In this episode of Tarikh, Nikhil narrates the history of Manipur, located in northeastern India.
The princely state of Manipur emerged in the 18th century under the rule of King Pamheiba, who consolidated the region and established a centralised administration. Manipur maintained its independence until the late 19th century when the British East India Company gradually extended its influence over the region. In 1891, Manipur was officially annexed by the British and became a princely state under their control.
After India gained independence in 1947, Manipur became part of the Indian Union. In 1949, it was merged with India as a Part C state. Later, in 1956, Manipur became a full-fledged union territory. Finally, in 1972, Manipur attained statehood within the Indian federal system.
Overall, the history of Manipur as a princely state reflects a complex blend of independence, foreign rule, and eventual integration into the Indian Union, shaping the present-day identity of the state.

It’s not an accusation that king Pamheiba forced the people to convert to Hinduism. But it’s a fact. He ordered to collect all the holy book of meiteis that is ‘ Puya’ and ordered to burn it down.
That’s why some Meiteis fled along with the holy book to Assam, Tripura and so on.
Puya was almost totally vanished but in modern days we started looking out for it and found it’s remains. However, it was in meitei mayek ( meitei script ) which not many modern Meities knows how to read or write the script because it was replaced by Bengali script for the past 300 years or more. Again because of the king.
True and today's generation are learning with our own script ie, Meetei Eyek and the olders are also getting educated with the same.❤

Only Meiteis have written history. Only Meiteis have fought the British. Meiteis are the originator of Manipuri dance, Manipuri martial art (Thang Ta), and the sport of Polo. Today Meiteis are confined to 6% of Manipur and being chased down by foreign infiltraters. Wow!
Same here in uttarakhand peoples form up, Bihar and other states are destroying our uttrakhandi (kumaoni , garhwali and Jaunsari) culture. Here in uttarakhand we don't have any land laws and any kind of reservation to reserve our enrich culture.
9:29 Pahmeiba was a Ramandi Vaishnavite he based his life on the warrior King Lord Rama. It was Bhagyachandra Chingthangkhomba who is responsible for the type of Vaishnavism that is prevalent in Manipur (Gaudiya) which has softened the Meiteis to a large extent.
A Massachuesets scholar of Indian origin has done a detailed study on it, in fact his report his available on the internet for free.
This is very questionable claim I don't think there was much connection with Hindu deities

There are more than 40 places called Manipur in India n one each in Pakistan n nepal. The Manipur mentioned in Mahabharata was not the Manipur so called kangleipak. Manipur wad adopted in later years instead of kangleipak. The Manipur mentioned in Mahabharata might be Manipur in orissa.

Hello Troll, present Manipur boundaries consist more area than actual original kangleipak as British pushed boundaries into Burma after defeat of Burmese forces & those hill district into Manipur so you have burmese tribes in your state. For your info max tribes belongs original Burma, Thailand or Tibet.

The king shouldn't have destroyed the age old religious texts of Manipur. The Britishers were atleast better in safe keeping all the religious texts and artefacts, etc of different regions of India.

Now everyone can clearly see who is the indigenous people of manipur. Our meitei king ruled all over the manipur from ancient time. But now we are living in 6/7% area of manipur with population 55%. In the same time kuki people are claiming rest of 90% as their land just because they got ST by govt of India and we didn't.
They are protesting against us when we are demanding for ST.
Because meitei people live only in 700sqkm manipur and dont think meiteis own everything including the sun

Untill British and Mughal invasion, the whole region were divided into Aangh, Bhangh and Kalinga, so it's possible during Mahabharat period . Manipur might be part of Kalinga later on called Odisha
