  • The paternoster rig is the bee’s knees of fishing rigs and should be one of the first you learn to tie. It can be used in a wide range of situations, in both fresh and saltwater, making it one of the most widely used rigs across the globe.
Great for both casting and bottom bashing, the rig is just as vital for surf casters in relatively shallow water as it is for bottom bashers out in the deep blue. Also, with the ability to form the paternoster rig with two droppers, anglers have the opportunity to use two kinds of bait on the one rig, doubling their chances of catching fish and/or different species on the one cast.
Hooks can either be looped over with the dropper loop, or the droppers can be cut to form a longer leader length.
For the beginners out there; get this baby down pat and you're in the money.

Thank you. What are your thoughts on 4 or 5 hooks instead of 2?
When you're not getting a lot of bites... maybe using multiple types of baits too to attract more?

Hey Sammy, I put a short piece of lighter breaking strain line, with a loop at each end to attach to the main sinker loop. This makes it easier to bust the sinker off when snagged, works a treat.

sammy i used this one for a while now but found out it was breaking a lot because knot puts load on line and stretches and breaks

I’ll try this next time but I usually do it the way you did the sinker but cut the top bit of line then use a blood knot to tie the hook an sinker on hopefully this increase my fish hook up more instead of loosing my bait to little suckers an get the big ones

Would a smaller version of this knot be good for beach fishing with a spinning reel? I'm in N.E. Fl. U.S. We just finished our last fall run of pompano.

just advice the sinker and hook lines should be swapped, around . the main line and hook should be straight on the same swivel.

I've bought pre-rigged ones and the loog is twisted and it keeps the dropper hanging out stiff and it doesn't foul on the main line. No idea how they get the twist to hold, probably machine made.
