I've been looking at other demo videos on TH-cam. This gentleman's playing skills makes this pedal sound brilliant and unlike most of the other video demonstrations of this pedal actually shows just how musical and truly useful the M5 can be.
An interesting fact. The M5 will work on less than 300ma at 9 volts. It’s only if you use midi that it needs the extra juice. I’ve had one on every board I’ve done for the last decade. A brilliant Swiss Army knife pedal.
Nice to know! Where in the line do you run yours? I know the typical “what effect you use most” I run front of amp usually. Mainly use drive and delays. Want the M5 to fill the gap with some more oddball stuff. Chorus, phase, synths. Stuff I don’t typically use. But would like to have the option of. Thinking after drives before my tremolo then delays and reverb.
Figure most of my use would be modulation hence why I feel between drives and delays would work. But since you’ve used them on numerous boards, would like your input
I've toured with the M5 on my board. Being the guy who is not looking for sound landscapes, but some subtle effects here and there, the pedal does an awesome job. All effects are top notch and it's great to have so many different facettes at hand in one box.
One has been on my board a at least a couple years. It’s mainly my reverb, but the model of the CE-1 is amazing. Also use the dimension effect a good bit. It’s awesome in stereo.
I would buy one if they came with skills like that. Jack's playing is almost magical... there is a sense of calm, like the same calming effect when I listen to Satriani.
Great video. I needed convincing! Just grabbed a used one at my local GC for $89. I gotta say, it's super easy to navigate and feels like each setting is it's own tweakable pedal. Rotary is a little limited without adjustable variable speeds, chorus options are limited, but the filter effects can really spice things up. That mixer knob really compensates for any lackluster qualities!
Just, literally one of the best pedals ever made. For the cost of a goodish delay you get a greatish everything. Worth noting, touring people, that this thing will not die; you can just kick it and kick it. Mine survived an entire beer all over it.
Echo Platter Delay and Tube Driver... best stuff I heard from that box. Not sure why but Tube Driver sounded warmer and smoother in my rig, pretty Eric Johnsonesque. Everybody needs to have one at this price IMO.
The M5 is a tank. I toured with the M9 for years. The ODs and distortions aren’t that great but everything else is great. I loved the looper in the M9 and the tuner.
The od and distortion are great. You need a proper ear practice to tweak.. know about the speaker reaction is a must before using multi effects.. they all just good..

Great video, Fantastic pedal, I have owned one for many years - great to see it getting some attention. The 63 spring reverb is worth it on its own. It can fit anywhere on your board, you can switch from true to buffered bypass. I've seen them sell new for as little as £70 in the past. There are 24 preset spaces. I could do with a little 2 or 4 button midi switch to toggle presets.
I don't use mod FX regularly but I need a chorus, flanger, phaser for the odd song but don't want to fill my board with those pedals which would be wasted space and money... You can get these fairly cheap these days, so amazing value for a lot of stuff.
Great review! I keep one at my board after the drives and before my delays and reverbs. My personal favorite effect is the Dimension chorus, I find it really pleasing and smooth, not over the top. Other than that, nowadays I've been using the tuner, some Wahs and the tremolo, and I also like to use an expression pedal with it so I can control the parameters of the effects, really handy.
yet again another amazing video! Interestingly enough, I uploaded a similar video about the M5 a couple of months ago but the title of the video was more of a bold statement and it went something like this : "The Most Important Pedal of The Past Decade". I thought sharing it on some forums would have been a great idea to open up a discussion but very soon, I saw a plethora of threads calling me out as a "Clickbaiter" even though the video didn't have an ounce of clickbait in it and it was just the title that was a tad exotic. Long story short, I was technically forced to change the title and yeah, why am I writing this? I don't know, just wanted to lay off some steam lol. Thank you so much for your content, cheers!
You should have kept the title, it IS one of the most important pedals of the last 10 years. If you look at the HX series the majority of the effects are from the M series pedals, they are calling them 'legacy FX'. So the advance of the HX is down to the development of the M series. The idiot Trolls having a go at you need to get back under their bridges where they belong.
Not sure there was any reason to change your title. Whether it is our isn't "one of...as per title", is your opinion, your video and people can think for themselves.
I used to have an M9. Very versatile unit with loads of features. The big downside (for me) is it introduced noise and noticeably sucked tone away from my amp.
I think the only true bypass is the m5 and not the other ms.... See Philip McKnight when he unplugged his m5 from the power supply the sound still comes from the pedal. That means is true bypass. But only the m5.
You can choose whether it is or not. The M5 has it selectable! Think trailing delays and what happens if you disengage the effect. If you want it tight, with no trail, select true bypass for an instant cut.
@@resterjphow do you select if it's true bypass or not? I'm a bit of a noob in a few areas of the m5. Also, should i be using the mono or other input output options? Thank you in advance ❤

Thanks for a brilliant presentation. As usual, your playing is awesome and the recording technique-impeccable. I have a question pertaining to this particular multieffect, which I hope you'll be able to answer. I've already got a ZOOM MS 70CDR, and if I bought the M5 I would use basically the effects falling into the same categories: Chorus-Delay-Reverb plus, possibly, some of the filter effects. I'm not sure whether you're familiar with the ZOOM; if so, do you think I'd get better sound quality from the M5? Thanks so much in advance.

I'd like to make an official complaint. I have that very guitar, and it sounds nothing like this. In fact, it sounds terrible when I play. Must be faulty!
If you're using it for the overdrive/distortion, at the beginning. If you're using it for the delays or reverbs, probably at the end. But you should experiment and let your ears be the judge
That's basically the HX stomp. I got one for messing around at home, but ended up putting it onto a pedaltrain nano+ with a couple of drive pedals. The HX stomp makes a killer multi-fx for that as long as you dont need separate footswitches for each effect.
Did you take the feet off? I've heard multiple people say that the screws are slightly too long and if you take the feet off it can short out the pedal.

Just because it’s 10 year old technology doesn’t mean it’s bad. It might have been out for a while but it’s things like this that let people who may have not seen this years ago that let them know it’s our there. I just added this to my board last week and it’s everything I was missing
