    @nativeinstruments it isn't too late to bring back Maschine compatibility to your flagship controller. Why wouldn't you want your two most important hardware controllers to be 100% compatible?

    • @MixWorkRecordings
      @MixWorkRecordings ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I really hope they answer that question honestly and not give some more BS again like no one was using it with Maschine

    • @NativeInstruments

      Kontrol S MK2 is still actively supported, so nothing has been removed for existing customers. Such integration was de-prioritized for Kontrol S MK3 simply because 1) very few people were using it and 2) the presence of the buttons was causing significant confusion for a majority of users who are non-Maschine users. Kontrol S Mk3 has a bigger screen, an on-device rendering engine, and is far more capable and open. We may bring back such integrations in future (albeit without dedicated buttons) but there aren't plans to do so at this time, hence the commitment to continue to support MK2

    • @dreG450
      @dreG450 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @nativeinstruments thank you for replying, but forgetting about the S series mk 2, it seems like you've made a new product that your existing maschine customers can't use. Is there a way to get more information on what happens when Maschine mk3 and Kontrol mk3 are being used in the Maschine 2 software? Do the keyboard and chord modes from Maschine transpose to the Kontrol mk3 keyboard? Or does it just become like any other midi controller when Komplete Kontrol isn't being used in Maschine (because it doesn't have to be, when working with Maschine workflow)?

    • @MrVuvu
      @MrVuvu ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I must say that I saw this coming. Remember DAW scripts were removed after the maschine mk2 launch and maschine doesn't integrate with komplete kontrol within third-party DAWs.

      @@MrVuvui have Maschines mk3 and not having integration with KK was huge disappointment. I love my mk3 but I really want to use KK library with ableton and have control over the KK library but that was not possible I tried having 8 maschine tracks on ableton and the device will only respond to 1 track only. I grew out of maschine software very quickly and I'm ln ableton 11 suite which is way more capable. However Komplete keyboard did work on both KK and Maschines which was a surprise I have the small M32 which works fine for both. I'm really scratching my head here. After extensive testing I also found that the plug in controls on the maschine mk3 and M32 to be randomly limited and doesn't give you full control over their plug ins. There is always something missing and sometimes arranged randomly over 16 pages which make me believe why it got new look now as groups like Filter/FX/etc.
      The touch screen could solve all the problems since some KK instruments have built in sequencer and advanced other features which can only be control by a mouse.
      Without touch screen and extra assignable buttons its impossible to solve this problem for Kontrol mk3.
      I love NI but I'm very disappointed.

    General question: for those of us who are Maschine users this new model is a step backwards from the MK2 models. If we get the previous model are going to end up with a brick eventually? Or will support continue?

    • @DirtyJokesFan
      @DirtyJokesFan ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I am no pro by any means but from the reviews I’ve seen so far the MK3 has removed certain transport buttons that mirrored what is on the Maschine hardware, and the patterns/scenes workflow on the screen is currently not implemented. This could change of course.
      NI has their reasons for these changes moving forwards and it is completely their right to do so. I’m just not keen to buy the MK2 if it will not be supported beyond a certain point in the near future.

    • @TheOnlyMichaelJames
      @TheOnlyMichaelJames ปีที่แล้ว +20

      With MK2 you can effectively create patterns, jump through scenes and load in sounds without touching the computer. I have the M32 and S88. I can make loops without touching the Maschine hardware or computer. It's a major loss in my eyes. The lack of Maschine integration is one of my main reasons for not buying the MK3.

    No faders? Aargh! I like the new screen and controls, but no faders in your flagship midi controller? There's certainly plenty of room for them. I don't think polyphonic aftertouch is worth giving up faders. (Pots are a terribly awkward tool for mixing) This missing feature has me looking at other controllers instead and hoping Arturia doesn't make the same mistake that I think you've unfortunately made with this otherwise excellent mk3 controller.

    • @MixWorkRecordings
      @MixWorkRecordings ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Agreed, I’m extremely aggravated with these companies that keep putting out half baked products. Instead of listening to actual users they’ll listen to reviewers.

  • @davepanrios
    @davepanrios ปีที่แล้ว +13

    NI missed a really simple trick for faders, and it would have been a killer feature.
    Instead of physical sliders, you use several of the touch bars with the LED that you have next to the pitch wheel.
    Position them vertically, as each sound is loaded, the LEDs for each “fader” lights to show its current setting.
    You now have software faders.
    You could even have the LED for each fader chance colour to match the setting shown on the screen.
    That would echo the design of the lights for the keys.

    • @MS7.7
      @MS7.7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That does exist called " maschine jam". They could just bring the touch faders and make it 10x better I agree.

    • @NativeInstruments
      @NativeInstruments  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To forgo both pads and faders was an intentional design decision. Your suggestion is certainly a valid one, but we chose not to increase the component cost, and MSRP any further, which niche features like pads and faders would have done. There are a lot of good products that include such features. Kontrol S MK3, as with previous generations, is focused on instrument integration and expressivity.

    I love all the new useful features (screen, poly aftertouch, redesigned user interface, moving the touch strip). The light guide feels very similar with Mk2 to me - if it ain’t broke. I don’t care for touchscreen or standalone mode so I’m happy with their absence. However we’ve lost the maschine specific buttons and a group of LEDs was added around the browse encoder. What purpose do these extra lights serve other than increasing costs? I thought the point of hardware controllers was for a more hands on experience. Just as a side note, Apple replaced useful ports with two thunderbolt port years ago only to bring those legacy ports back later

    • @NativeInstruments

      Thank you for the feedback! We're definitely excited about the new features.
      We're also excited about the further improvements we plan to build, including but not limited to one popular request: Play Assist on-device (meaning, it runs on the keyboard as a MIDI generative instrument, and is not reliant on Komplete Kontrol). The LEDs around the encoder will be multi-purpose, for some deeper DAW integrations, future Play Assist improvements, and so on.

I already know the standard NI reply "oh maschine is supposed to be blah blah". Maschine used to have scripts for third party DAWs. Nope, still not ... Sorry NI, but I'm keeping my Novation 61SL Mk3 ... The only thing I like in this one is the poly aftertouch (but I don't need it as I own an Osmose), and the direct Kontakt integration, but I can live without it, as I'm used to it since the very first release of it. I prefer having a more "opened to the world" and flexible midi controller with a lot of "controls" actually, such as faders (which are way better for controlling midi CC's IMO than knobs, pads (great for triggering key switches in my case), and CV Pitch, Gate, and Mod outputs .... All I see here, is NI just wanting to lock you up in their ecosystem even more. Although I'm using Kontakt every day, I've created a ton of presets on my SL Mk3 in order to control all my Kontakt Instruments and other synths and plugins, as it's super simple to do in the SL ... Anyway, I had a lot of hope on this one, even thought it would make me sell my Novation, because after all these years since the MK2 release, I thought they would come out something more innovative and/or at least getting up with the competition, but nope ... so I'm keeping and loving my Novagtion even more and for the years to come ... or until a Mk4 ... maybe (?) :)

    I really wish the manual was already out, it's great that you can stack Kontakt instruments, but what would be really useful personally is if it's possible to get multi instruments in Kontakt with separate MIDI channels for setting up orchestral libraries etc. to react to the light guide for that particular instrument, i.e. when you select the instrument in Kontakt does the MK3 show the key-switch setup for that particular instrument? With the new built in MIDI controller assigning for the knobs and buttons, is it only one patch? are there multiple MIDI controller Templates like in the Komplete Kontrol plugin? or is it still that there is one template for the hardware and to change it you need to use the Komplete Kontrol app?

I don't know why they call this keyboard Komplete Kontrol when you have even less control with it than with other less expensive keyboards. I see a lot of missed opportunity here. Like if there was no real effort to innovate, to ideate, to get more creative with the new design and functions, to really earn the title "Komplete Kontrol". Imagine my confusion after years away, and finding a video, ON THIS CHANNEL, about Maschine Integration with the MK2, to find that Native Instruments is already removing support to Maschine with the Mk3 of their keyboard line. I had to return a mk3 keyboard to buy an mk2 for Maschine intergration. That's ridiculous. Soon as they get Native Access actually working and not a lawsuit ready to pop, they start killing their own program's compatibility. What a baffling decision.

    People are mad this does not support Maschine. Yet you have to understand NI is a plug in company, not a hardware company like Akai. NI started off with the FM plug in. Its Maschine was just a way to get customers to use its plug ins. Ni never wanted to compete with Akai . This keyboard is just NI getting back to its original focus. The hardware here of course is crap; but the focus is on NI plug ins. If you want hardware and software integration for beat making, get a MPC X and a MPC Keys.

      If that was the case they shouldn’t have put out the maschine plus. The maschine was the best thing that came out of native instruments. That’s what made them relevant.

    DAW integration with many DAW's but none for their own Maschine software. Typical NI, where the bean counters who never used any of the products make the decisions.

    • @NativeInstruments
      @NativeInstruments  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's not how it is here - the products are designed and built by passionate and creative people like you. That doesn't mean they're designed and built for every single use case - Maschine integration was deprioritized as very few users ever used it with Kontrol S MK2, and the buttons confused a lot of other users. Certainly, we could bring back the software integration at some point if there was enough critical mass.

      @@NativeInstrumentsthe only thing worse than dropping this board that has alienated many users that wanted new features would be if you drop a standalone board in their face shortly thereafter. If any of those customers decide to alter their workflow to get along with the Mk3, you basically would be confirming the MK3 was a lazy cash grab and leaving them with a vastly depreciated paperweight. I really hope you haven’t sunk this low.

    Why no faders or transport control in 2023?
    Always so much empty/wasted space on these keyboards since version 1..
    They are super-wide for no reason, and the 88 will NOT fit on most desks - (the pitch & mod controls could easily be placed ABOVE the keyboard to save space, like the AKAI MPK88).
    This just seems like a very lazy reproduction of old hardware with minimal PHYSICAL control features that are much needed in 2023.

      As with the prior generations, Kontrol S MK3 is an expressive and deeply integrated instrument controller - a focus many users love. Certainly, there exist products with faders, and they're good too! We'd encourage you to buy and use whatever product makes the most sense for your needs.
      Of course, the Kontrol S MK3 DAW integration still includes dedicated buttons for standard transport functions, and a fully functional mixer page for volume, pan, mute and solo.

      We collaborated closely with our users in the development of the S-Series Kontrol MK3. 🙂 Check out this article on MusicTech for more details: bit.ly/49x1h9H

    • @roberthollander4522
      @roberthollander4522 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I read the article. It says: “there’s been some alignment with the Maschine team. That’s your internal developers. Not users. It also says Native watches the forums for input. Really? Were there multiple posts titled “I really wish the next Komplete Keyboard would drop Maschine support?” 😂
      “The interesting part of our strategy is we were starting to see the synergy between the two product lines. Back then, we were two different divisions but the two products shared a lot of architecture. They shared a lot of modules, and they were also released at the same time with a lot of the same hardware components from a tech stack perspective; same displays, and methods of doing things”
      Then in the next paragraph it says you’re not going to be integrating Maschine into it for “efficiency”.
      “However, the two product families are unlikely to be unified any time soon - at least not that Chris could reveal. “No, we’re not going to blend the products. We’ll continue to invest and create value for each of the pillars. It’s more of an efficiency thing; we’re working in a focused manner and also with a well-thought-out architecture which means we can move quicker. In the past, it’s been very difficult because there was a siloed approach - it was very hard to converge. I would say we’re not going to blend the products because each has its loyal followings and use cases.”
      So, again; I ask you: did you ACTUALLY collaborate with or get the INPUT from your customers? No. This reads EXACTLY as it sounds: you want maschine users to buy Maschine hardware, only. But a lot of maschine users are KEYBOARD PLAYERS and use both devices. Now one of them can’t work with Maschine . Totally ridiculous.
      I’m sorry to sound so dramatic but I (and im sure many many others) have spent a fortune on your ecosystem and use the keyboard as a primary controller for Maschine…and now we can’t move forward with you and are stuck with a discontinued mk2 keyboard that soon we won’t even be able to buy new if ours breaks. Maybe you’ll find a way to integrate the two.
      There’s definitely a market for it.
