The CRAZY Story Behind Making the SOUTH PARK Movie

  • A lot of crazy things happened when making South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. This video highlights some of those events. What's most surprising of all, is that back when they were making the movie, they were convinced that film would be the end of South Park, and the show would have lasted only 2 seasons, ending in 1999.
Who would have thought it would still be going strong all these years later?
The original ‘cheesy’ version of the trailer that was cut by Paramount was never released. But this is the version the Trey Parker and Matt Stone did approve: • Video

This really is such a beautiful story. I love how they met in college and knew what they wanted to do and weren't convinced otherwise and they succeeded.

You forgot to mention that the original title was going to be "South Park: All Hell Breaks Lose", but the MPAA wouldn't approve the use of the word "Hell" in the title (despite other movies getting away with it in the past). So, they changed the title to "Bigger, Longer, & Uncut." The MPAA approved this, simply thinking it was referring to the movie being a bigger, longer and uncut version of the show. They didn't realize that the title was a phallic innuendo until two weeks later, where they called Trey and Matt back and demanded the title be changed, only for the two to point out that it was too late as they had already registered the trademark, and Comedy Central's producers came to their defense.

You're mixing up 2 separate issues. They already had to accept the movie is R-rated. It wasn't about PG-13 anymore. It was about their coorporate america generic comedy trailer. Afterwards, they mocked how corporations advertise every single comedy the same way throughout an episode of South Park. (S06E15 "The Biggest Douche in the Universe") They did 4 different Rob Schneider spoof trailers all of the same basic concept. "Rob Schneider is.. A carrot! And he's about to find out, that being a carrot, is not so good." and descended into just spewing "Rob Schneider, derpty derp! Derpy derpy derpy derp" in the same flow they talk in. lol (because audiences will already understand exactly what that sounding talk means without need for actual sentences anymore)
And if you've seen that recent Megamind 2 trailer, you'll know they still do this! lol With the upbeat guitar, the constant walls of text, with that same masculine voice actor to make things sound more awesome... "THIS SUMMER!" lmao
Also the South Park creators are against easy random unrelated cutaway gag humor (that Family Guy has become known for), but for the purpose of ripping on these corporations generic trailers they had to do it this once. They had the characters see the first 2 gag trailers while on airplanes so it makes sense why they're included, then just jumped right into the other 2 after other scenes ended. lol
And also they kept ending them with "Rated PG-13!" to mock the fact they want all their movies "PG-13". lol

I think Matt actually drove the car with the negative into a ditch even so they could absolutely never get it back

Starship Troopers and South Park the Movie were the first 2 DVD's I bought, when DVD's first came out.
There wasn't any unskippable warnings or previews, once you inserted the disc it just loaded the menu. Hit play.
Starship Troopers was double sided though, had to eject and flip over the disc half way through.. They must have been learning about the storage size.

Request: How about you do an animated story about Mary Kay Bergman, who used to do the female voices for South Park until her death.
    That would probably be cool.
