      Thank you so much for watching my video. If you don't mind me asking, do you remember what it was like playing the role of Fred, having to wear the makeup and glove? As well, how were you selected for the role?

      @@ItsMusicVideoTime hi sorry for the late response been busy. I was a 6'4 dancer and my friend Jay suggested I be seen. Will Smith was surprisingly tall plus they wanted someone who could move well. Driven to NJ to have my head covered in plaster while breathing thru a straw to make the mask. Next day driven to queens ny to shoot on sound stage. Met Scott the director, Will, Jeff and a big entourage who was just hanging.. Everyone totally professional and made sure I was comfortable.. Fun shoot for two long days. A few story board pics.

      Tried to add a few original storyboard pics but I think TH-cam want allow or I didn't see the option.. 👍🏿

      That sounds like a really wonderful experience. Maybe not so much about making a head plaster. I don't think you can send pictures through TH-cam comments so you could try messaging me on Twitter or Instagram if you have an account on those sites.

    For decades this was a MANDELA EFFECT for so many of us... When they finally acknowledged it as existing and uploaded it officially to TH-cam in its entiriety, I was floored.

    • @ragabashmoon1551
      @ragabashmoon1551 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To clarify, I swear this was aired at least once on VH1 maybe, because I KNOW I saw it and I recorded it on a VHS tape, but like many it was lost or recorded over, hence the Mandela Effect.

    It might not be the greatest music video of all time but damn, the practical effects, the set, the juicy halloween lighting... there was a lot of love put into this.

    This is going to be one of the deepest mysteries in music. Absolute fantastic job on your deep search into this obscure piece of the Nightmare on Elm Street series. The fact it also became a top 20 hit is even more mind blowing, but that's the 80s for you.

  • @Flickerattacker
    @Flickerattacker 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Not to add to the confusion/mystery, but I swear (and this isn't a Mandela effect thing) that I saw this video on MuchMusic (Canada's version of MTV) when "He's the DJ and I'm the Rapper" came out. The reason I know I didn't imagine this is because I've never listened to or owned that album, nor did I ever listen to radio at the time, yet I knew the song because I had seen the video when I was a teen. Over the years I would occasionally do a search for it on TH-cam, invariably surprised that a clip by someone as famous as Will Smith couldn't be found. I assumed it must be because of some legal issue, which seemed weird because it had made it to MuchMusic at least once for me to have seen and remembered it. And this isn't a case of my mind making up a video, because now that it's out it's definitely 100% the video I had seen and had been searching for. So, my guess is that copies of the video did manage to get released to non-U.S. outlets, like Much (which was famous at the time for having the largest music video library in the entire world) and that's where you can probably source the appearance of it today.

    • @ItsMusicVideoTime
      @ItsMusicVideoTime  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maybe it did end up on MuchMusic, but without any fanfare. It would be interesting to see that be the case.

      As an American who had Much on my satellite package in the 90s, I'll say they definitely aired a whole LOT of videos MTV never touched. It certainly wouldn't shock me if they aired this video in the late 80s, possibly before ever catching wind of the legal kerfuffle. And chances are, New Line might not have even noticed what a Canadian music station was playing. Interesting story, for sure!

      I'm Canadian and grew up watching MuchMusic. I also swear I saw it on there in the 90s because I knew about it and you're right it was hard to find which seemed weird because I didn't know all this legal stuff until right now. I didn't own any Fresh Prince and Dj Jazzy Jeff's albums.

    Weird... I was thinking about this song at work today, it being Oct. (time of posting), and I didn't search for it I just saw a thumbnail for Jeff's Vevo on my TH-cam homepage. I loved this song since it dropped as a kid and swore til just about 20 min. I saw it before, but I don't think I did because it's only been visible since 5 years ago. There are things that I think I remember, one being that it was part of a soundtrack, Freddy being in it (it must've been the Fat Boys, but as much as I was a fan of theirs, I don't remember their song), but it's probably a "Mandela Effect" thing. However, I must've only watched the video once... today! While watching, wondering if there was a history of the video, and I looked over and saw this thumbnail... wtf? However I got here, I am grateful either way, thanks.

    Got recommended your videos on Yes and Dog Police, liked them and stayed for more. Pretty interesting story here. I had no idea any of these two videos existed, nor I knew about Fat Boys group... that name feels like something out of Idiocracy.

    It's a shame too bc this would've been a better rap song to include in one of the films... I remember this track on many of those cheap Halloween cassettes you used to find at random stores in the 90s.

    "My name is Freddy and I'm here to say"... Yikes. Freddy's bitin' rhymes from Barney Rubble in a Fruity Pebbles commercial from 1985.

    It's clear that Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff had the video all these years, but they just didn't want to get in legal hot water all over again with New Line Cinema, so they made up these stories that they didn't have the video anymore... However, when they saw that it had already been leaked on TH-cam, DJ Jazzy Jeff went ahead and uploaded it.

      That and once the Craven Estate regained the North American rights to the franchise New Line lost standing in the matter. My guess is Jonathan Craven doesn't feel like pursuing a 30 year old civil case against a defunct rap group over a franchise he seems pretty lukewarm on keeping relevant in cinema.

    The Fat Boys production was ingenious. Juxtapositioning in the extreme. The song was bone chilling and very complex. My street was little more than corney fun.

    Is the footage of them performing the song from Blackpool, UK 2017 or 18? I was there if so! 🎉

    After watching the Fat Boys video, I can say New Line 100% backed the wrong video. The Nightmare on My Street is a better track as well. It's a shame it got buried in favor of the Fat Boys video.
