Most of us Dallas Cowboys Fans want a RB with the 1st pick...but me...I want Darnell Washington with the 1st pick...he's a beast at TE/6th OL I've seen at his position in a long time! Monster weapon for Dak and a very rare player!
If you look, both Bowers and Washington often played in the same snaps. UGA seemed to do plays with two TEs on quite a few occasions. Bowers was their receiving focused TE. Washington was their blocking focused TE. This setup seemed to work quite well for them.
Not really a backup, Georgia just made the 12 personnel set their mainstay because no team could dream to match up with Washington and Bowers at the same time. They are both unicorns, it was a privilege to get to watch them take the field together last season.

Yes ! He provides the provincial aspects in A promise in becoming that tight end. But as A Steelers fan, hopefully, He can be that beast of two guys to put our offense to different level.

Probably around pick #50 or later. If you've run the mocks you know that his positional value displaces him a bit. With his ranking in the class he is surrounded by top tier DL and OL prospects, not to mention your top 3 LBs will likely go in the 2nd as well as at least two RBs and at least 2 WRs...I get the vision,yeah it'd be awesome to have an extra OT on the line who can also catch well enough to keep the defense honest. I really dont think he goes first round though. We're he in last years draft he may have been one of the first TEs off the board.

I'd draft this guy in the mid to late 20's of the first round as a RT alone. Go big set and run the ball against anyone. The pass catching IMHO vaults Washington easily among the top 15 players in the draft. Randy Moss-like at the TE position.
His numbers aren’t great because he say behind the best TE in college football and he played a power blocking / seem route role and did very good at it. He did everything the coaches asked of him to win the natty and I believe he can have a more productive in the league as a TE1
Patriots at 14, Bill O’Brien wants that double TE with Hernandez and Gronk again. He could have that with Washington and Gesicki. Let Henry play out his contract and you got that youngest nastiest TE Duo. That’s history Repeating itself. Just without the serial killer thing. Draft Darnell at 14 then Draft Flowers at 46 and trade for Jonah Williams to fill that LT spot. Boom Offense is back to being explosive.

Athletically he's a unicorn but I have my doubts as to how effective he can be as a receiver. Everyone is bigger and faster at the NFL level especially defenders, and for as athletic as he is it's not like he made a bunch of plays at Georgia or jumped off the tape as a dominant player. He was just one of the guys on the field, and usually when he got the ball it was on a wide open checkdown and he proceeded to rumble for a few yards and got tackled. He's not a good route runner, doesn't seem to shed tacklers all that well or have any shake to his game whatsoever, and has slow, lumbering feet that severely limit his YAC potential. He does have solid to good hands, however his movement skills make him a protypical BLOCKING TE. Exactly how valuable is that in today's game? Some team that wants to run the ball will overdraft him in the 2nd, however what they'll be left with is an extra OT that can kinda get out in space, maybe be an additional red zone mismatch from time-to-time.

He's not a unicorn because his change of direction is terrible.. He is a good blocker, vertical seem threat, and red one target. But a unicorn is someone who can do it all at that size
What else he supposed to do to be a unicorn? For they type of TE he’s going be he’s the perfect unicorn he more of a blocking td that can actually beat you on routes, body you the the end zone, he’s perfect for 2 point conversions, a player like this can have the Steelers really open up their playbook and get creative big time unicorn.
