace revealed that the finale was originally going to utilize licensed music (similar to Amphibia's Season 1 Finale Reunion) but due to budget cuts they couldn't afford it. Disney lost tons of theme park revenue during the pandemic and had to cut funding to a lot of it's shows to make up for it, which is part of the reason why TOH's third season is so short.
So like…. What song where they gonna use?
Ngl, I prefer when shows (except maybe satyrical shows) don't use licensed music. I feel like it breaks immersion.
This chapter was a great end to the season, to think that we had to wait months to see what happened with the Hexsquad

I will always and forever love seeing people's initial reactions to how powerful The Collector is. The way he destroys Belos in seconds, the way he just "Boop"s the spell. Every part of it just hits so hard in making the viewer realize they're just as lost as the characters.

And if he hadn't taken the time to twist the knife with Kikimora, she wouldn't have helped King find the Collector. Philip has a consistent problem where he sabotages himself constantly because when faced with a choice between the smart option and the cruel one, he'll choose cruelty every time.
Okay no but imagine having watched that live like, that cliffhanger had us GUTTED 😭😭 that and the promo art Dana was making with it had us in shambles

The collectors theme is a banger
A perfect finale for a perfect season. Fittingly intense and one the scariest episodes in the show in my opinion. The Day of Unity is a terrifying event, Monster Belos is horrifying and the Collector is a genuinely intimidating threat at this point. All that and we end on a heartbreaking cliffhanger with Luz and the Hexsqaud being stuck in the human realm away from everyone else from the demon realm who has been left the mercy of the Collector.
So the Day of Unity has finally arrived and while it's always been known what it is, getting to see Belos's genocide plans come to reality is horrifying. That old white colonizer bigot literally had hundreds of year to become a more understanding person and he still held on to his irrational hatred and a literal genocide plan. Really goes to show that deranged bigots like that really don't want to understand and will cover their eyes and block their ears to the world so they can justify their hatred. We also find out one of the main purposes of the Abomaton's, keeping everyone from escaping and in retrospect the Hexsqaud being kept in the bubble in the last episode kind of seems like a set up for this. The CATTS had a good plan with using Eda to take Raine's place and using her curse to disrupt the draining spell but it all tragically falls apart and we a get a really cool fight scene where we actually get to see what the other Coven Heads who went a little underdeveloped can do. Dana has said in a podcast that the Portions, Oracle, Healing and Construction Coven Heads would have all gotten more screentime if the show had been cut short. It's a shame they didn't get it but at least we get to see some of their skills in this episode. I also love the scene after the draining spell starts, when Eda and Raine are dying but Raine uses the last of their strength to pull Eda's arm with the Sigal off. It's a powerful moment that is kind of foreshadowed all throughout the show but even in the same episode with Eda casually removing her limbs before hand. Arm chopping can indeed be a love language.
The fight with Belos is intense and I love that we get a rematch between Luz and him from the season 1 finale. I think my only complaint is that Luz didn't do better after how strong she's become, kind of feels like she was heavily nerfed in this fight for story purposes but whatever. What I do love is the mind game between them afterwards and how Luz for the second time is able to manipulate the master manipulator who has tricked so many other people throughout the show. At the end of season 1 she tricked him by pretending to surrender the portal door but blowing it up with glyphs, now at the end of season 2 she's able to trick him by pretending to be his modern world guide only to brand him with the same type of glyph that he's used on everyone else. Luz beats Belos at his own game in a brilliant moment that really shows how smart she is. Things don't turn out as expected however when it turns out that Belos can't turn off the draining spell on his own and the Collector, the only person who could stop it he threw down a cliff. This leads to Belos giving in to his gooey monster which a genuinely scary design. Not only the way looks but the somewhat twitchy and fast way that he moves. Luckily Luz's girlfriend and friends are able to show up in time to help her team up against Belos's monstrous form. It's always awesome seeing all the kids teaming up and another little detail I love about this fight is seeing Luz and Amity being a power couple and combining their magic as well. Also the way they protect each other like Amity shielding Luz with her Abomination goo and Luz catching Amity is really cute.
This episode also feels like the culmination King's character arc throughout season 2. He's matured a lot since the beginning of the series, but after realising that he's a Titan he's been having a hard time feeling useful. The world of the Boiling Isles is literally ending thanks to Belos and King knows that he has so much potential power as a Titan but being so young he can't really use it. He wants to feel more useful but he doesn't know what he can do to help, which is where Willow comes in with her beautiful advice to him at the start of the episode. And indeed King is able to find his opportunity help in the form of setting the Collector free and bribing him into saving everybody. It's a smart call for King with the Collector being the only that can stop the Day of Unity, but little did he know the chaos that it would lead to.
Then comes the reveal of the Collector in their physical form at the end, showing up to flex their power by literally one shotting the main villain of the show and moving the sun. It's a pretty shocking turn of events that I'm not sure really pays off in the end. Not saying that I don't like the direction they took his character in season 3 but this episode is the peek of the Collector in terms of their character. Just the sheer intimidation they bring of a child that has way too much power, the dark red lighting of the scene. It's a great scene that I don't think the character really deserves and I kinda of feel the Collector is the second most overrated character in the show after Hunter. Anyway, they end up forcing Luz and the Hexquad into the Demon Realm and separate them from friends and family. At least they have Luz's mum Camilla to look after them for now and as you guys already know at this point, Camilla ends up being the greatest mum in season 3 with how accepting and supportive she is of Luz, her witch girlfriend and their witch friends.
And with that we conclude the Owl House season 2, a perfect season of serialised animated storytelling. I personally think that the entire show is great but I have to admit that season 2 is especially on another level. It's where the Owl House became more overt about it's queer representation and made Luz and Amity an official couple who ended up being one of the most well written queer relationships in media. It introduced loads of great new characters like the revolutionary Raine Whispers who is wonderful nonbinary representation, the fabulously badass Darius Deamonne and some terrifyingly deadly villains like Terra Snapdragon. And it's where the Owl House became much more complex with storytelling and heavier with it's themes. All that's left now is the big 3 episodes of the final season.

The subtitles were incorrect. He canonically says Caleb.
Boats can, in fact, have pilots. Usually you'll see them in complex river systems, such as the Mississippi. But in thi case, they are airborne, as you noted.

Pretty sure the subtitle was wrong, and Belos did in fact say "Caleb!" Caleb was not only the name that Flapjack suggested to Hunter back in the flyer derby episode, but it was also the name of Belos' brother, to whom Flapjack originally belonged.

I think Dana confirmed that Belos said "Caleb!", not "Kill him!" So you were right!! Caleb is Belos' (Phillip's) brother!

Its crazy to think that back when belos tried to put coven symbols on witches (in his memory/flashback episode), and after they collapsed to the floor he was told by a golden guard that "they're still alive" and his reply was that there was work to do.
and i thought he meant in order to get the coven symbols to work safely so nobody would suspect his (unknown at the time) plans. BUT HE WAS STRAIGHT UP JUST TRYING TO END THEM

Don't know how many times I have watched this episode, especially the last 10 minutes on my own or during someone's reaction, but it still gets me every single time.
I see many others stated the purpose for the draining spell, the title Philip wanted, and the caption error.
Both looking forward to and dreading watching these last three episodes with you. Seeing these reactions of people who haven't seen them is like watching it fresh. Not for the first time of course because I already know what happens, but I see things that I miss the first half a dozen times.

In my head canon, the collector taught Philip the draining spell, but he still needed to translate the spell into glyph language. And so he had to experiment with basilisks and their ability to feed on magic
The Collector initially couldn't see King because of the sign that was engraved on his collar. The sign was taken from the island where Eda found him. His father--the Titan who trapped the Collector and the very same Titan that makes up the Boiling Isles--made those safeguards to protect King.

The sphere the Collector's shadow seemed to inhabit looks strikingly like a Beast Ball from Pokémon. They were used in Sun & Moon to capture Ultra Beasts, which were Pokémon-like creatures from other dimensions. I'm not sure if it was an intentional reference or not, but the color scheme and general structure seems much too similar to be a coincedence

With regards to Vee and the basilisks, if I'm remembering correctly, I don't think it was Belos that wiped them out. They went extinct, but Belos revived some of them, and held them captive to study their draining magic (he was probably using the knowledge gained from studying them as part of making the draining spell, along with The Collector's guidance).
Belos doesn't say kill him, he says Caleb.

Talk about an emotional conclusion! The collector is free, the isles are kinda messed up now, belos is dead(?), and the kids are separated from their families..
Yeah the caleb / kill him thing was a whole thing when the episode came out, but they confirmed it was supposed to be caleb
