Just say Penn State. This game is a special game every year at night called "The White Out" It's a night game, nationally televised and against a high ranked team usually in conference. A big game for them and one of the many traditions in college football... This is also a regular game on the schedule, not a championship or anything. For context, this is the only time I’ve EVER seen a team need to call one of their 3 timeouts on the FIRST PLAY OF THE GAME.
Timeouts are normally used to regroup, stop the clock, or change something in your team. They can be very precious toward the end of the half or the end of the game to manage time so they’re usually saved for later. Michigan were completely lost here and couldn’t hear a thought in their own head

    • @aPhatPhoenix
      @aPhatPhoenix 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Uga vs Arkansas in 2021, they didn’t use a timeout, but probably should’ve because they had like 2 or 3 false starts back to back on their first possession of the game because the crowd was so loud, and it was a day game.

The crowd gets loud (especially on 3rd downs) because they know they can effect the game.
They disrupt the verbal communication between the QB and all 10 other offensive players. The play calls and adjustments get sent in to the QB by the coach on each play .
If an offense doesn't convert on 3rd down they typically punt the ball away to the opponent on 4th down to push the other team far down the field. Instead of giving them a short field.

  • @hamblinta

The more noise the crowd makes the harder the opposing team can hear the quarterback yell out plays which causes someone on the offense to move to soon and that’s a penalty called a false start. The noise can also cause the quarterback to take too much time trying to get their team to hear and therefore causes the play clock to wind down to zero which is a delay of game penalty.

I’m a Michigan fan and it’s even nerve racking watching it live it’s literally defining on the field. Crowds get so loud to the point where talking is impossible before plays so teams that are struggling with crowd noise will switch to hand signals to hike the ball instead of the qb saying anything. Crowd noise can affect a game in these ways usually: delay of game, false starts and frustrating communication errors, which will frustrate the hell out of the head coaches because those penalties are considered small league undisciplined mistakes but there’s nothing that they can do sometimes when crowd noise prevents any form of communication.

the loud crowd forced them to call time outs... to put it into perspective, the (pro Football) NFL Kansas City Chiefs Arrowhead Stadium (now called GEHA Stadium) is the loudest open stadium in the world. They have reached 142 decibels. That is louder than standing next to a jet taking off, and our CDC (Center for Disease Control) says this noise level is "painful and dangerous". You will leave with your ears ringing and you are kinda confused and buzzed the rest of the night. I love it!

Nothing sweeter than going into a wild ruckus environment and shutting everyone up!

Center couldn't hear quarterback to hike ball an time delay five yard loss. This is a regular game Michigan vs Penn st. A rival game. These colleges passed out to students get first bib on tickets. So a college that has sixty thousand students they can sell tickets to these games.

You need to see Nathan’s Stadium at the University Of Tennessee when the stadium is checkerboarded.

This is the annual White Out game held at Penn State each year. It’s their most famous game. This stadium is the second biggest stadium in North America. What you are watching is a game from the beginning of the season, NOT a finals game. There are currently approximately 47K students that attend classes at this campus alone and Penn State has a total of 22 campuses. The fans you see here are mostly students, alumni and their families. WE ARE!!

These are team colors probably. In baseball "White" version of the team uniform is for Home Games "Grey/Dark) is for away games.

It’s around 110k and this isn’t a cup final, just a local derby vs two schools

Actually, it was really normal for a regular game in terms of attendance.

Michigan Stadium (The Big House), Ohio Stadium (Ohio State) and Beaver Stadium (Penn State) are the 3 biggest stadiums in the country and the most toughest stadiums in College Football. Including Texas Tech (which is not part of the Big 10 conference)

Every game is this full because there’s only 13 of them so they are all HUGE games and there’s no playoffs so you have to win every game 😂 (until this year)

I was at this game!!! The Penn State White Out game is a big deal, tickets are hard to get/expensive (if you're not a student with a ticket or season ticket holder.)
There are thousands more people outside tailgating without tickets (attendance inside is about 110,000.) Some people are there in giant RVs most of the week! Lol!
It was a tradition that started when the students all wore white shirts (something they all had) to show support and then it was for the whole stadium. There are lots of similar traditions now in other schools but the Penn State one has some sort of magic in the atmosphere. It is thrilling to be there, you can actually feel the excitement physically. It's something that I wish everyone could experience once in their lifetime!
Btw, they are chanting "We Are Penn State." Another tradition that is rumored to have started in 1948 when a school didn't want Penn State to bring black players to the Cotton Bowl. And the team said, "we are Penn State, there will be no negotiation about this."

Most ranked college games have a feel close to this but the whiteout does stand a cut above the rest.

It’s called the white out game everyone wears white weather they bring themselves like that or the stadium will provide white shirts. And it usually exceeds the capacity of the stadium which is usually 107k on the white out week can reach 110k-113k

110,000 fans. The stadium capacity is 107,000, but PSU shoves 110,000+ into Beaver Stadium for the Whiteout. Best college football environment every year. The dates that y’all asked about in the beginning are years that Penn State won a national championship

Oh Michigan (in white) had their backs to the Penn States Student Sections which has been known to be the greatest Student Sections of College Football. The one reason is that THE NOISE THAT THEY Produce. When your an opposing QB trying to callouts, you will barley hear your self or your teammates.

To put into perspective 8 if the 10 largest stadiums in the world are college football stadiums. Just a crowd there to see athletes who up until recently, didn't even make any money to play.

Even with our team Fresno State, we'll have whiteout games where everybody wears white or blackout games too where everybody wears black. It just depends on the night whatever they set it for
