Greg Howe's Introspection was a game changer in instrumental guitar music. You can hear Greg's influence everywhere. Guthrie Govan, Tom Quayle, Alex Hutchins, Andre Nieri, Tosin Abasi, Plini, etc. etc. And what an impressive humble guy he is. Just wow
And let me add that Greg was always light years ahead of anybody else around. Everybody else was competing with each other at a high school level well Greg was already ready to win gold medals in the Olympics
I had the great honor and privilege to take lessons from Greg many years ago before he was well known. But to meet Greg back then anybody with any kind of intuition knew that Greg was one in 1 billion. A virtuoso, usually the coolest one in the room, and a brilliant teacher
Loved seeing Greg play the Philly area in the 80s. Was and is great to see him become successful at his art. Great guy, amazing player and a wonderful person.
Dom my daughter and I met you at Sims Music 5 or 6 years ago and I must say you are a BAD ASS DRUMMER and you actually helped my daughter get a full ride scholarship because of your passion for what you love. She heard you speak and she knew what she wanted to do. Thank you for sharing yourself with the world.
Greg's self titled debut on shrapnel is one of the greatest rock/fusion instrumental albums of all time and my all time favorite recording of his! Saw Greg Live at Night Town in Cleveland Ohio several years back and he was amazing live! Hope to see him in Ohio again someday!
Love Greg's guitar playing, his music had a huge effect on me. I'm a Pro Drummer and have been a fan of Acoustic & Electric Guitarists all my life, Ritenour, Carlton, MgLaughlin, Gambale, Henderson, Taylor, Schofield, Meola, Hinds, Holdsworth, Metheny, Nieri, Conners, the list is endless.
I always admired Greg's guitar playing ever since his first vinyl album that I purchased in the late 80's. A real intelligent gentleman with a great personality you can tell. I just noticed how huge Greg's hands are on this interview!
Wow this is one of the best interview I have ever heard. So much inspiration to take from. Thanks for both of you. Wheelhouse is one of my favorite guitar album from the last 10 years. Greg is a living legend!
I followed the development of fusion guitar since the late 60s and I recall when Greggs first album came out I immediately recognized that he was different from the other shredders of the time. As we all know, he went on to produce more amazing music, and of course this is further enhanced by his humility and intelligence, as on show in this excellent interview. Thanks for the music Gregg!
What a great interview! Greg is not only a phenomenal musician, composer and artist, but an incredibly intelligent, articulate and giving human being! Dom just knows how to bring out the best in people, and has become my favorite interviewer by far.
Oink been on to this cat since I was 16 years old back in the day in the bay area kudos thanks for the interview......and yes I was a old foster pig 🐷 myself thanks for sharing that ......but as you know when you connect as a foster pig that is also your family as well for life.....your 1st album was my main jam back in high school and beyond......you as well as Tony MacAlpine was in my view the black Yngwie shredders......thanks 😊 sir for all your chapters of way cool 😎 jams.
An interesting interview from the maestro himself. Lots of exciting point of view focusing on music at a very eclectic perspective. Greg is a really in a different ballpark between other "virtuoso". A master of his craft..
Thank god we got those HOWE albums though..I still listen to them regularly..🙏 HOWE band deserved bigger success ..and yes Instropection came out I was blown away by how addicted to it I got..Gregs best solo piece…so far…
Great interview. Been a fan of Greg since his first shrapnel record. Introspection is one of my favorite guitar solo albums ever till this day. If you haven’t heard it I highly recommend checking it out.
Maaaaan, this was top notch stuff. Best interview I've heard with Howe in years. Interesting questions asked, great answers, and just an enjoyable flow to the interview. I thought I knew all about the man (and sure enough, I have all his albums including Howe II), but turns out I sure as hell did not. Definitely will check out more from the channel!
Dom & Greg thanks another super artist I really enjoy Greg's playing and his albums combining rock and jazz styles. I think it is important to blend these two.
Great interview Dom. First time I heard Greg was from finding his album Five in 1996. Knew right away here was someone with his own tone, and would make it far in the business. I'm not "in the business" atm so to speak. But I've been playing since i was 12. And still have no plan B. lol
Great interview! By the way, if anyone wants to hear Greg breakdown certain Van Halen riffs, check his interview out with Dweezil Zappa on DZ's show, " Runnin' With The Dweezil. " Greg NAILS a lot of those early Van Halen licks.
I think young talented guitarists need mentorship. I was an yngie vinnie Moore shredder early in my life and still play and learn daily but never really knew what to do or where to go eg MI, or to produce songs, develop unique approaches, get exposure etc. those connections Greg made were incredibly important to getting opportunities and develop your playing. Obviously there is a lot more tech/online stuff out there today which helps.

What a humble virtuoso. I have always called this man, Greg Howe does he do it!?!
Greg Howe has always been on another level. THE guitarist other guitar players look up to. Introspection and Ascend is a must for any guitar player.
Agree . Also for me Uncertain Terms .
funny you mentioned Ascend- Greg himself said he's not a fan of that album.
Man you guys are sleeping so hard on his albums with Ritchie Kotzen
@@taLLdavid33 not me dude, i love Project. although Tilt is more popular from my experience
Agreed!

And this is why Greg has been my go to inspiration!
Greg is the GOAT! The album he did with Dennis Chambers is top-notch.
His albums with Ritchie Kotzen are my favorite. Everyone seems to miss those but there may very well be some of his best chops on those albums

This is *good* for the OX-5
Howe II High Gear is what Mr Big promised to be: front to back rip-snorting riffs, catchy choruses and face-melting leads. Horribly overlooked.
Does Greg Howe age?
Be creative on one string,Paul Gilbert said same..there maybe something to this?🤔
Yo🎃
You have to block out other peoples opinions. B plans are a musicians biggest enemy.
