What's So Great about Fortitude?

  • Fortitude is the virtuous mean between brashness and cowardice. In this video, Bobby Angel gives a few examples of people who showed us this virtue.
St. Maximillian Kolbe exhibited fortitude throughout his life, but especially when he gave up his life for a fellow prisoner.
Cardinal Nguyen Van Thuan of Vietnam, who endured thirteen years in a Communist prison camp, showed fortitude with a peace firmly anchored in the gospel.
Fortitude is not fueled by hate or malice, but love. Let’s stand strong in Christ, and let his peace be our strength.
“Fortitude is the moral virtue that ensures firmness in difficulties and constancy in the pursuit of the good. It strengthens the resolve to resist temptations and to overcome obstacles in the moral life. The virtue of fortitude enables one to conquer fear, even fear of death, and to face trials and persecutions. It disposes one even to renounce and sacrifice his life in defense of a just cause. "The Lord is my strength and my song." "In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (CCC 1808).

Fortitude was clearly shown by the disciples once they were baptised in Holy Spirit , we all should take heed of this incredible example of the power of God as we all have it as a free gift right now 1 Corinthians 6 v 17
    Thank you great message Bobby

We see fortitude in President from Ukraine how he embraces what is right and just regardless of all the obstacles he is facing. He could have easily hidden himself and escape from Putin’s war to protect himself. This is what came to mind. Thank you sir for this great message.

I had a strong experience with God this summer. It started with an influential person in my life who told me that I lacked Christ in my life. Once I realized that I needed to improve my relationship with God, I asked a friend for answers. I have been watching Ascension Presents since this experience. Day in and day out, this channel has helped me find an identity through the cross of Christ. Prayer, reading the Bible, and putting it into action has helped my relationships with my parents and those around me. I am more passionate about going to church and seek Christ. Currently, I am praying for an increase in courage and fortitude because every saint has a level of courage.

It's great to hear the emphasis on fortitude being the mean between two extremes: brashness and cowardice. You can be brave, but not without the prudence to know how far to go.

A good exercise I've found to build Fortitude, is asking God to give me the fortitude to enjoy ice cold water at the end of my morning shower for X number of breaths. Surrendering to the moment. Slowly day after day, week after week, the number of breaths increase. :) God Bless everyone, and thanks Bobby!

Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.
