How to Connect the PS4 Slim to a VGA Computer Monitor or VGA TV

- Hi, this video shows you how to use the PlayStation 4 Slim Console on a old VGA Monitor without any HDMI ports. This same setup will apply to old Televisions without HDMI ports but on the TV you will not need separate speakers as the TV will have speakers built in already (unlike my old monitor) but you may need a long 3.5mm stereo lead or a 3.5mm jack to twin Phono lead (red and white RCA connectors) depending on the Audio Inputs on your TV. Or you could use the headphone jack on the DualShock 4 Controller.
The picture is perfectly acceptable as on my old monitor it is outputting 720P (HD Ready) but your monitor may well be capable of 1080P(Full HD). It will not be as good as using a HDMI cable on a Full HD TV because using VGA is an analog signal rather than the better digital signal but is definitely usable.

Howdy from Tennessee, USA. You saved me with this video man. I have a 1080p 90inch tv that was hit by lightning and the hdmi input was no longer working but the VGA input was working great. Stopped me from getting rid of a perfectly good giant tv to run my PS4 on. Really appreciate that my guy!
Same man, my tv got striked by a lightning too and only the vga input is working..but when I did a research, I found that my 55 inch tv motherboard was really cheap..gonna replace it soon.

You actually don’t need the speaker u can just use headphones on the headphone jack

Thank you so much bruv. At first I was wondering what did I do wrong with my setup. Turns out I was plugging the power lead of the HDMI switch on the IR slot, and not on the DC 5V slot. After slotting it correctly, it works like a charm.

@@raptorfromthe6ix833 I found an old functional monitor on the sidewalk the other day and I never been a huge fan of fancy lights and weird shaped monitors so it is an alternative
Wdym it's not even that confusing lmao it's just an additional attachment to the vga adapter so it can provide extra power
Thanks for this. I had the hdmi to vga adapter but was having no joy. Had a spare hdmi splitter but wouldn't have thought of putting that on as well. Works perfect now.

This is just perfect! Worked instantly on my LG FLATRON W1943C VGA Monitor. I have tried like everything, nothing was working. But, after connecting hdmi switcher and giving 5V power supply, it just works instantly.
Using it for about 3 hours now, works like a charm.

So the main trick here is to have to power the converted signal, which is a common misunderstanding among people (like me at first) trying to connect their VGA monitors to the PS4. I was so confused the first time i bought the cheap HDMI to VGA converter which didn't have additional power support and was wondering why it won't work.
Thanks for the video, mat, luckily I already had the HDMI switch so I didn't have to wait and buy another converter, just didn't thought that the converter had to be powered.

@@nelson6612 No the adapter was fine. I just had to Hook up everthing to the HDMI switch, the switch carrys the power to the adapter

@@nelson6612 yes but you have to buy a adapter that can have a micro USB entrance, the adapter must be connected to power for the screen to work

This is amazing! But if you want to save money, you can buy a HDMI to VGA adapter with audio thing that converts the HDMI signal into analog signal (VGA signal)

Guys just an update on this video,
only buy the adapter if your monitor has a headphone jack.
If your not bothered about the speakers just buy a hdmi to vga cable for about £8.00 ($10) which still allows you to use headphones.
Even still, if you really want speakers just plug them into your controllers headphone jack via aux and you’ll still get a perfectly good sound!
Also if you want a mic with that just get a mic to headset spliter
