  • A Masterpiece Lens $60 MIR-1 37mm f2.8 Review Swirl Background Bokeh USSR Leica SL Camera Class 353
**The Mir-1 is a 37 mm f/2.8 lens made by KMZ and later other Soviet factories for a number of 35 mm SLR cameras. It was designed by D.S. Volosov in 1954 and was in production from the late '50s. The design was based on Pentacon's Flektogon 1 of the same length and aperture.

So, truth be told, it's the person holding the camera is the artist creating the photo, NOT THE CAMERA.

As far as post processing your work, well if you want to get the finest image you can after the shutter clicks, you absolutely must do some post work.
If you ordered a meal at a restaurant, would you like the meal better if the chef tweaked your food to the highest pro chef level? Yes of course.
    ***Why are CCD cameras better?
CCD sensors create high-quality, low-noise images. CMOS sensors are usually more susceptible to noise. Because each photosite on a CMOS sensor has several transistors located next to it, the light sensitivity of a CMOS chip tends to be lower, as many of the photons hit the transistors instead of the photosite

    Must Read
"Photographic art overlaps with the landscape, portraiture, and other photography types. It is defined by the artist's vision and approach to get distinct photographs. Unlike other forms of photography, fine art photography is about capturing what the artist sees instead of what the camera sees. It is just another tool for artists to produce their art."
(Quote from N.F. I. The Nashville Film Institute)
**The CCD was invented in 1969 at Bell Labs by Willard Boyle and George Smith. Since that CCD FILM LIKE SENSOR was sensitive to light it was used as image sensor for video and TV cameras. It could also be used as a memory device or analogue signal delay since it's principally a kind of analogue shift-register circuit.

Stunning clarity and color. The Russians and Germans where/are masters with glass. Leica with a master lens is a combo difficult to beat. I wonder if a Nikon mount adaptor would be easier to get…..oh, custom 3D printed adaptor. Well he needs to start printing Nikon adaptors. Would make a great wedding lens.

I just ordered a Helios 44M-4 from Poland, should be here next week. Also looking at a Helios 44-2 which also produces a really nice swirly bokeh. I've already ordered adapters for my Fuji X mount and Nikon F mount but I understand with the Nikon F mount you can't focus the M42 lenses to infinity. Apparently Nikon has a different flange to sensor distance than other popular brands. Other sellers of Russian lenses on Ebay have been from Belarus and Ukraine. We'll see how long they take to get to Virginia USA. :)

You are right when you call it a masterpiece. This lens got the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Brussels (Expo 58) in 1958. Many photographers believe that the MIR-1 is better (in terms of characteristics) in the first edition, under the M-39 with the inscription “Grand Prix Brussels”. This is because quality control was better in the 50s and early 60s than later, when production volumes increased dramatically. And as for vignetting on your photos: there is the Mir-1 version, which has a diverging meniscus as the first lens, which significantly reduces vignetting when shooting at an open aperture. Resolution according to specifications (center/edge): 45/23 lines/mm. Pleasure to see enthusiasts here. Greetings from Russia!

I've been toying with the idea of getting myself a Canon 7 rangefinder. It has an M39 mount, and they made this lens in M39 as well. Hmm... :)
+1 to the buying from Ukraine advice. Have bought several cameras and lenses from Ukrainians since the start of that stupid war, and have a Helios 44 enroute now. Have had 0 issues thus far.

This lens seems to be a pure jewell! I do agree with you: we have to support Ukrainian citizens by buying some lenses or cameras to them. I've bought some rangefinder cameras such as Fed 3, Zorki 4 or Kiev 4 am to them, and I've always been charmed with thoses little masterpieces. Keep on doing such an intesting content.
    Cheers from France!

I know. I have had one since the 1970s. They work great for old tube gear as they are. I don't use it much anymore as I use a Proiii with a KM184 mic. My first photography interest came about in 1959 when I learned to process B&W film. The gear I had back then was not all that good. Today I use a Sony A7Rii and have more than 48 vintage lenses. I have been geting into vintage anamorphic projector lenses lately, both 16mm and 35mm. There is a video from Siberia that uses the MIR-1V and the Meopta 2X. That is how I found your channel. I was looking up the MIR.
