  • This is easily the most in depth video I've made to date and boy is it full of information! Who knew that the $600+ cat box market would be so competitive! Today I'm putting the Litter Robot 4 by Whisker vs The Leo's Loo Too by Smarty Pear.

    Appreciate the review! I've been a Litter Robot owner for the last 12-13 years. I've owned their LR2 bubble unit and their Open Air, which I personally upgraded the circuit board when they came out with the wifi and app. I've had the last unit, which was reconditioned when I bought it, for 6 years. The motor has never died on any of mine. The only reason I've upgraded mine as time has passed is a combination of new technology being available and they do need some maintenance over time after all the day in and out abuse they take (I have 4 cats). I just retired my OA this week when I received my LR4. I agree it's not perfect, but LR has never been perfect, nor do I believe a perfect litter box exists. LR works for my household though so I continue to stick with them. In terms of customer service, this is the first time I've ever seen them struggle in all my years as a customer so I'm chalking up to a new launch and the current employment climate. I did get a hold of a rep on the phone today after about 20 minutes so I'd say they're making strides in getting back on track. I did look at the Loo when I was considering upgrading but I know for our house the my one butt-raising peer would 100% not turn around and pee outside that small box. I'm also pretty sure one of my others prefers more open spaces so that would be a no for her too. I'll definitely be keeping my eye on Loo though and look forward to seeing what they bring to the table in the future. I believe competition is a good thing. We can't forget that LR is the OG, they paved the way for the products that exist today and they will always have my respect for that.

    i have been searching and searching for a video that touched on my biggest concern about getting a litterbox like this, and i finally found it! my cat has been known to use the litterbox facing away from the entrance & ends up urinating all over the floor outside. i’m so glad i came across your video because i was just about to place an order for the LR4, but i’ll be going with the leo’s loo too for this reason alone. the overall aesthetic + color options are a huge bonus for me too. thanks so much for making such a detailed comparison video- you may have just saved me hundreds of dollars and a lot of buyers remorse lol

    Thanks for this comparison! It really opened my eyes to what features and functions should be most important in an electronic litter box. It also helped me understand what to expect from one and what not to expect. I nearly made the wrong choice but this video changed my mind right before I purchased. Thank you.

    Your litter robot is dirtier inside because the litter hasn't had enough time to clump and dried down, this stains the interior during rotation, try extending the litter wait time to 15 minutes and you will see the interior stains reduced significantly as the default set wait time for LR is only 7 minutes. I believe Loo interior is cleaner because of the longer wait time and litter had enough time to clump.

    • @dontburnthehousedownvideos
      @dontburnthehousedownvideos  ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The Loo is set to 30 seconds out of the box. I set it to 2 minutes. The LR4 was set to the default 7 minutes. Unfortunately this isn't the case.

      @@stephaniefoster5064 I've had LR3 for 5 years, first 4 years hardly any issues, but this last year was a nightmare, breaks down every other month and some parts needs to be replaced or something, been costing me a lot of money, I'm not happy as well. I just replaced the dfi sensor a week ago, and been working again for 1 week, but anxious to see how this will last before another issue, so tired mentally and financially.

    Well done, nice review and thanks for the effort in putting this together!
    I have the LR4 and have been quite happy with it. I did encounter sensor issues and the dreaded red light indicator in the first month. But after setting the drum correctly on the base and cleaning all sensors, it’s worked perfectly for the last 3 months. Regular maintenance is important. Also understanding how the sensors work and their location will help.
    Great to see competition in this product type line, great for the consumer. If you’re thinking about getting an automated litter box, these things are well worth it.

    I had and still have the LR1 as a backup for 7 years before getting and now have had the LR3 for another 7 years. My current cat is a huge 17 lbs and would not go into the LR1 because of its small opening and inside dimensions but the LR3 is just fine. There were no problems ever with the LR1, I wish they had just left it alone but for its size, no need for all the whistles and bells, because things can go wrong which they did with the LR3. It would stop in mid-cycle, still does sometimes and I have to unplug and then replug the unit, I had to replace a cable and something else which I cant remember, but with the help of video and written instructions I could do them myself. The more gadgets and electronics you attach the more can go wrong. Nevertheless, it is certainly better than having to scoop. Yes, the Leo's Loo Too is certainly less expensive than the LR4 and I don't need all the electronics both of them have, but I do wonder: where is the Leo's Loo manufactured? The LR is made in the US.

Then I got 2 more cats, and while I don't mind emptying the tray daily and having to clean it more (due to 3 cats vs just 1), I DO mind how much it breaks down and has to be fiddled with to make it work. I was going to get the LR4 to have two litter box options for my 3 cats, but I think I may go with the Loo instead.

My 2nd reconditioned robot 3 has been a pain from day one but I can deal as they are minimal. They both cost less due to being reconditioned so that helps.

    Which one did your cats like better? I like the weight feature on LR4. I ended up getting LR4 because I wanted one w/a large entrance. And my LR4 doesn't look anything like yours as far as cleanliness after 6 mo with 3 cats. Pretty clean actually. I guess different people have different experiences. I haven't had any problems w/it except sometimes cats kick litter in the sensors, which is a pain. I don't know if the Leo loo 2 has those? If it fails maybe will get Leo's Loo Too (now that they are all used to litter robots).

    Thank you for comparing these! I was about to order the litter robot 4 when I saw several comments on social media about customer service not only being poor but completely unresponsive, even shutting down their phones completely…. Apparently the ceo sent an apology but But many people were still waiting for replies weeks later…. Yikes. Then I read more comments from people who have had failure issues very early on, some not even working from day one. I DONT like the large opening of the robot4 because of obvious reasons…. Smell, appearance, etc…. But there aren’t many alternatives. I asked in online groups and was directed to the Leo’s loo too. Their reviews seem so much better and customer service appears to be more responsive but I still haven’t decided between the two…. I don’t really care about much except price, performance, extended warranty and customer service….

    After watching the video I am also seriously thinking of Leo but some last doubts exist - I have to leave both in same room so wonder whether my cat will prefer the wider opening. Also is the Leo big enough for an 19 lb female? I saw some posts that it is great for small/medium sized cats. I plan to have 2 for one cat. Already have the LR3 and it had the drum getting stuck issue once. That’s a serious drawback if we are out of town. Plan to add one more - either a Leo or maybe just another LR3. The LR4 seems to have the same issue of sensor so why waste more $$

    I must say GREAT REVIEW!!!!!!!! You know I've had actually every iteration except for the latest version of litter robot I bought my 1st little robot one before they even had the window at least 16 years ago and I've had 2 of that iteration. The litter robot 2 in my opinion was their best design it had sensors but it would continue to function and go back to home. With maybe it an old clump of litter that got stuck and then it got unstuck and then it ended up in the pile of litter and I'm OK with that because at least The cats have somewhere to go if you're not home and can't reset it. The litter robot 3 is the one I've had for about the last year and it's been nothing but a headache and I've come so close to throwing them out the window and the thing is as I didn't buy 1 I didn't buy 2 I bought 3 new ones last year of litter robot 3 connect and it has gotten me so angry That I've actually kicked it around the room! And I've never ever in 63 years have I ever done something Like that to anything in my life, especially that I've spent that kind of money on. But yeah I've gotten really zero support I've contacted them I got an email back and telling me that oh you're warranties running out January 6th and it's been crickets ever since so yeah they let my warranty run out did not take care of it and I've tried the hacks that I found for covering up the litter robot 3's pinch sensor and I would say 50% it works, but when I have to check my litter Box 3 times A-day That's more than when I had a scoopable standard Basic plastic Box with no mechanism. I appreciate the fact that you really were unbiased. Me my video would say NO, NOT NOW NOT EVER CHOOSE LITTER ROBOT AGAIN.

    Thank you so much for the awesome review. The price on the LLT has come up and is now about the same as the LR4, so trying to decide if I want to go for it. I have to agree with you re: LR4’s support. I actually ordered a LR4 in November for delivery before/by Christmas. On the delivery day (second week of December), it went into limbo with FedEx. Contacted LR4’s support and was told that the FedEx hub was experiencing delays and to let them know if no receipt within 3 business days. No receipt via FedEx so contacted LR4 again with no response. Reached out again and was told a replacement would be sent priority with delivery by 12/30. Annnnd that didn’t happen. I really like your review! I found it because I'm having issues with my 3 weeks old LR4, after the third time it has been replace, first one came with a crack from front to back, second one sensor would not work well, and this one the third one has issues with the basket weight and after spending 20 min waiting for someone to answer the phone, asked for a manager had to wait for manager to call back and she called pretty quick extended the trial period send me a gift package and sent me an email with all trouble shutting steps of your other LR$ video, fingers cross I clean the sensors and will give it three days to see how it works. Like somethings for the Leo's Loo Too, But that pup mess on the trey at the bottom and because of that basket design through me off, one thing, My LR4 doesn't get that dirty inside, that could be how much cat digs and covers pee and poop , I have set mine at 7min. Also I have an 18 year old cat and I would picture any old cat Struggling entering the small hole, plus it sits higher, the dripping of pee; I have not have an issue once, my cats walked in move around dig and usually don't pee on the front, but sides or back. Fingers cross, this thing works!. thanks again for your sincere review.

    17:23 I have 7 cats & 4 litter robot 3s - I vacuum multiple times a day and I have to wash my dyson's filter at least monthly.
    With regard to LR maintence, all four have needed circuit board & sensor replacments. one of my LRs has recently been giving constant error codes and has been replaced by a litter box, and is waiting in the garage for me to troubleshoot to see if it will need another new circuit board & sensor. I'm considering an altenative if the board & sensor are shot.

      I wanted to add that having to replace the sensors every year or so isn't necessarily a complaint. Cat urine, poops, and litter dust create a harsh environment, so with the pinch and drawer-full sensors being near the waste drawer, it means those parts are going to take abuse. Being able to repair a $550 item myself with a $30 part is actually a selling point because it avoids obsolescence or having to dump a malfunctioning unit into a landfill. I just wanted share that part of my experience. A fully functional LR3 is a great thing and I don't regret my purchase

    Hi there! I have the LR4. At first, I loved it. Was tons better than the standard, rectangular cat box I had. BUT, the problem that I'm having is my cat is a 'high' pee-er. He somehow pees right through the dump shute at the top of the drum. The pee runs down through the unit into the nooks of the base unit and also onto the floor. IT'S A MESS. Do you have any opinion on which unit you think is better for a high peeing cat? He has no health issues that would be causing this. Thank you! I've watched several of your videos.

    After doing research on automatic litter boxes online, I bought the Leo's Loo Too. I have never owned an automatic litter box. I have had my LLT for just over one year. I have 2 cats. They both took to it right away and didn't even want to use their old box. My only complaint is the size of the opening to the storage box and that it does tell you a little too late when it is full. The problems I've encountered with both these designs is the rubber litterbox floor. Cats tear them up over time. Then 2 things happen. First, litter starts sticking to the rubber and in a short time you have strong ammonia smell. Second, the holes in the rubber allow urine to leak underneath, this causes the metal weight to corrode and fall out of the rubber which results in: the rubber not "dropping" to dislodge stuck litter and urine seeping onto the drum track and motor.

    • @dontburnthehousedownvideos
      @dontburnthehousedownvideos  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1. The initial setup (to my knowledge) has to be done on a phone. There's only a single button on the LL2 so I'm not sure how much functionality there is without the app.
      2. The LR4 can go longer in between emptying because of the drawer design. The LL2 requires a "shake down" every 2 days or so because the waste piles up at the opening. The LR4 has a wider opening and allows it to fall more evenly in the drawer.

You've given me hope that LL2 may be just what I was looking for. Question... how many cats use your LL2 and how often do you have to empty the pan? How often do you need to top off their litter? Thanks for the comment! With 3 cats you'll definitely want to get 2 if you're leaving for 7-10 days at a time. And honestly, that might still be pushing it. I've found the best litter to use is cheap, clumping cat litter from Sam's club. Anything that's "lightweight" or "99% dust free" seems to track everywhere and wastes litter. I top it off every time I change the bag out. With 2 cats, that's 4-5 days. Sometimes I'll do a pan shake in the middle to level out the poo in the drawer so it holds more.
