  • It's been almost a year since I originally purchased the Litter Robot 4 and what a ride it's been! In this video I update you on where the LR4 is now. Have they fixed it's issues? Can I recommend it? Or is it sitting in a landfill somewhere? Let's find out!

Interesting. Glad you made this video, and extra glad I didn’t see this before buying my LR4. I bought it Black Friday last year as a bundle with 3 yr warranty; with 4 cats using only that box full time I had ZERO problems until this past week, which is how I got here. I actually had two problems… I got one (torque fault) resolved immediately with their online trouble shooting guide, and got problem two (rubber liner torn some by cat claws) resolved by them two-day shipping me a brand new globe for free 🤷🏼‍♀️
I love it and can’t imagine going back. Their customer service is phenomenal and I’ve been incredibly pleased with the product.
Ps I only use, and have only ever used, the walnut cat litter in this box.
UPDATE 10/‘23: torque fault recurred and was clearly an issue with the motor or something I couldn’t resolve, within 2 days they sent me a brand new unit FOR FREE with return shipping for the malfunctioning unit. No questions asked (other than the initial “have you tried this and that”) and paid return shipping. This is the best customer service I have ever had from any company hands down. Still thrilled with my purchase.
    SECOND UPDATE DEC 2023:
New unit works perfectly. Add in the complimentary New globe and it’s a whole new LR4. Thrilled with this purchase and so glad I bought it.

I set up my litter robot 4. It has been 3 days and my cats have not used it yet. I am following whisker recommendation of not scooping the old box and letting it get scrungy. I believe that at a certain my 2 cats will migrate to the lr4.
I'm excited by your review and am looking forward to my pets using the lr4. Patience is a virtue. 😂

Well, I tell you what, for the first snow, I finally cleaned out my garage in the house I bought last year so I could park inside. A big space eater was LR4 and the original base (they sent me a replacement) that I haven't used since early this spring, as like you, felt like it was not a reliable litter box. (I actually resorting to installing one of my security cameras in the room to be able to see it's status away from home) I was about to put it out for trash to make room (painful reminders of the $700 down the drain), but decided "maybe something has changed", and came searching and found your video. Even more hopeful from your video is saying what liter, as I use what you did in prior videos (99% dust free, MY a--!! LOL). I may just give the damn thing a try again. Thank you for the update. I felt like the company rushed the product to sale, and just didn't have the support in place to handle it. Support really sucked until I asked about when the end of the "return period" was to return it, then suddenly, oh so helpful, then the return period passed... and right back to crap support.

The cleanup is honestly not that bad. It's a bit more intensive than a tradional catbox but it's far less disgusting. And you can realistically do it every few weeks if you only have one cat

@rebeccabrown5014@@dontburnthehousedownvideos With both multiple LR3's and now the LR4, I've never done a deep clean or litter-replacement more than every 6 months and usually they've been 12+ months apart. The trick is using good fast clumping litter (that doesn't mean expensive) and having a proper delay timer. (Dr. Elsey's Ultra/7 min delay.) I've read good things about Boxie Pro and may give it a try as it's supposed to be less dusty... but it's also twice the cost :(

We bought a new lr4 in January. It's broken already. They're sending me a new laserguard PCB. Ours flashes red and blue.
Also ours has a crack that formed in base right in the same spot as yours. Wonderful. I'm going to work on the laser guard PCB first - and if that doesn't work we're just going to get a whole new base. I feel incredibly burned by spending 8 freaking hundred dollars on something that has been advertised as the best cat product since sliced bread.
I just wanted to make this comment to let you know that apparently they still haven't fixed whatever the underlying problem is with their units. You just happened to get a good one.

  • @stucody
    @stucody หลายเดือนก่อน

When I received my first LR4 is was also cracked at the base and had a hole. The box wasn’t damaged so it shows poor quality control. However, I complained and I was sent out a new base which arrived quickly. I now have two and very happy with them. The only issue I have is with the latest firmware as majority of the time it doesn’t recognise the cat to it’s weight but otherwise works great

I also received an email from him this past week because I had an issue with my own LR 4. It was a scripted email, but none the less an email apologizing for the problem and vowed that the updates that they have made are making it better. One thing I’ve noticed with the new base unit is, if I put my hand inside the globe , the light bar turns red as usual, but after a few seconds, it goes back to blue. And the smart scale is working.

Up until recently, I have had little to no issue with LR4. This unit was one that had to have been produced very early, as the first round of ads hooked me. That said, it had been weird at times, but not unusable. Today I’ve found that it’s getting stuck mid-cycle. I will be ordering a new one, as it’s well past the warranty period, and I wanted to get a new one soon anyway. Anyway, thanks for validating that I should continue to use Whisker as a service and LR4 as a product!

Great video! I love my LR4, I've had it for about a year now, but for the past few months I had issues with the sensor thinking the waste basket was full... I dismissed it as a software issue that they'd probably fix soon since they're consistently pushing updates all the time. Until two weeks ago when I realized I had never cleaned the actual sensors before and maybe that was the culprit, now it's working as perfectly as it was on day 1! Plus the upgraded litter guard is everything I wished for. In the year I've owned the LR4 they've made noticeable improvements, now maybe they could also keep improving some of the messaging around troubleshooting issues 😅

Stumbled on your videos and was starting to have major regrets with my purchasing decisions. I wasn't having the stopping issue but I was worried that it could potentially be in my future. It is pretty relieving to see that Whisker was able to listen, make appropriate firmware adjustments, and change the mind of one of youtube's harshest critics under fair testing. Thanks for your follow up review. I've been thinking about purchasing the LR4 and have been reading a lot of reviews on it. And something I've noticed is that there seems to be a lot more negative reviews coming from early reviews from folks who purchased the LR4 early on vs. the later reviews coming from the more recent purchasers. And so your vid just reinforces my belief that the company probably put it out on the market a bit too soon and didn't do enough testing beforehand. But now the product has become much improved due to hardware and/or firmware fixes they've been able to implement.

Not too bad that the cats decided to do their business in the bathtub. Next challenge is to convince them to use the toilet and flush. Kudos for them being able to come up with a way to workaround the issue. Using their OEM litter would've resulted with the same issue and you'll even have even much more of a mob of pitchforks at corporate HQ since you mentioned that it cost more than other litters out there.
The other option that is almost fool resistant is to have a camera and some AI to "visually" see if a cat is in there or not along with determining how dirty the box is and let the owner know. IMO that is a bit too creepy for my taste and it'll add to the cost substantially.

I was looking at getting one. But, I don’t know. Even watching you cleaning it, it seems like a job. I admit that I was actually burnt by Littermaid. I think I bought the first and the second versions back in the day. One of those versions had a urine trap that attracted all of these little black spiders and you NEVER got the smell out! I’ve actually been using a Booda Dome, for many years. Even for its very large size, it’s a bit smaller than the LR4. But, the only reason I was thinking of an automated box, once again, is actually because I was also thinking about an automated wet feeder. That, if I wanted to go away, for a day or two, it would be nice for my 2 cats to not only be fed automatically. But, to also have their litter box cleaned automatically, without having some nosey neighbor come in to take care of them or take them somewhere, which I don’t think I’d ever do.

Yeah, so if one lives in an apt. with no balcony there's no place to clean it! I shall stick to regular litter boxes even though the thought of a robot would be so cool. I have 4 cats and 2 boxes, they use both.

I've had them for 3+ years and always cleaned in a bathtub. Of course, you need to remove big chunks of litter, but overwise it's fine.

If u have 4 cats then u should have 5 litter boxes. Seems like u have to clean both litter boxes twice a day! Really the LR4 would work fine for you. Just clean the globe in the bathtub with wipes and don't let any litter go down the drain. You only need to clean it once every 2 weeks. And would need probably 2 bags a week that you just pull out and throw in the garbage. So much easier!

I have a love-hate relationship with my litter robot. The concept of not having to scoop is wonderful and while I don’t mind having to clean it because some clumps get stuck or what have you this litter box cost way too much money to have as many glitches as it does. I’m coming up on a year and the last four months I’ve had major issues with it stopping, not rotating, not emptying and that’s upsetting because of the price tag.

@@KatieKat14 did you do the update and still have issues. After this video, I found the update. Hoping it works better. Those freeze ups are a pain big time agreed.

Hi. Thanks for putting up this video. I've had Litter-Robots since LRII came out. I'm not what I would consider a fanboy, there have been real issues with every version... but I do love the LR's. I've had the LR4 for 13 months. I use Dr. Elsey's Ultra litter... which is a bit more dusty than I would like, but other than wiping down the outside of the LR4 and annoyingly dumping the litter on the shield back in because for some reason they eliminated the hole allowing the litter to fall back into the globe, I haven't had to clean the unit.
I do plan on doing a deep cleaning before the winter weather comes and I can't use the outside hose spigots. I'm surprised your unit gets that dirty. What cycle delay do you have it set on? Mine is on 7 minutes, which I've found to be just right for the Dr. Elsey's litter. If you haven't tried it, I'd recommend you do. It's $20 for a 40 lbs bag delivered from Chewy. While dusty, it's much less dusty than the litter you use... I had used that for years until they changed the formula about 5 years ago and it became a lot more dusty.
I hope you continue to have success with the LR4.

Wow you have smart cats that's probably one of the best non litter box areas for them to 💩

MY LR4 was working great until the newest update. Now it is solid red and won't do anything. I have tried all the fixes and still nothing. Hope your LR4 is still going strong after the newest updates.

You can't go wrong with either one of them. Unfortunately, products change and evolve as time goes by. The winner last year might be the loser this year! Either way, you chose a winner

All 4 of my cats hate the litter robot 4, to the point where one of them has stopped using any litter tray despite always having had all of their old ones still ready to use. He just poos and pees on our rugs and chairs now. The thing has created great stress in the whole household. Their 90 days return guarantee is bs. It cost me £200 to return to them.
