    I’ve just received a used one today via EBay, I’ve wanted one for sometime cos as mentioned it has pretty much every type effect you could ever need, for t just saves on going out and buying 20, 40 individual pedals for particular FX that ends up cost a fortune and just increases those possible problems with hum, interference, tone loss, dicky cables the more pedals you add in your chain. Every player should get one of these for ease of use, great sounding FX, built to last, just a damn excellent bit for the price whether you buy new or used, got mine on EBay in UK for £40!!!!!! Yep £40!!!!! a proper bargain!! You’ll pretty much have to mow pay around £30 for at least one budget FX pedal, so it’s a no brainier! Thanks for your video mate keepbup your great work.

      @@MadManMusic nice one bro I’m loving it!! The best £40 ever spent on music gear ever!! The FX sound lovely, great delays, reverbs, filters, the modulations for me are excellent, the warmth, depth, colour, timbre they give are definitely top notch!
      I’ve heard so many say that the drives/distortions or the weakest area and sound poor compared to individual pedals, I don’t profess to be a master of drives etc but the ones in the M5 I’ve used so far such as the Facial Fuzz, Classic Distortion (RAT), Ictave Fuzz all seem to work well enough for me and dialling in Editing parameters seem to sound decent enough and I can’t see anyone in the crowd at future gigs turning round saying the guitars were good but that overdrive or distortion effect he was using sound poor and he should be using a Klon, Vemuram Jan Ray, Timmy, OCD, Ibanez TS9, Strymon Sunset etc they wouldn’t have clue and I doubt many decent guitar players with great setups would be able to slate the sounds I’ve dialled in either, I’m happy to work with the gear I have at my disposal and create the best tones I can, and more often than not great sounding drives can be achieved spending a bit of time creating and editing parameters to personalise your own individual sounding guitar tones and I definitely won’t get hung up cos I’ve not paid 5L for a Klon or waited 4 years to get a king of Tone. I’m pretty certain the M5 will definitely be a main stay in my guitar setup for a very long time if not forever .

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re absolutely right! No one is going to know the difference, especially if you use it well.
      I dont think dialing in tone is rocket science. Its just being aware of frequencies or sounds that are unpleasant. And with as many tools as you have at your disposal in this one pedal alone the jobs half way done!
      Im glad you’re enjoying it! 💪🏼

      @@MadManMusic glad you said it dialling in tone and editing parameters isn’t rocket science I just find so many people expect to click on presets and expect them to sound great immediately, but we all like different sounds so editing parameters to develop your own sound is being creative and you learn plenty and how things will react with other things giving very different results. On the M5 many of the effects already sound really good anyway there’s not to much editing ti be done.

    I gassed for this pedal when it came out and I still use it to this day. The midi control is slick, it tracks expression and on/off controls really quickly. I'd say the dirt sounds are the worst part, they have that upper mids harshness like old boss multifx used to have. And the lack of a volume/sensitivity control on some fx is a pain but I'd still 100% recommend it.

    • @MadManMusic

      I love this little guy! Considering I’m always using it with an EVH, I really only use it in two different situations.
      1- In front of the amp as a all in one Gate/Tuner/OverDrive.
      Or 2 - In the FX Loop as a MIDI Programable Delay/Reverb.
      Just these two setups make this thing completely Invaluable in my Collection!

      @@MadManMusic I just built a patch switcher for it with an Arduino that also has a switch that ramps the expression control up and down. I can turn the pedal on momentarily too or a combination of both. Hey I’m looking for something to give my clean channel some effects, I like my distorted tone as it is, and the clean channel isn’t bad but I’d like to add maybe some reverb, some delay, etc, is this pedal capable of that? I hope my question is clear with what I’m trying to ask lol.

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for the question.
      The M5 Models every type of Guitar Effect including Delays and Reverbs.
      However, keep in mind this Pedal will only allow you to use 1 Effect at a time. So Just Delay or Just Reverb.
      And in order to only use the effect on just the Clean Channel you'll need some sort of switching system to control the pedal On and Off when you change between Clean and Dirty. (MIDI)
      Its totally Doable. But it will be slightly more complicated if you're trying to change many things at once.
      I hope that helps!

    I have a question, is it possible to keep the settings in M5 of individual effects (not presets mode!) such as equalizer or tone in overdrive.
    In setup I have auto preservation settings, but still when I change and go/return the settings remain firm.
    Maybe I am misunderstanding, but shouldn't the change of settings be saved according to the user and setup?

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its my understanding that this “Setting Preservation” setting is when you change the settings of a saved preset.
      So 1-24 if you make an adjustment it will automatically save it if you change the Patch..
      But it may not save it permanently, it may only hold the info until the unit is powered off unless it’s manually saved..
      Hopefully that’s helpful.. this is a tricky one and I’m currently out on tour so I dont have my M5 nearby to try it.

    I have a unique dilemma you may be able to help with. I have a multi-effect unit (GT100) with midi ins and outs. I also have the Line6 M5 with midi ins and outs. I would like them to communicate so i can use the Line6 (with Expression pedal) to act as a controller for the Boss GT-100s Wah. I realize that I could simply attach the Exp pedal directly to the GT-100, but it would take up a sub ctrl jack that i need for something else. I suppose the question is, will the Line 6 M5 transmit expression pedal data via midi, to be received by a Boss Gt-100 which is also a programmable midi controller. You are spot on about the M5, its visible on lots of pro-boards too. Thanks Brother, Liked and Subscribed!

      Hey Thanks for Joinin the Crew and for the Question!
      Your idea is a little complicated... but not really impossible..
      The issue i think you’ll have (off the top of my head) is that the Expression Pedal Options are Limited on the M5.. you may not be able to designate a CC to it to control something else..
      You’ll have to go into the settings menu by holding the Tuner Button and Pressing the Select button on the top left.
      Make sure that the Midi channels match with your other pedal and see if that works...
      Otherwise you’ll need a separate controller like this Decibel Eleven Switch Dr I’m using. I have a 3rd expression pedal connected to my Line 6 HX Effects... but thats possible because both units have deep Midi options..
      Im sorry if thats not so helpful... but if you do manage to make it work, be sure to come back and let us know!

      Hi, the M5 transmits program changes when you change presets on it, but if you send it a program change it doesn't send it back out. So, I don't think using the analog expression pedal would make it transmit midi expression data. And even if it did you'd have to make sure the cc messages were the same on the GT.

      the m5 only receives and bypass midi messages, you need a host that commands in order to do that. I have a boss ms 3 to control al my midi devices with the expresion pedal attached to the ms 3. its grate but i still preffer to have an outboard wha. also consider that if you use a volume pedal option on the expresion pedal you have to think how to swing from wha on by default or toggle on of with a button and not kill your sound once you get out of the effect. this is the same with pitch shift, by default volumen on 100% is all the way low, that octave high by default on the pitch shifter patch.

My favorite amp so far is 5153 , sounds heavy and clear even in standard E tuning . But that is why i wonder if it worth buying 1600euros+ processor instead of a stomp hellix :D . Anyway i'll keep it for when stages will become legal again for the real use.. one day yeh '^^

      I used to own a Helix for a short period of time, i used to call it the Netflix of guitar effects. I was spending more time to browse and try combinations than actually playing guitar. I sold it a month later and get back to pedals. I play guitar way more since i've sold it... Maybe we should get back to DVD rental in order to see more movies.

      @@YouglyMusic nice coparison haha , actually you are right but it all depends on your approach , i personnaly refuse to tweak too much precisely for the fact that the ratio playing/sound research is not great .. so i choose a sound made by others , then i play , so simple :p i prefere work on my skills and ideas for now ^^

    I was honestly gonna buy one until I realized you can only use one effect at a time...guess I'll save up for the M9 or M13

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those Require a Specific Power Supply that cant be swapped out.
      So if you’re using a Power Supply to power all the pedals on your board the M9 or M13 will have to be plugged in on its own.
      The M5 just needs 300mA which most pedal board power supplies are capable of.
      Again, like I mentioned in the video, this is for someone that needs to drop in a specific effect from time to time without having to buy 1000 pedals. Or it works well for the “Minimalist”. Like what I use with Pro-Pain.
      But if you need more, I would suggest a Helix HX Effects over the M9 or M13. It requires the same specific power supply, but you get WAY more out of it.

    • @christopherdaley301

      @@MadManMusic Thanks for the tip! The helix is close to the price point of the M13 too, so no reason not to get the Helix instead

      HA! I know this chain of events!
      I had the M9 originally! its awesome!
      The only thing I didn't like about the M9 is that has that huge Line 6 brick power supply that you're supposed to use with it specifically... I had to use it when I owned mine because it wouldn't function properly without it, no matter what power supply I tried to run with it on my board.. but I've had friends that managed to make work.. "Supposedly". I dunno. I was using it to its fullest.. So I could easily see and hear the difference.. Not sure they were.
      Anywho, enjoy it!!

      Really?? I'm sorry, I have experienced any issue with mine, I've had it for ages.

    M5 or m9?

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally, the M5 is easier to use on “my” pedalboard. It can be powered by my pedal power supply and controlled by my MIDI controller.
      However the M9 is great in a whole different way. BUT I’d recommend the Helix HX Effects instead of the M9 or M13 if you can afford it.

      @@MadManMusic So can you have a noise gate on and then let’s say a reverb?

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!
      And the gate can be specifically adjusted for each preset you save! Its just a little bit of a pain to get to the gate settings as its in the System Menu. But once you know where to find it, you’re good. Just a few button pressed and boom.
      Also the tuner is available any time bu long pressing one of the foot switches.
      For the price, you cant beat this pedal!

      @thomasmason782 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MadManMusic That’s so awesome!! Thank you for an amazing reply. Does the gate apply just for the pedal or for the entire signal going into it? I want to use it at the end of my chain as a reverb, will the noise gate cancel the hum of the overdrives earlier in my chain?

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! It will cut the amp/overdrive noise.
      But be sure to take some time to really dial in the sensitivity so you dont lose so much sustain from the gate choking your signal that deep in the signal path.
      It’s totally normal to use 2 Gates, one First (directly after a tuner) and one FIRST in your FX Loop. Just gotta watch that second one doesnt kill your cleans cuz its set to overdrives.
      Know what I mean??
      Anywho, let us know if you pick one up!!
