You were closer to this songs original time then most of us were. That is something I find extremely amazing, and it's what makes the elderly such a treasure. God bless you, sir. I only hope current events and modern day music and art will be worthy enough for me to recollect when I'm your age. God bless you, my friend.
@@tristanmorris9432 well said, and I share your same thoughts on this song, music, and ageless spirited era. God Bless you @Charles Mitchell. Memories that which let us know we live a life worthwhile, and who knows what new memories we can be lucky enough to bestow upon those close to us, both the young and old. I hope this song soothes your heart... and rest assured you're not alone in these intense captivating emotions of sentimentality and true appreciation. Thank you for sharing, and may God truly bless you. May he bless you both, richly, in this life and the next to come.
I recall my Dad playing this song on the ukulele and singing along with it....way back as I'm now 86! What good beautiful years they were! I'm blessed with so many memories!
Yeahh same! The time feels *slightly more innocent. This music was made with the intentions for people to dance to it. It's got that 'jig' and it was almost like made by "grown kids-" happy and hopeful. People who saw the world not as fast paced as it is now, but knew there was something gleaming in the air, as industrialization was not something anyone had ever seen (not as fast paced as it was in this historical era). The possibilities were endless, and people just wanted to dance. A time of expression, indifferent to people's opinions. I love this song, and I know exactly what you mean by that "happy feeling" it gives, which makes me just want to dance, and think of the endless possibilities in my day and for my life. X)
my dear father was born in 1904.left home and joined the merchant marines at age sixteen. lived well until 1979. HE LIVED THOSE YEARS AND YES A GOLDEN TIME INDEED.
Superb track. What a blast from the past. Despite me not having been born at that time, I was surrounded with this type of music from an early age & LOVE it. It makes me want to play all my 78's again! It's such a happy sound from the twenties. Thanks for posting.
My grandmother was born in 1911 and was exactly 5 foot 2 and blue-eyed. My grandfather used to say this song was written about her. They were the sweetest couple, so in love and devoted to each other even late into their lives. I miss them and always think of them when I hear this song.
Same year as my grandma in CA. My pampa left before her but she helped raise me, so did he. My mother left me with them but Oh the Memories that led me to Jesus and after, baptism! Church camp and spreading the Good News!!! I became a child of God and have been held even since I His hand!
My elementary music school teacher taught us this! For some reason the lines “could she love, could she woo, could she could she could she coo!” popped into my head. was delighted to find this!
That cymbal.. Just epically misplaced, and still so awesome! Also, I've learned this song on the guitar, and it's really hilarious to play it, when people know you as a metallover. :P
this song reminds me of my Nana... my grandpa used to sing this to her cause she was 5"2 and had eyes of blue... and as am I :) I love you Nana and Grandpa R.I.P xoxoxoxo
Wonderful post-thank you! So much humour in it and it makes you want to dance. A part of music so easily lost. Go out now and find a house built in the 1920's and imagine the builders there going up & down their ladders in time as they sing "... could she love, could she woo, could she, could she, could she coo" Look closer! Is the cement well mixed? "Is he thick, is he slow, let's give that another go, has anybody seem my trowel?"
I'm not that old relative to this song, but my mother was very musically inclined, and this was a song she would often sing or play growing up. The memories that it elicits are unforgettable.
This makes me think of my grandma.. She used to listen to these songs. It's sad thinking that most of that generation has passed on.. And they were all smarter than us.
I am 75 my dad would play this on the guitar and my mom on the piano when I was very young. I would laugh and say mommy, daddy is singing about you. mom would laugh saying no he's not I'm five foot 3. haha 😆 i miss them both
It is very impressive that the song is a good memory for you. It's obvious that this kind of music is more entertaining than the current ones. Greetings from Turkey, love.
Using the whole tone scale on the V7 chord along with the horns/cymbal arrangement makes it really fun. Learned at age 15 in 1978 playing 🎹in Wolverines in MN. Monk was aware of this song obviously writing 4 in 1!
Im 20 years old and stuck with the pandemic and im curious how good the past music. And guess what im not disappointed. How unfair the world sometimes because our old grandma or grandpa have this and have contentment in life. Meanwhile fast forward to 2020 we have a lot of stuffs like cellphones or gadgets but still not contended. What a music . It gives me this type of thoughts hehe
My mom was 5foot 2. Dad used to sing this song to my mom when I was a little girl in Brooklynn. MOM WAS BORN IN 1911 AND dad 1912. Big song on Sundsys in the Irish Parlor. GREAT FIND. THANKS.
Della Bell just love vinyl!! I have yet to go through my parents collection, and get a record player!! I still have some of my own vinyl. Do you remember when you could buy all your favourites through K-Tel!!!
I have no idea how this piano score ended in my grand parent's inventory in Africa. I found it and played when I was 10 years old. There were many old tunes to play to fight boredom at home (Like "Why do Robin Sing in Decmber" and "Over the Rainbow"). That was 45 years ago.
Oh my Lord! I just realized this is the song my grandma sang to me. She said my great grandparents would play this type of music all the time around her in the 50's.
It's nice that this version not only has a really snappy vocal style, it allows several different instruments great solo bits. Good work by all and a fine representation of this period on our musical history.
Thank you so much for this song and for the info on de sylva, brown and henderson, I hadn't realised that henderson wrote on his own for so long. I always think he looked like Dan Dailey because of the Best Things In Life are free. Please keep posting such wonderful, period authentic pieces. Thankyou again.
ahahahahaha i love this song my aunt taught me this song. my uncle always used to make fun of it saying "has any body seen my squirrel" cause she used to say Girl not Gal.
I too am a GaGa fan but I'll be honest, I first heard this tune when watching an episode of I Love Lucy. I think its the episode when Ricky gets a sore throat. Thanks for the upload, I'll be wagging my finger til the cows come home lol!
To people wondering the relationship of this song with Lady Gaga’s documentary: Lady Gaga is 5”2”. This is very short for an adult woman. Yet most people think of Lady Gaga as this larger-than-life extreme, alien-diva personality. The point of the film was to show that she’s indeed extreme, but she’s a grounded traditionalist at her core. And it’s really just that she wants to appreciate the small day-to-day connections with other human beings. It’s not specifically based on this song, it’s just a clever reference.
Same here. It’s hard to believe the same man that the country loved after 9/11 is such an absolute disaster of a human being. He’s a joke! This timeline is so surreal.
My dad and his brothers used to sing and play this song when I was a little boy. I'm now 77. What memories. Makes me cry.

I’m 17, this music makes me so happy. Better than some modern songs 💯
I'm dedicating this song to my Nana who helped raise me, & passed on this morning at 97. She was 5'2" with eyes of blue, & this was her song.
God Bless her, you, and the creators of such a piece, that we could make it personal and somehow connect with it and most importantly each other.
So beautiful and thank you for sharing to reach Me!
My condolences on your loss....I lost a couple of cousins in one week
I am sorry for your loss.
Sorry for your loss! Y
I’m 19 and when I listen to the music of the 20s,idk why it makes me so happy

I'm 13 and this is 100 better than some modern songs
You're on a good path, Lad!
I’m the same age and I could not agree more!! I didn’t think anyone else 13 had a care in the world. Thank goodness.
I wasn't around for the Roaring 20s but listening to this is the next best thing. Fun record.
my dear father was born in 1904.left home and joined the merchant marines at age sixteen. lived well until 1979. HE LIVED THOSE YEARS AND YES A GOLDEN TIME INDEED.

listening these in 2020.. and I dare to say that they're still as good as nearly 100 years ago!

My grandma. Born in 1917 would sing this while playing her piano. She just passed away Sunday.
Me too!
@@shaneconwayyy may your grandma rest in peace. God bless her!
My nan sings 5 foot 2 eyes of blue to me all the time but then I tell her I'm actually 5'3 so she sings "5 foot 3, eyes of green!"
John Xu nope, 16 years old and still 5’3 (although I’m a bit closer to 5’4 now)
Awe this is so adorable. Makes it more personal doesn't it? Love this so much! X) thanks for sharing

A real pleasure to listen to this video. THANK YOU for posting it on here.

it's not very short, it's about 2 inches below average. I know tons of ladies between 5' and 5'4.

My Mom would sing this song to us as kids. She was born in 1923.
I'd love to live in this time people were so much happier and it wasn't as complicated I feel like anywhere from like 1880 to 1950 I would wanna live
YEA THIS IS GREAT!
Anyone else here because Matt Damon caught strays from Rudy Giuliani?
Yes! That is why I’m here. I’m not the only one it seems.
Same here. It’s hard to believe the same man that the country loved after 9/11 is such an absolute disaster of a human being. He’s a joke! This timeline is so surreal.
Love it!
