Planting into a cereal rye vetch mixture sown in the fall saves a lot of work and weeding. Just let it get tall and roll it down in the spring and plant into it with no soil tillage.
Have you considered growing in beds instead of conventional rows? Many market farmers have 30" beds while I prefer 3-4'. So, for example, you plant several rows of say beans side by side in the bed.
There is nothing about working smarter than harder when you till a garden. Get it planted then take alot of that hay and cover that garden. Gets rid of the the weeds nature hates bait ground. This fall roll hay out again to cover next spring just leave tractor parked. Rake hay back trench your rows to plant it comes up pull has back against sprout. You want to put down hay about 6 inches the first then just a little every year in thin spots.
I always planted cucumber with what you have in the ground .have a good harvest.😎
