Ha ha! Hello old mate! It’s been a long time! Yes still diving, still living far too far away from the sea, still not going anywhere close to as often as I’d like! Still diving with DaffydRees, although he’s a very busy boy now he’s all grown up and a Dr, so we don’t see each other as often as we’d like. How about yourself? I hope you’re well and still getting wet?! 💦
Brilliant video I fish off the beach, there's really some quality fish. Like the way you can pick what you catch with the gun iv never used one myself but its fascinating to watch and see whats out there off the beach.
Thanks buddy - it’s hard work and you’ve got to put the time in but it’s a magic place. I often speak to fishermen when I’m on the beach, everyone’s always really interested in what’s under the waves, always nice to share what I know. Glad you enjoyed it!
Commitment! that is what we love to see! Hopefully with the Vaxing, things will get back to normal for you all! Hello from Aussie, loved the editing of the footage! You got some great fish, well done! Dive Safe!
Thanks mate, that means a huge amount!! It was a good day out, hopefully a few more like that this year! I've been for one dive so far, very successful but the water was so murky the footage is terrible and really not worth putting into a video. I'm going to have to check out your channel now!
Thank you mate! I was a great day out - I've fished that coastline for years so fortunately I know a lot of little spots where I can find fish. I've got a 3 day trip planned next week so will be sure to get another video together - can't wait!
Nice! tbh I wouldnt have got to the coast as I would have wanted to stop and play in those mountains on the way lol. hopefully more fish for you in 2021...
Cracking video mate I seen a vid of yours 6 months back and I started day dreaming about spearfishing day in day out. Went on my first spearfishing trip this weekend for my 30th 2 days off Anglesey with some local professionals can honestly say it’s one of the best experiences of my life I got 5 fish and 2 lobsters I was the only one out of the group to get anything so shared my catch out! I’m planning another trip soon also I’ll be buying my own gear so any advice on that would be appreciated! Look forward to hearing back from you 👍🏻
That is absolutely brilliant mate, I'm really pleased for you! Very impressed on both the fish and lobsters, I think it took me about 5 years to get a lobster! So gear... this is a black hole..! For reference, the best spearo I ever dived with (Dario Deli, look him up on here!) used the oldest, most rubbish looking gear I've ever seen and he was a fish catching machine, so it's not about having the best gear, it's about getting fish to swim past close enough for you to shoot them. My number one recommendation to be comfortable in the water is to make sure you have enough lead, the shallower you dive, the more you need, I use about 9kg. Make sure you spread it out on your body - so get a nice, stretchy rubber marseilles belt for your waist, I use a Picasso one, and get a weights vest - I have 4kg in the vest and 5 kg on the belt. I started out with a horrible, nylon belt that didn't stretch and 9kgs on my waist, used to make me feel ill! You also really, really don't want to be cold - it will ruin every dive for you - so get a good (5mm minimum) spearfishing suit - if you feel the cold, you could go 7mm, most people don't need to. Speak to the guys at Spearfishing UK, they'll sort you out. The farmer john trousers will be warmer BUT if you need the loo during your dive, you have to completely strip off which is a real pain... I prefer a 7mm top and 5mm high waist trousers for 'ease of access'! Most would be fine with a 5mm top but I feel the cold. Don't forget the lube! I use 'Aqueous Cream', buy it from any pharmacy, it's used to rub on old people. Doesn't smell, good for your skin, super slippy, I mix it up with water in a bottle and pour it into the suit. Gloves, go thin, 2.5mm max, anything thicker is horrible to wear. Socks, doesn't really matter, they'll probably be full of holes before long anyway. Knife, the Omer Mini Laser is the best knife you can buy, no-one will ever convince me otherwise. Mask, whatever fist your face, I've got about 5 masks, you always end up buying different ones. I'd buy a few and send the ones that don't fit back. You HAVE to prep a new mask before using it - you need to burn the inside of the glass with a lighter THEN you need to scrub it with toothpaste, probably 3 times. I also use an anti-fog, McNett Sea Gold. Snorkle, anything will do. Guns... I use Pathos Laser Open Pro guns, I've got them in 60, 82 and 90cm. They are very simple and good to use, although they can be a pain to load, I quite often get into a tangle with mine, even after years of use. The simplest gun to use is a Rob Allen closed muzzle... its a bit of a relic though... I haven't used mine in years. I'd recommend an 82cm gun with a reverse trigger mech for N. Wales, small but powerful, my 82cm gun is basically the only gun I ever use. If you only buy one gun, get an 82cm one. Float, doesn't really matter. The Rob Allen float line is nice, get a line winder and learn how to use it. I use an Epsealon Patrol board - it's massive, not for everyone! I used to have a small float, worked fine. Fins... what's the budget? Plastic, fibreglass, carbon? Fins4U are good, I use their carbons with the pathos footpockets. I can't fault them. I started out with plastic, Omer fins, they were fine, carbon fins are a bit of a step up. If you're on a budget, just get the plastics, they'll be absolutely fine. Dive watch, it's a luxury, I still haven't brought one. Stringer, anything simple will do the job, I've still got my Omer one I brought 15 years ago. Catch bag... anything with a nice, wide opening. That's about it I think - hope that helps a bit - any questions, fire away!
@@BR0SE1DON wow really that’s made me feel even better about the lobsters! 😎 I will admit the instructor found the hole for us and we had to dive down and tickle them out only to a depth of about 5 metres or so! Thank you for the advice on the gear I’ve saved it all to my phone and thanks for the quick reply! I’m looking at joining a spearfishing group so that I can start buddying up on days out for safety just as I start out do you have any recommendations please Thanks again Take care!
Thank you! North Wales is a beautiful place, it's a quite a long drive for me but I'm so lucky to be able to dive there. Do you get seabass in your part of the world?
@@BR0SE1DON Yes, we have. We havent shot seabass underwater. Yet! But fished many of them with rod. Some years they are close to land. Others deep or far out somewhere.

Llyn peninsula buddy, started on the South side, then the tip, then the North side 👍🏼 Not as far round as Morfa, I’ve never found it that fishy up there.
Thank you buddy, I really appreciate it! If you love the fishing and the sea, just give it a go. Even just snorkeling, you can see huge amounts. Just find somewhere shallow with some weed and sand and you'll see fish. Very easy and cheap to get into. I wish you luck!
Technically, you don’t need to hold your breath, you can spear fish perfectly well from the surface while snorkelling in the shallows, you just need to be stealthy; you’ll always have better results and see a lot more fish when you’re actually under the water though - fish are much easier to spear when they are in front of you, as opposed to being below you. My dives generally range between 40 to 90 seconds. In terms of depth, it very much depends on the ground you are fishing but I find shallow water much more productive than deep water. If you you can find some nice weedy ground with a couple of meters of water on a rising tide, you’ll always find fish. The shallower you are diving, the *more* weight you need. For my shallow dives, I have 9kg of lead spread between a stretchy rubber belt and a weights vest. Hope that helps 👍🏼
@@BR0SE1DON thanks mate ! I got invited on 2 days spearfishing trip to North Wales in June. But I never did it before.
