In that case, I cannot be more thankful for having met not one or two, but a few dozen Russians of various ethnicities, former Soviet men and Russian youth who came to Canada seeking something new while holding firmly to their culture, customs, and traditions.

Russia's current problem is rapid Islamization. Putin is trying to cross a hedgehog, a snake and a pike. The hedgehog of Orthodoxy has its needles cut off so that it does not stab the pike of Judaism and the snake of Islamism. He does not file the pike's teeth, and he does not cut off the snake's tail.
I lived for 3 years in a monastery in Zadonsk, Lipetsk region. I became disillusioned with the faith and left the monastery. I can say that outside the walls of the monastery I met only one whole soul believer. I live on the outskirts of a provincial center and there are two temples within walking distance of me. But this is my personal experience.
I despise Kirill, he worked for the Chekists under the Soviets, he sold vodka and cigarettes in the 90s, and he was entrusted with the position of Patriarch as a proven cadre. Sometimes I have sad thoughts that Stalin restored the church by pouring too much of the poison of communism into it and deprived it of grace. But I do not fall into despondency, I keep my temple in myself. God bless you.

Did not know that about Kirill. I have many Eastern Orthodox acquaintances. I may bring this up and see what their take on it is.
