Without getting too deep into details and other rules…. In American football the team with the ball has 4 plays to make as many yards as possible. If that team can make at least 10 yards, they get another 4 plays. If they fail to get 10 yards, the other team gets the ball where it’s at. If the team doesn’t want to risk not making the 10 yards on their fourth play, they have the option to kick the ball (called a punt) to the other team which will hopefully put them much farther away from your goal line. The 10 yards is measured by chains. Sometimes it is so close that it is hard to tell so the chains are used to measure which was what was shown in the video.
And that measurement for the Michigan v s Carolina game was an absolutely terrible call, but clowney made that beautiful hit on the next play and took the game out of the refs hands
You left out field goals... If you get close enough to your opponents goal line, but not in the end zone for a touchdown, on 4th down you can attempt to kick a field goal. The kicks you were seeing blocked were field goal attempts which are 3 points. Touchdown is 6 points, with an extra point short "field goal" for 1 point or run one play from the 2 yard line for 2 points called a two point conversion.
The design of the first down marker (chain plus diameter of the marker itself) does not allow the marker to be placed directly next to the ball which leads to controversy when it is less than 1 inch one way or the other. It is then all about angles and a judgement call. This was lead to many decisions like this such as the infamous notecard measurement being used to try to tell if the ball was short or not. This was just another example of a very close call. Happens every year. No ref was paid off.
American football you have 4 downs to gain 10 yards. On the 4th down if you didn't get it you have the option to punt the ball to the other team or you can keep ball to run another play. If you don't get the yards you need then the other team gets ball. The downs reset once you gain 10 yards. If you lose yards on a play now you have to add the yards you lost to the 10 yards you have to gain. Example 1st and 10. You lose 5 yards then the next play would be 2nd and 15
Clowney at 3:30 was an absolute monster. One of the hardest hits from a D-lineman I've ever seen. He was the first pick in the NFL draft if memory serves.
The downs in football are plays. A team has four plays or downs to pick up ten yards and get another four downs. The first play of a possession starts at 1sr and 10, or first down with ten yards to go. So if on the first play the team picks up three yards, the second play will be 2nd and 7, or second down with 7 yards to go. If they pick up 5 yards the third play will be 3rd and 2, or third down with two yards to go. If the team picks up 2 yards on that play they get another 4 downs and it starts at 1sr down and ten again. So as long as a team can pick up 10 yards every 4 plays they continue to possess the ball and move forward. Theoretically a team can pick up 4 yards per play and continue to hold the ball.
The vid where they were measuring where the ball was and the tackle where the guys helmet flew off are the same highlight. The red team thought they made a defensive stop, which would have resulted in a “turnover on downs.” The red team would have gained possession of the ball. Referees measured and decided the yellow team crossed the line and got to keep the ball. Red team felt they got cheated, very next play that huge tackle happened and the red team recovered the football and gained possession after all. In America we say “ball don’t lie” when stuff like that happens.

A lot of the games were championship games won on the last play thats why everyone is going crazy The band was on the field because they thought the game was over but they lost On the first down play the guy was short aka didnt make the first down but the referee gave it to them anyway..so the next play the guy hits him so hard that he funbles and loses his helmet
That was a first down, or at least too close to call. The play by Clowney that proceeded it was impressive, but I think is very overhyped. He was unblocked and hit a player that weighed 100lbs less than him. He is still a freak athlete though.
"Downs" are synonymous with "chances." You have 4 downs (chances) to advance 10 yards. If you advance 10 yards, you receive a new set of 4 more downs to advance another 10 yards. If you fail to advance 10 yards within your 4 downs, the other team gets the ball, and the same rules will apply to them.
American Football has some pretty simple basic Rules. 1) To score a Touchdown, you just have to get the forward most edge of the ball to cross the invisible vertical plane of the front side of the line of the Endzone. That's all. That's why you may see these diving plays from a few inches or teet out to just try to break that plane with the ball. You don't have to come down with the ball in hand to the ground at all. However, if it's a caught pass within the Endzone, both feet have to come down within that 10 yard by 55 yard area in order to be ruled an inbound completed pass. Same thing goes for passes anywhere else in the 100 yard by 55 yard field. A yard is just shy of a meter. It's .91 meters. But for estimates sake, we often just equate to two to being essentially the same. Bbut of course the more you go, the more inaccurate you'll be in distance calculations but with relatively short measurements, you can get away with equating the two. A football field is 55 yards wide, and is 100 yards long in the main playing area and each Endzone is 10 yards long as well. For a total of 120 yards x 55 yards. 2) Each team on Offense has 4 tries (or Downs) to get a First Down (a reset of the Downs) which is just 10 yards (30 ft). Doesn't seem like much, but when you got 11 guys on the opposite team trying to stop you, it's harder than it looks. If fact, you'll often see teams going 3 and out. But wait, i thought you said 4 Downs? Well yes, there's a special rule for the 4th Down. If you "go for it on 4th" and you don't make the necessary yardage, you have to turn the ball over to the other team whereever you were last touched down. So very often the team will choose to use the 4th Down to punt the ball away to hopefully force the other team a deeper starting position on their turn on offense. They can try to run a punt back for additional yardage, which is risky at best because this is where you'll often see fumbles or muffed (missed) catches and the kicking team may actually recover the punt as if it was a caught pass somewhere down the field, as long as the receiving team touched the ball somewhere. If they didn't, the ball is downed whereever the kicking team touched it and the receiving team takes over from there. 3) Fouls & penalties. There's obviously a bunch of Fouls that can occur while playing. And each are penalized by a range of 5, 10, 15, or spot of the foul if the foul was intentional (and that's very discretionary.) Defensive Pass Interference is the one where you not wanna get called sn intentional foul because you could be looking at a call that could net the offensive team neary the e tire field. But if the interference was accidental or unavoidable, they'll just call it a 15 yard penalty and an automatic First Down.

Great reaction! Couple things as I love watching these college football reactions that I tend to notice (and no fault of your own) Context is so important as to why all these plays were so big. For example, at 8:48, FSU @ GT. Florida State is trying to kick the game winning field goal (3 point) with 5 seconds left in the game. Georgia Tech blocks it and takes it back for a touchdown to claim the upset. FSU was 6-0 (so undefeated) heading into this game and GT was 2-5 (2 wins, 5 losses). Another example is the Texas-Texas Tech (TTU) game at 1:34. TTU scores with 1 second left. Texas basically has not shot to win. It’s not just a big deal because of the upset but also because of context for the championship. In college football, the teams only play 12 regular season games. If you lose even 1 your chance to make the 4 team playoff (2014-2023) is greatly diminished. Moving forward (2024-on) they are moving to a 12-team playoff which will allow more room for error but seeding will be greatly important and only the top 4 conference champions will earn a 1st round bye. From 1997-2013, the champion was determined by the BCS system and only the Top 2 ranked teams played for a championship. So in a game like GT-FSU, not only is it a big upset, but it can be the difference between a team competing for a National Championship or not
Only one forward pass can be made per play and that pass also has to be at or behind the line of scrimmage (where the play starts). Any player can throw a pass, but it's the quarterback doing it 99.9% of the time. All of the laterals (backwards passes) you saw were plays at the end of the game after time had already expired, so teams will do everything they can to keep the play going and score if they are down by 8 points or less (touchdown is 6 - kick after a touchdown is called an extra point is worth 1 - a 2 point conversion is an optional choice instead of an extra point kick attempt if 2 points are preferred or needed... Teams almost always choose to kick since it's mostly automatic for them unless 2 points are needed or the coach has an aggressive mindset: hence, the "8 points or less"). Also, as someone has already said, you have to pay attention to the time and score of the game to get context of why the plays were exciting. Some of the game clips were also big or playoff/national championship games.
You said your team can head butt them away--it is called "blocking" and it is a high-skill activity with strict rules. It is one of the many things (such as passing the ball--which is unique to any similar sport) that distinguish this game from other sports. Blocking schemes on designed plays are highly complex requiring precise timing and technique. As you get into to sport, you will encounter what I mean.
4 downs, others have explained it well enough. I just wanted to point out that you can punt the ball away on any down, and you can attempt a field goal on any down. It just usually doesn't make sense to do so except on 4'th downs. There are plenty of games where the offense is up against the clock for halftime with a possession swap coming, or the end of the game, where a field goal is attempted on earlier downs. Clock management is absolutely *vital* to the game, even to the point where a runner turning sideways to run along the end zone and taking five seconds before crossing the plane can be a game saving decision. Once a play is snapped it runs until it's done, no matter where the game clock is... so if you're up less than a goal and you've left a few seconds on the clock with a change in possession, in theory your opponent has enough time to score a touchdown and beat you. If you haven't taken the game definitively (more than 8 points up) there's always a chance to have it taken away unless that game clock hits zero with no play running.
Texas A & M University = Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University. Students there are known as Texas Aggies. Some of their students join the "Corps" (pronounced core, but means body) of cadets. The Corps are taught much like the non Corps ("non reg") students, but have opted for military training which upon their graduation may qualify them for an offer of an officer's commission (2nd Lieutenancy) from a branch of the U.S. Military. What you saw was the Aggie band marching, and then the Corps of Cadets joining them on field to form a letter "T."
On That Lateral Play, The Reason They Had To Keep Passing The Ball Backwards Is Because When They Received The Kick The Offensive Player 1st Did The Lateral, So You Have To Continue It Until They Cross The Line With The Ball Where They Ist Recieved The Kick 👍
The hit at 2:44 was prominent in that South Carolina should have been awarded the ball on downs. Michigan was short of the mark to gain and shouldn't have kept the ball. Clowney's hit caused a fumble and gave the ball back to South Carolina. Justice served.
Three things to look for as you encounter a game in progress--the score, the quarter (of 4) they are playing and the time remaining in that quarter, who has the ball relative to the score and the "down and distance"--what down of 4 is it and what is the distance to get a "first down" , i.e., a new set of 4 downs to continue your offensive drive to score. The game is best thought of as a chess match played by world class athletes. The offense players in the NFL typically have to learn 200 to 300 plays that can have variations on each (though teams don't always use anywhere near that many during a season, but they are there. The defense has to counter the plays with formations and strategy and of course, incredible athleticism. You might want to watch one of the basic videos on rules of American football to get a good start.
So when the ball hits the ground... it is downed. You have 4 downs to move 10 yards. If you fail to do so the ball is given to the opposing team at the spot of the final down. Repeat. If you make the 10 yards y the 4th down, it resets and you get 4 more downs to move 10 more yards. A ball going out of bounds counts as a down. A team can throw it to a receiver who has run to mid or down field. They can hand it off to a runner who will try to sneak through or around the blockers. If they are on theor last down they can also choose to kick it down field to put the opposition as far as possible from scoring. That's it in a nutshell really. Your body can be in the air and entirely off the field. As long as the ball stays in bounds, off the ground and crossed the goal line you score. I've seen players to full on flips over defenders, or jump high and backwards to catch and fall into the end zone. It can get crazy.
Players cannot headbutt each other, but what you are referring to is blocking. Blocking is one of the most key fundamentals of the game, with different rules on what is allowed, and occurs on every play. American football is my favorite sport because it requires exceptional athleticism as well as being the most complex and strategic sport in the world. Teams have hundreds of plays, can create new ones to try to gain an advantage (various rule restrictions that the plays have to maintain) and play calling (what play to use and when) can be the difference in winning or losing.
You can make 1 forward pass as long as the ball has not passed the line where they all initially lined up at. Aside from that, you can make as many side ways passes (as long as the pass itself does not advance the ball) or backwards passes as you like.
Some more context for that first clip. Think of Michigan as the English National Team and Appalachia State as an American MLS squad (e.g., LA Galaxy). Teams like Michigan often schedule these tiny schools to get a warmup game in that they know they'll win. And the small school accepts the offer because they get paid millions to essentially go get beat by 50. So EVERYONE thought that's how this game would go. And App State thought differently.
You can only throw it forward beyond the line of scrimmage 1 time during the play and you can not be past the line lf scrimmage (the spot where the ball is snapped from to the quarterback) when throwing the ball.
That first one you showed was USC v Texas in 2007 (I think). One of the greatest games played. I'm sure some of these others were similar. If you would like, there are condensed versions that play the whole game in about 15 minutes. You can pass forward only once, after that or beyond the line of scrimmage it is only backward. The ball can only be passed forward one time, after a center snap. The ball can go backward until they run out of room. A receiver or runner who is downfield can pass it backward at any time. Never forward.
To score a try, the ball needs to touch down onto the ground. I would not be surprised if that's where the term touch down originates from in American football
When you are watching a college football game, the number is their ranking. Always root for the lesser ranked team, unless you really like the higher ranked team.

The one play where you didn't understand what happened, it was a fake punt (kick), they lined up as if they were going to punt the ball to the other team but ran it instead to pick up a first down meaning that they now have 4 for more plays with the ball to try and score.

In the NFL if a player is throwing as he crosses the line of scrimmage he's not considered to be beyond the line of scrimmage until both the ball, and his entire body cross the line of scrimmage. The best games are when an FCS team defeats an FBS teams (unless of course your team is the FBS). FBS are the big schools. FCS are the tiny schools. College football is changing before us with realignments in the FBS divisions.
Alright, so the South Carolina vs Michigan game, the Gamecocks (in maroon) were mad because Michigan (in yellow) were given the 1st down. If you look at the end of the ball in relation to the end of the chain, there is a gap, which means it is NOT a first down. First down means Michigan keeps the ball and keeps their drive to the end zone in play. 4th down means they turn over the ball on downs (Carolina gets the ball). The ref said Michigan had 1st down which they did not. The Gamecocks were understandably mad. On the next play, Big Boy (JD Clowney) decided he was gonna get the ball back his own way, hence that hit and the ball recovery. That hit and recovery helped Carolina to win. Clowney went on to become the #1 Overall Draft pick in the NFL in 2014.

The referees are part of the playing field they get in the way and 10 seconds later they're trying to get the license plate of the truck that just ran him over. Yeah y’all don’t have the context of why these plays are considered great. First two won the national championship. The 3rd one was the biggest upset in CFB history when Appalachian State beat Michigan at Michigan. Fans at other games across the nation were watching the end of that game on TV’s next to concession stands. If Michigan had made the FG, they would’ve won.
American football is a very situational sport compared to say soccer. In college football a player doing a certain thing can mean nothing or the whole game depending on the situation he does it in. I knew you guys weren’t ready for this video yet. It takes a certain level of understanding of the sport first.

Most of these rules are the same in college as well. A few minor differences.
The vid where they were measuring where the ball was and the tackle where the guys helmet flew off are the same highlight.
The red team thought they made a defensive stop, which would have resulted in a “turnover on downs.” The red team would have gained possession of the ball. Referees measured and decided the yellow team crossed the line and got to keep the ball. Red team felt they got cheated, very next play that huge tackle happened and the red team recovered the football and gained possession after all. In America we say “ball don’t lie” when stuff like that happens.

That was a first down, or at least too close to call. The play by Clowney that proceeded it was impressive, but I think is very overhyped. He was unblocked and hit a player that weighed 100lbs less than him. He is still a freak athlete though.
"Downs" are synonymous with "chances." You have 4 downs (chances) to advance 10 yards. If you advance 10 yards, you receive a new set of 4 more downs to advance another 10 yards. If you fail to advance 10 yards within your 4 downs, the other team gets the ball, and the same rules will apply to them.
American Football has some pretty simple basic Rules.
1) To score a Touchdown, you just have to get the forward most edge of the ball to cross the invisible vertical plane of the front side of the line of the Endzone. That's all. That's why you may see these diving plays from a few inches or teet out to just try to break that plane with the ball. You don't have to come down with the ball in hand to the ground at all. However, if it's a caught pass within the Endzone, both feet have to come down within that 10 yard by 55 yard area in order to be ruled an inbound completed pass. Same thing goes for passes anywhere else in the 100 yard by 55 yard field. A yard is just shy of a meter. It's .91 meters. But for estimates sake, we often just equate to two to being essentially the same. Bbut of course the more you go, the more inaccurate you'll be in distance calculations but with relatively short measurements, you can get away with equating the two. A football field is 55 yards wide, and is 100 yards long in the main playing area and each Endzone is 10 yards long as well. For a total of 120 yards x 55 yards.
2) Each team on Offense has 4 tries (or Downs) to get a First Down (a reset of the Downs) which is just 10 yards (30 ft). Doesn't seem like much, but when you got 11 guys on the opposite team trying to stop you, it's harder than it looks. If fact, you'll often see teams going 3 and out. But wait, i thought you said 4 Downs? Well yes, there's a special rule for the 4th Down. If you "go for it on 4th" and you don't make the necessary yardage, you have to turn the ball over to the other team whereever you were last touched down. So very often the team will choose to use the 4th Down to punt the ball away to hopefully force the other team a deeper starting position on their turn on offense. They can try to run a punt back for additional yardage, which is risky at best because this is where you'll often see fumbles or muffed (missed) catches and the kicking team may actually recover the punt as if it was a caught pass somewhere down the field, as long as the receiving team touched the ball somewhere. If they didn't, the ball is downed whereever the kicking team touched it and the receiving team takes over from there.
3) Fouls & penalties. There's obviously a bunch of Fouls that can occur while playing. And each are penalized by a range of 5, 10, 15, or spot of the foul if the foul was intentional (and that's very discretionary.) Defensive Pass Interference is the one where you not wanna get called sn intentional foul because you could be looking at a call that could net the offensive team neary the e tire field. But if the interference was accidental or unavoidable, they'll just call it a 15 yard penalty and an automatic First Down.

Great reaction! Couple things as I love watching these college football reactions that I tend to notice (and no fault of your own)
Context is so important as to why all these plays were so big. For example, at 8:48, FSU @ GT. Florida State is trying to kick the game winning field goal (3 point) with 5 seconds left in the game. Georgia Tech blocks it and takes it back for a touchdown to claim the upset. FSU was 6-0 (so undefeated) heading into this game and GT was 2-5 (2 wins, 5 losses).
Another example is the Texas-Texas Tech (TTU) game at 1:34. TTU scores with 1 second left. Texas basically has not shot to win.
It’s not just a big deal because of the upset but also because of context for the championship.
In college football, the teams only play 12 regular season games. If you lose even 1 your chance to make the 4 team playoff (2014-2023) is greatly diminished. Moving forward (2024-on) they are moving to a 12-team playoff which will allow more room for error but seeding will be greatly important and only the top 4 conference champions will earn a 1st round bye. From 1997-2013, the champion was determined by the BCS system and only the Top 2 ranked teams played for a championship.
So in a game like GT-FSU, not only is it a big upset, but it can be the difference between a team competing for a National Championship or not
Only one forward pass can be made per play and that pass also has to be at or behind the line of scrimmage (where the play starts). Any player can throw a pass, but it's the quarterback doing it 99.9% of the time. All of the laterals (backwards passes) you saw were plays at the end of the game after time had already expired, so teams will do everything they can to keep the play going and score if they are down by 8 points or less (touchdown is 6 - kick after a touchdown is called an extra point is worth 1 - a 2 point conversion is an optional choice instead of an extra point kick attempt if 2 points are preferred or needed... Teams almost always choose to kick since it's mostly automatic for them unless 2 points are needed or the coach has an aggressive mindset: hence, the "8 points or less"). Also, as someone has already said, you have to pay attention to the time and score of the game to get context of why the plays were exciting. Some of the game clips were also big or playoff/national championship games.
You said your team can head butt them away--it is called "blocking" and it is a high-skill activity with strict rules. It is one of the many things (such as passing the ball--which is unique to any similar sport) that distinguish this game from other sports. Blocking schemes on designed plays are highly complex requiring precise timing and technique. As you get into to sport, you will encounter what I mean.
4 downs, others have explained it well enough.
I just wanted to point out that you can punt the ball away on any down, and you can attempt a field goal on any down. It just usually doesn't make sense to do so except on 4'th downs.
There are plenty of games where the offense is up against the clock for halftime with a possession swap coming, or the end of the game, where a field goal is attempted on earlier downs.
Clock management is absolutely *vital* to the game, even to the point where a runner turning sideways to run along the end zone and taking five seconds before crossing the plane can be a game saving decision. Once a play is snapped it runs until it's done, no matter where the game clock is... so if you're up less than a goal and you've left a few seconds on the clock with a change in possession, in theory your opponent has enough time to score a touchdown and beat you.
If you haven't taken the game definitively (more than 8 points up) there's always a chance to have it taken away unless that game clock hits zero with no play running.

Texas A & M University = Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University. Students there are known as Texas Aggies. Some of their students join the "Corps" (pronounced core, but means body) of cadets. The Corps are taught much like the non Corps ("non reg") students, but have opted for military training which upon their graduation may qualify them for an offer of an officer's commission (2nd Lieutenancy) from a branch of the U.S. Military. What you saw was the Aggie band marching, and then the Corps of Cadets joining them on field to form a letter "T."
On That Lateral Play, The Reason They Had To Keep Passing The Ball Backwards Is Because When They Received The Kick The Offensive Player 1st Did The Lateral, So You Have To Continue It Until They Cross The Line With The Ball Where They Ist Recieved The Kick 👍
The hit at 2:44 was prominent in that South Carolina should have been awarded the ball on downs. Michigan was short of the mark to gain and shouldn't have kept the ball.
Clowney's hit caused a fumble and gave the ball back to South Carolina. Justice served.
Three things to look for as you encounter a game in progress--the score, the quarter (of 4) they are playing and the time remaining in that quarter, who has the ball relative to the score and the "down and distance"--what down of 4 is it and what is the distance to get a "first down" , i.e., a new set of 4 downs to continue your offensive drive to score. The game is best thought of as a chess match played by world class athletes. The offense players in the NFL typically have to learn 200 to 300 plays that can have variations on each (though teams don't always use anywhere near that many during a season, but they are there. The defense has to counter the plays with formations and strategy and of course, incredible athleticism. You might want to watch one of the basic videos on rules of American football to get a good start.
So when the ball hits the ground... it is downed. You have 4 downs to move 10 yards. If you fail to do so the ball is given to the opposing team at the spot of the final down. Repeat. If you make the 10 yards y the 4th down, it resets and you get 4 more downs to move 10 more yards. A ball going out of bounds counts as a down. A team can throw it to a receiver who has run to mid or down field. They can hand it off to a runner who will try to sneak through or around the blockers. If they are on theor last down they can also choose to kick it down field to put the opposition as far as possible from scoring. That's it in a nutshell really. Your body can be in the air and entirely off the field. As long as the ball stays in bounds, off the ground and crossed the goal line you score. I've seen players to full on flips over defenders, or jump high and backwards to catch and fall into the end zone. It can get crazy.
American football like rugby is meant to prepare warriors hence the strength, physical contact and drive.
Players cannot headbutt each other, but what you are referring to is blocking. Blocking is one of the most key fundamentals of the game, with different rules on what is allowed, and occurs on every play. American football is my favorite sport because it requires exceptional athleticism as well as being the most complex and strategic sport in the world. Teams have hundreds of plays, can create new ones to try to gain an advantage (various rule restrictions that the plays have to maintain) and play calling (what play to use and when) can be the difference in winning or losing.
You can make 1 forward pass as long as the ball has not passed the line where they all initially lined up at. Aside from that, you can make as many side ways passes (as long as the pass itself does not advance the ball) or backwards passes as you like.
Some more context for that first clip. Think of Michigan as the English National Team and Appalachia State as an American MLS squad (e.g., LA Galaxy). Teams like Michigan often schedule these tiny schools to get a warmup game in that they know they'll win. And the small school accepts the offer because they get paid millions to essentially go get beat by 50. So EVERYONE thought that's how this game would go. And App State thought differently.
You can only throw it forward beyond the line of scrimmage 1 time during the play and you can not be past the line lf scrimmage (the spot where the ball is snapped from to the quarterback) when throwing the ball.
That first one you showed was USC v Texas in 2007 (I think). One of the greatest games played. I'm sure some of these others were similar. If you would like, there are condensed versions that play the whole game in about 15 minutes. You can pass forward only once, after that or beyond the line of scrimmage it is only backward. The ball can only be passed forward one time, after a center snap. The ball can go backward until they run out of room. A receiver or runner who is downfield can pass it backward at any time. Never forward.
To score a try, the ball needs to touch down onto the ground. I would not be surprised if that's where the term touch down originates from in American football
When you are watching a college football game, the number is their ranking. Always root for the lesser ranked team, unless you really like the higher ranked team.
That was an old one and some of the best plays were not on there. The one play where you didn't understand what happened, it was a fake punt (kick), they lined up as if they were going to punt the ball to the other team but ran it instead to pick up a first down meaning that they now have 4 for more plays with the ball to try and score.

2:14 Once the receiver caught the ball on that play for Texas Tech it was pretty much game over for Texas, short of a fumble or a missed field goal. If the defenders had pulled him out of bounds, then the clock would have stopped until the next play. If they tackled him inbounds Texas Tech still had one timeout left to stop the clock. Texas Tech would have sent in their field goal unit to win the game.

8:05 you can pass the ball forward once on a play from scrimmage, but only if you haven't crossed the line of scrimmage with the ball before you throw. In the NFL if a player is throwing as he crosses the line of scrimmage he's not considered to be beyond the line of scrimmage until both the ball, and his entire body cross the line of scrimmage.

Alright, so the South Carolina vs Michigan game, the Gamecocks (in maroon) were mad because Michigan (in yellow) were given the 1st down. If you look at the end of the ball in relation to the end of the chain, there is a gap, which means it is NOT a first down.
First down means Michigan keeps the ball and keeps their drive to the end zone in play. 4th down means they turn over the ball on downs (Carolina gets the ball). The ref said Michigan had 1st down which they did not. The Gamecocks were understandably mad.
On the next play, Big Boy (JD Clowney) decided he was gonna get the ball back his own way, hence that hit and the ball recovery.
That hit and recovery helped Carolina to win.
Clowney went on to become the #1 Overall Draft pick in the NFL in 2014.

The referees are part of the playing field they get in the way and 10 seconds later they're trying to get the license plate of the truck that just ran him over. ok so in american football your get 4 downs basically tries to score or win the game and there is also 4 quarters but ok so its 4 downs right on the 4 down you can kick the other team the ball or you can go for it and if you get the first down then you get another 1st down and you start from there and if your team score then you get six points and you get to kick a field goal that is worth 1 point or you can go for a 2-point conversion and after that the team gets the ball and do the same exact thing as the other team both teams get 4 downs and all that for 4 quarters i hope this was helpful and i hope its not to late for you to look at this and reply i will be very grateful if soo

Yeah y’all don’t have the context of why these plays are considered great. First two won the national championship. The 3rd one was the biggest upset in CFB history when Appalachian State beat Michigan at Michigan. Fans at other games across the nation were watching the end of that game on TV’s next to concession stands. If Michigan had made the FG, they would’ve won.

American football is a very situational sport compared to say soccer. In college football a player doing a certain thing can mean nothing or the whole game depending on the situation he does it in. I knew you guys weren’t ready for this video yet. It takes a certain level of understanding of the sport first.
