Thank you so much for breaking this video in parts so I could finally understand how to export the subtitle style for other project. Couldn't find the answer for a while.
thank you so much ( urakoze cyane in Kinyarwanda language in East African country). I'm beginner in adobe premier pro. as I see you will be my teacher.
Thanks Jason! The Command+Option+C hotkey is really handy, however it would be super great if the newly added caption would be selected automatically, so that we can type immediately, rather rather than needing manually double-click it first.
Hi Jason, what if I would like to have multiple track at the same time as I am trying to show 2 languages, top and bottom, with both using different fonts. I have not been able to find a way to do that as I could only have 1 caption track showing each time. My current solution is to have 1caption track for English and text for other languages.
I am suffering from the same question too Since I have successfully shown two languages subtitles (one top and one bottom) before … but suddenly today I realise I cannot show both at the same time, dont know how to solve the problem
Ran into the same issue today. Currently no solution for this, other than changing the font/attributes individually for each clip. There needs to be the ability to unhide when using multiple caption layers.
Awesome video my man. Great intro into captions. I just picked up a project where they want me to make edits and add captions and I was rolling my eyes but now they are just alil misty because it isnt going to be a pain after all! LOL
Thanks for the vid! I found out how to create captions but was trying to find out how to save the style settings so I wouldnt have to go and edit each caption style! Glad I found this vid :)
Since you did the cool search function, it would be very effective to allow for "mark all" next to "replace all". Then, with this selection, I could change my 528 lines with an bracket to italics in one go.
How do I make captions that are the same over multiple timelines? For example, so I only have to edit text changes in one to update in all timelines?? I have 20 or so that are essentially the same but dont want to change the text 20 times. Anyone got any Ideas? I was thinking to make them in one timeline then use that as a master sub timeline that can be placed on top like a precomp / nest. but thought there might be a more efiecne tway of doing it?????
Great new feature! Thanks Adobe, Thanks Jason! I need to show 2 Captions (C1 and C2) at the same time... But the system doesn't allow me. Why? It should be simple? did I get anything wrong?
“I said a prayer for you today and know God must have heard. I felt the answer in my heart although he spoke no word! I didn’t ask for wealth or fame (I knew you wouldn’t mind). I asked him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind! I asked that he be near you at the start of each new day; To grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way! I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small. But it was for his loving care I prayed the most of all!” In Jesus name
Is there no feature to export captions to interpret the "in point" as TC 00: 00: 00 (ignoring leader and slate), since MP4s don't carry a timecode track? Professionally, we have leader / slates / 2-beep before the program. This means that timecode before the program needs to be in the 59th minute, so the program can start at TC 1: 00: 00: 00. The major problem is when we export unslated for web, MP4 files are assumed to start at 00, and the exported SRT wants to wait for the 1-hour mark. The only (clumsy) workarounds seem to be creating a duplicate of every master sequence with modified 00 timecode, or manually editing all the TC values in exported SRT files. I hoped the new captioning workflow had a solution.
Have you found a solution to this? I'm incredibly shocked that this wasn't taken into account and it's very very clumsy indeed trying to embed the .srt in an MP4 after Premier export.
How can you export two caption files in the same video? I have been able to embed both english and spanish but for distribution, we want to have one file with both captions in it? I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Any help is appreciated.
Best way to do this is to use a third-party tool. There are a few out there that will take the (SRT) captions files that Premiere creates externally and can merge two or more together on top of a single video.
Thanks for this -however, can you apply any effects to that Subtitle track? I'd like to apply a "Corner Pin" to it to move it and transform it around, but I can't figure out a way to do so... Any idea?
This is such a great resource, thank you! I'm wondering if there is a simpler way to split subtitles; I imported and SRT file from a transcription service (Temi), and all the captions are two lines long. I need them to be a single line, and manually splitting them all is a really long process. I can't figure out a way to automate this though, any ideas?
Excellent feature and tutorial... Thanks a lot Jason. I hope this feature does not cause problems with different languages and special characters in those languages.
Much appreciated, Gökhan. Re: languages w/special characters... let me know if you have issues and I can connect you directly w/support. At present, I haven't yet heard any (significant) issues that couldn't be addressed quickly; but this is 'V1' of this caption support, so please keep me posted and let me know if you have any issues.
Wonderful stuff. Question. After I make a transcript, then captions, then I clean up captions with lenght and spelling: How do I get the the transcript to reflect what I did in captions, words-wise??
It's really a great feature. I've been working with it a bit, still trying to burn the keyboard shortcuts into my brain. I was hoping you'd also touch on the transcribe feature. Going to do some of my own testing on that later this morning ...
As Transcribe hasn't been released yet, this video was meant to showcase Captions as a stand-alone. Transcription will likely come to public release some time later this year.
great video... however I don't use captions and have a question.. the CAPTION panel opens every single time I open a clip to edit from.. I have to spend too much time closing it to get my TL real estate back to where I like it. I do not need to work on captions...so how can I stop it from opening each time I select a clip to work on? I'm glad others can use this...but for those that don't I'm still looking for a setting to stop it from opening on me. thanks
Love this video. I've come up with a challenge and I can't seem to find solutions anywhere. My transcript timecode doesn't match the video. Its a few second delayed. How do I fix that?
Great video. Please can you explain how to adjust the angle of the caption/sub title text. Adobe help staff say there is no such feature but I have seen people do it. So there must be some way to change the angle of the text like you can with the old legacy text that you can rotate the text. Where is this for captions or sub titles? Or do you need some sort of plug in to do it?Many Thanks.
I just wanted to know you converting English into difference languages? example, English to Spanish so the text would in Spanish. Look forward for your video. Thank You!
Hi this video was absolutely helpful, especially c1 and c2.thank you🏵️🙏 just I have a question. how can I add effects to my caption? When I click on my caption I have nothing in effect control panel.
Thanks Jason. Very helpful. I need two or three subtitle tracks for different styles of captions positioned on different sequence clips. I can create new ones thanks, but only seem to be able to toggle between them, rather than have them all showing as we move through the clips. Any solutions, please?
Hi, I have a requirement that is to embed CEA 608/ CEA 708 into MPEG format. I don't see the "embed" option while rendering to MPEG format which I get while rendering to .mov format. Could you help me, please?
When exporting an HDR video, how do you stop white subs from being a blinding 1000 nits? I've selected 100 for 'HDR graphics white (nits)' in Media Encoder, but that doesn't limit them.
I find that embedding captions, which I need to do for certain broadcast outlets, causes the the captions to jump around. They look good in Premiere but when I export and drag the file back in to take a look, they move from side to side? Any thoughts or has anyone else experienced this?
This was really great. Excellent and easy to follow instruction. I ran into one problem. When I export .SRT sidecar file, even when I select to "Include SRT styling", the text style that I created does not appear. For example, I chose to have a background color for the captions, but it doesn't appear when I export the sidecar file. It only appears when I embed the captions in the video. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Stefani. Where are you uploading the SRT to? Some/many destinations do not support styling (they'll default to the caption standard). And even some that *do* support SRT styling will only support specific colors/options (largely for the text itself). I'm not sure if the background color option is a supported style in most (social media-type) destinations (unless you burn-in, as you described). Maybe I need a little more info...
this feature is already broken. it wont let me edit the transcription anymore (it worked for the last month). It also no longer does anything when i click create captions.
Is there a way to change settings so every line of text has its own box like it was in the version befor instead of having just one big box that only orients on the longer line?
Hi Jason, i edit for broadcast and i use .SCC captions. When i import the .SCC, Premiere put them OUT of the safe margings and the roll-up doesn't work and also skip a line of text here and there. Everything was working fine in Adobe Premiere 2020. Is there a way to fix that? Thank you!
Great video! Helped me a lot, one only doubt I had is how I can export two different subtitle tracks with two diferent styles but as one only .srt archive, there is a way?
sure thing! re: musical symbols in subtitles... there are *some* fonts that will allow this; some do not. I'm not sure which, but I'd start with some of the standard ones. If you're on a mac, you can use the 'Show Emojis and Symbols' viewer to identify the keystroke that produces the musical note. I've used them (in a video or two) but can't remember which font it was.
Hey Jason! Love your channel I had a question about this great new feature. Do you know if there a workflow where I can keep all the speech to text data (and timing) and use custom "Essential Graphics" .mogrt files built from after effects files? Thanks a ton!
hey and thank you for this amazing video. I'm having a wired problem. when I add captions to my video which is about 1 minute long everything is fine and normal. but when I export it and play it again (tried with all kinds of media players) the caption shakes with every move of the subject in the video !!!. for example, if the man brings his arm up the caption shakes when the arm is passing through it. IDK what to do this is soooo wired. I need help. thank you in advance
very clear and super interesting tutorial. How can I activate additional language versions in the transcription settings of Premiere Pro such as Dutch?
In the previous version of Premiere Pro, I was able to add multiple captions and make them visible in order to have English/Spanish on screen. But in the latest version only one track of captioning is available. This makes it hard for those of us who are working on making our videos accessible to multiple audiences. Please bring back the ability to have multiple tracks of captioning visible at the same time. ¿Does anyone have a solution for this issue?
it would be great if you find out how to create fade in and out to the subtitles, thumbs up! thanks for the video! i've found this method from of a comment of another user in a video related to this topic, maybe u can be the first youtuber on try this and make the tutorial for us: ----------------------------------------------------------- 1) Duplicate your sequence and delete everything in that sequence except for the subs. 2) Nest the subs (NEW SEQUENCE FROM CLIP). 3) Insert your nested SUBS in your original sequence and make sure to place it above your footage in the hierarchy. (Also delete/hide your original subs as you don't need them anymore) Now you can apply whatever effects you want as your subs are nested.
as mentioned, fades are not part of the captioning specs; so on the actual 'caption blocks', fades cannot be applied. Yes, if you nest a sequence of subtitles and embed them in another, you can apply a global fade in/fade out (or any other effect).
Hi Jason--thanks! All clear... BUT something is not working right. When I click into the content of subtitle text in the upper right corner of that panel, what opens are additional options for background and style and font. However, all of these options disappear when I click on the Essential Graphics panel to select all text by Command+A (which then closes the upper right corner panel of additional options). So, then I cannot make background or style adjustments if all text are clicked. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
Having an issue with captions not updating. I create my first caption and adjust the font, color, background, etc. and save that as a new style. But when I go to add the next caption, it is back to the default settings and I have to adjust each caption to the desired font, color, background etc. This gets very time consuming on a long video. Is there something I'm missing?? Thanks for the great videos!!
Can someone help me? How can I efficiently export the same video with subtitles in multiple languages burnt into the video using premier pro export queue. If I enable the English subtitles, add it to export queue for subtitles burnt in video and then enable Spanish subtitles and disable English then add it to export queue for burn in video, when I hit play on export queue, will I get 2 videos, one with English captions and the other with Spanish captions burnt into them?
Thanks, Jason! This saved me on a last minute job which became 3 last minute jobs and I was able to get them all done in time.
Thank you so much for breaking this video in parts so I could finally understand how to export the subtitle style for other project. Couldn't find the answer for a while.

Really great walk through of the caption feature. Pragmatically oriented and easy to follow - thx Jason!
CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH! Exporting the track style just saved me hours with a client #legend

Excellent new feature. Thanks for demonstrating it so eloquently.
My pleasure, Blair. Thank you so much for the nice comment.
@@jasonlevinevideo nice upload, may i ask, can you animate the Captions to something like those in Titles?
Say I wanted to add captions to two people talking... How do I add a second caption on top of it to cover both people talking at the same time??
Even though I checked "include srt styling", it's not exported at all.
Can anybody help me or have the same problem?

I’d like to learn how to do funky motion captions more easily in 360 and stereoscopic… how bout some super detailed tutes on that? :)

You're welcome!
How to edit the left-side timecode in Adobe Premiere Pro cc 2024?
Is it possible to export a video with two different closed captions, so that the viewer is able to choose?
In the previous version of Premiere Pro, I was able to add multiple captions and make them visible in order to have English/Spanish on screen. But in the latest version only one track of captioning is available.
This makes it hard for those of us who are working on making our videos accessible to multiple audiences. Please bring back the ability to have multiple tracks of captioning visible at the same time.
¿Does anyone have a solution for this issue?
it would be great if you find out how to create fade in and out to the subtitles, thumbs up!
thanks for the video!
i've found this method from of a comment of another user in a video related to this topic, maybe u can be the first youtuber on try this and make the tutorial for us:
-----------------------------------------------------------
1) Duplicate your sequence and delete everything in that sequence except for the subs.
2) Nest the subs (NEW SEQUENCE FROM CLIP).
3) Insert your nested SUBS in your original sequence and make sure to place it above your footage in the hierarchy. (Also delete/hide your original subs as you don't need them anymore)
Now you can apply whatever effects you want as your subs are nested.
as mentioned, fades are not part of the captioning specs; so on the actual 'caption blocks', fades cannot be applied. Yes, if you nest a sequence of subtitles and embed them in another, you can apply a global fade in/fade out (or any other effect).
Hey Jason, is 'selection follows playhead' supposed to work with captions? I can't seem to make it work like it does for video clips.
Thank you for making this. Super helpful. Just curious why you didn't use the Transcribe sequence option or is that for another day? Ha!
It wasn't available at the time. I'll be covering auto-transcription in a new livestream this Friday,10/1
Thanks for the great videos!!
now how do you delete/replace a track style?
Thank You For Help🙏
Really great video
Glad you enjoyed it
Can someone help me? How can I efficiently export the same video with subtitles in multiple languages burnt into the video using premier pro export queue. If I enable the English subtitles, add it to export queue for subtitles burnt in video and then enable Spanish subtitles and disable English then add it to export queue for burn in video, when I hit play on export queue, will I get 2 videos, one with English captions and the other with Spanish captions burnt into them?
