    High-quality operation you're running there, mate. Thanks for coming through with the goods! Comment to Coffmans - change the cheap exhaust clip and screws from silver to black, and if you can get your logo in white or silver (instead of red), it's more in keeping with the look and looks more custom.

      Just saw a manufacturer comment on the Amazon listing: they updated the mounting hardware last week. All black and no exterior bolt.

      Coffman's Exhaust heard all of your comments! Now all of the current Shorty and Thunder exhausts come with black ceramic-coated stainless-steel clamps instead of the polished SS clamp seen in this video. You can also request a nameplate delete if you don't like the red Coffman's logo on the exhaust. Just request "no nameplate" on your order, and they'll be happy to oblige. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Evidently, the bracket that braces the stock exhaust pipe is not removable. That's kind of a deal killer for short pipe mods for this bike. That bracket is ugly.

    • @QuasiMotard

      Agreed! I will be installing the passenger footpegs on my bike, so it won't be too much of a visual nuisance to me. I probably won't ride with a passenger often (or ever), but I'll use the footpegs and brackets to secure my drybags on the back seat/rack. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    What makes the Coffman shorty worth $200 more than the GP shorty? I ran the GP on my CTX700 for 4 yrs with NO issues. I just bought the Rebel 1100 & was going that same route, but wanted to check on some alternatives. However, most of the slip-ons are priced too high for what you get. So again...what does an additional $200 get you? So far I don't see that price justified vs the GP...but I'd love to hear a valid counter argument for the extra expense.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! The biggest difference is that the Coffman's exhausts are made from stainless steel (with a CNC machined billet aluminum end cap), and then ceramic coated for a durable color finish. I've had the Coffman's Shorty on my CB500F for over 6 years and 15K miles, and it still looks and sounds like new (never rebuilt or repacked).
      The GP Shorty is made from cheaper steel, covered with regular high-temp paint, so they tend to rust and lose their finish coating very quickly. I've spoken and ridden with two owners (Rebel 1100 and CTX700) that showed me the rust and degradation after just a few months of use of the GP.
      Secondly... all of Coffman's exhausts are made in the USA (Ukiah, CA) vs the non-domestic GP (Chinese?). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @mateoreid
      @mateoreid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@QuasiMotard Valid points..but the materials used still don't justify $300 for what amounts to a foot long metal tube. USA made still won't justify an egregious mark up in my book. I had my GP for 4 years here in the Dallas area & never saw any signs of degradation. I'm sure areas where it's colder & they salt the roads sure...or perhaps even high humidity areas farther south you may see those issues you mentioned. Still..for $60 you could buy 3 GP's & still have money left to burn & just replace the pipes every couple of years. 😜 Anyway..I appreciate the quick response & also the great content you offer on your channel. Keep it up & stay safe out there!!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No adjustments were needed! The catalyst is in the exhaust mid-pipe, so the Coffman's slip-on exhaust doesn't drastically affect the airflow or cause the engine to run lean. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Can you tell me how this affects the passengers foot?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Coffman's Shorty is far below the passenger footpeg, and the exhaust outlet is aimed outward (not upward). It shouldn't cause any problems for a passenger other than being noisier than the OEM exhaust. Even with the increased volume levels, it's not as loud as most Harleys or other big-twin cruisers. 😉👍 --QM

  • @SololaneMvlog
    @SololaneMvlog ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just got mine. Do you need absolutely to drill ? It doesn’t stay on without it?! Thanks

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YES! Definitely drill the rivet hole because the Coffman's Shorty doesn't have any other positive retention mechanism. The OEM exhaust and the Coffman's Thunder have an upper bolt that attaches to the passenger footpeg bracket... that prevents the exhaust from "backing off" if the lower exhaust clamp loosens over time. The rivet on the Shorty ensures that it doesn't get launched off the bike when you least expect it.
      Congrats on your Rebel and the Coffman's shorty! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Thanks for the feedback! I had several viewer requests for dB readings on this exhaust, but I didn't have a decent SPL meter in my toybox. So, it was time to get another toy... problem solved! The Rebel 1100's motor is really torquey... lots of fun to play with.
      I took it out later that weekend to do some performance runs with my Dragy GPS. The best 0-60 acceleration time was 3.84s in 180.4 feet, and the best 60-0 braking time was 3.04 sec in 130.2 feet.
      I think it can do better if the traction control doesn't interfere on acceleration...maybe down in the 3.4 - 3.6 sec range. I'm not sure if I can get better braking distance without upgrading to some better pads (EBC HH or similar). Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't heard the Coffman's for the smaller bikes yet, so I can't comment on the sound or performance. However, if the build quality of those are equal to these slip-ons, then I'd say they are excellent! These exhausts are made with ceramic coated stainless-steel, and they hold up very well. The one on my Honda CB500F is over 5 yrs old and it still looks and performs like new.
      I hope to work with Coffman's again in July to develop an exhaust for the Honda Super Cub. I think it will sound great, and it should be similar to the Grom and Monkey exhausts... just different head pipe angles & length and a hangar bracket on the swingarm pivot . Cheers! 👍 --QM

      No power differences that I can feel so far. The catalytic converter is still in the midpipe, so the difference in backpressure should be negligible. • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the feedback! Slip-on exhausts like the Coffman's Shorty don't remove the catalytic converter, so there isn't a drastic change in backpressure or airflow through the engine that could cause an overly-lean condition.
      As far as I'm aware, it doesn't affect the manufacturer's warranty (at least in the USA), and it won't adversely affect the engine's longevity. On the plus side, there is a considerable weight loss (about 10 pounds)... and that awesome sound! 😉👍 --QM

We should be able to extract a few more ponies from this motor and also remove the speed nanny at the 100 MPH mark. You can see the dB measurements for the stock exhaust at 7:01 and for the Coffman's Shorty at 14:03. The OEM exhaust registered 83 dBA at idle, and the Coffman's registered 87 dBA. At 4100 RPM, the OEM registered 97.7 dBA and the Coffman's registerd 102.5 dBA. So, there is about a 4-5 dB increase with the Coffman's Shorty. Do you have to run a tune after?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not absolutely necessary, but I plan to re-flash the bike sometime in the near future. Slip-on exhausts like the Coffman's Shorty don't remove the catalytic converter from the factory exhaust (it's further upstream in the mid-pipe), so there isn't a huge difference in airflow or backpressure that might cause a lean condition.
      I plan to upgrade the intake sometime in the future and possibly get a full exhaust (cat-delete). That will certainly require a custom tune to prevent running too lean (hot). DynoJet and other performance tuners are working on flash tunes now... I'm just waiting to see who comes to market first. I'm also hoping that the tune deletes the 100 MPH speed-limiter. 😉👍 --QM

A full exhaust system will delete the cat, so a re-flash or fuel computer will be necessary. Slip-on mufflers retain the cat, so the engine is less likely to run lean. --QM

    Every 3 decibels = twice as loud. So, revving out, it's now (+9 Db)16 times louder than before. Great for annoying everyone.
