I remember when the guys in my neighboorhood would walk down the street or the sidewalk blasting this song from their boomboxes, ( 80's baby) I so miss the 80's and 90's, everything was so much better back then, now its just blah!
Sad that we all have to grow old eventually... Thank you Kurtis Blow for ushering in the age of Hip-Hop, but back in your day it was a bit or a lot more 'dignified'. Hard, yet always flowing melody flow to it...pain, tears, joy, triumph all in one song...cool
October 1985, Bears were dominating with Payton and "the Fridge", green CTA buses ran through the city, I lived in Maywood, IL. no longer was I an only child as I learned that my brother was born.
Oooooh i remember back in the day, i had an crush on Kurtis Blow, He kept the brother together. Krush Groove, still watch the movie til this day, Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Me I am one of the scrubs giving it a thumbs up. It marked a point in time. If you just heard it now it will never have the impact it had when it came out and the song was on the radio.
This is one of the best rap records from that generation. Back then, rap was much closer to R&B. Kurtis Blow had a stage presence like a R&B singer. And he was singing. Songs had intro, bridges, music solos, outro, just like other music. Fast forward to today and commercial rap and also R&B is just a loop with no dynamics. It won't stand the test of time like this.
On this day in 1986 {January 11th} Kurtis Blow performed "If I Ruled The World" on the ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program, 'American Bandstand'... At the time "If I Ruled The World" was at position #20 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart, two weeks later it would peak at #16 {for 2 weeks}...
Would have loved to be there in the 80's and 90's!!! Defo born in the wrong time period, '89 baby, a lot of music history i still need to digg up, Sincerely from a fan, good upload.
😁Beautiful Kurtis Blow sharing his nature's spirit's richness by the attached 🎶 musical 🎶 🎶 joint's of entertainment's.😊👉✌Peace & respect to Kurtis Blow sharing such richness of his nature's spirit that played as an awwwwe-some hit throughout many 🎶 🎶 music 🎶 outlets during the days the joint were being played as new, plays importance in my life.😘
My 9 year old twins (son and daughter) danced off of Kurtis Blow's "Basketball." I not only told them that THIS is the kind of rap that they should listen to...but daddy plan on playing nothin' but OLD SCHOOL music (1960s - 1990s including a lot of 80s rap) the next cookout that I host. We have to keep old school in our hearts and pass it to the younger generation so that they understand that music is more than the redundant crap that is played today.
in 1985 i really got introduced to this music.im 41 now and i look back on all the classic rap music like run dmc and kurtis blow, ll kool j and many more and wonder where did all the good music go.
I was still a new kat back then, but as a kid from the 70s I felt the 80s and 90s in full force. Miss them times when music was music and dollars and cents were secondary.
I remember this song from an old VHS that my parents had with a Best of the 80's episode that was recorded over a Def Comedy show. I was born in the 90s and this was one of my favorites growing up.
I remember buying the 12" in HMV on oxford street on pay day, just thought it was the best.... still do...house music was about to take over the world.

They also sampled friends from Whoodini and blended it
@@DaRendogxtreme . And blended it with "Walked Right Up to the Sun" by The Delfonics.

To me, this is like Kurtis Blow's swansong hit.
Let's all pray for him as he's recovering from a stroke he had since Saturday.
Actually my brother he had a heart attack.
Wait is he still alive? Shit...I thought he died. Must’ve been confused or somethin
He’s going into surgery tomorrow 🙏🏽 IG: @kurtisblow

When many people think of rappers who made rap music what it is today, Kurtis Blow usually does not come up. Always rappers who came out after 1986.
