If the deepest secret of God is that God is love, and he made you in his image and likeness, then what's the deepest secret about you? You are made for love.
What does it mean to be human? What was God’s original plan for humanity? For relationships? For marriage? For sex? Why is the body important?
In these four lessons, Fr. Mike leans into the teachings of St. John Paul II and Christopher West, unpacking the mysteries of the human heart, the human body, and relationships.
In this first lesson, we learn about the origins of the Theology of the Body, what it means, and why what we do with our bodies matters. We are taken back to the beginning in Genesis Chapters 1-3, the creation of Adam and Eve. Despite their differences as male and female, we discover how they were equal in terms of dignity yet complementary in their differences.
This series is brought to you for free by Fr. Mike's local ministry, bulldogCatholic. This series is worth more than $80, but bulldogCatholic is providing it free of cost to you. Please donate to support their mission! bulldogcatholic.org/seeds-of-...
If this information is as fascinating to you as it is to us, you can dive deeper with Christopher West and the @TheologyoftheBodyInstitute

Perhaps we can all stop bashing other religions. Buddhism points out that clinging is our suffering together with ego, which is true, in Christianity that would perhaps be translated "of the world" or "earthly things". Being a Protestant, but respectful to other religions, I recognize many things that are the same across religions, although they may be described differently. Another thing, why do Catholics believe Peter or Simon is the foundation for Jesus' church? Is his statement on Jesus in Matthew 16:16 "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" not just the formulation of the cephos/rock/foundation of Jesus' belief? What makes him a pontiff? He seems to be rather unremarkable in the acts of the apostles. If anyone should have qualified as a pope it would have been Paul.

@@wilderness4071 you say one should stop bashing other religions and then proceed to bash the disciple Peter by saying ''He seems to be rather unremarkable in the acts of the apostles". Christ uses the least expected for his glory, he uses the most broken, yes, even the most 'unremarkable' to use your words. Christ's power is revealed in weakness. Lord bless you.

@@angelosioannides8382 I believe you are mistaken, the bible says the meek will inherit the earth not the weak. It is obvious that Peter did not understand Jesus' teachings and he denies Christ 3 times. If you do not know yourselves, then you are in poverty, and it is you who are that poverty. The kingdom of God is in your midst. To the extent adversity removes your ego then maybe the weak can be led to the light, but how many do not instead chose to die in the streets rather than give up on their ego? Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

This theology of the body is so incredibly essential and the lack of understanding of this caused great harm to my life, but I am beyond grateful, I am eternally grateful that I heard some of this on youtube during the pandemic when we were all so isolated. The reason, logic, clarity of this purpose for self, relationships and respect for intimacy as God intended, changed my life for the better and helped me to reconcile parts of my life to Christ, and helped me to lay down a lot of burdens and confusion I had carried. It freed me from the painful misunderstanding of the worldly ideals about romance and sex and put all into proper healthy perspective. Humanity is starving to death spiritually from a lack of this most basic understanding of human nature as it should work in relationship to the God that created all life with beautiful purpose. Thank you

I’ve been there, as another person who primarily feels love through physical touch. I had about 5 years where I rarely received a hug, with the exception of a few genuinely caring ones from friends in times of stress. All of a sudden I would rediscover just how transformative it was to get one hug, and I would literally spend weeks hugging a pillow every time I went to sleep, trying to chase that feeling of genuine love. Then God sent me my now fiancé at a time that was perfect, and I don’t have to hug pillows anymore. He never leaves me without a hug long enough to forget what they’re like.
So I hope you find someone like that soon, because I believe that feeling loved is genuinely a spiritual need. I hope you dream of Jesus holding you close to His Sacred Heart. Imagine yourself there as often as you can. And I hope you find someone who embraces you so often that you never forget how it feels to be held close to someone’s heart.

At around 45 minutes I wondered what the talk would be from John Paul II to all the generations up til now who have chosen surgeries🖐. from changing our body types to preventing birth. Then I listened to the last part and heard the answer to my question. The "lie" is the same now as it was with the first man and woman and all the "ers". My husband and I talked about Eve this morning and her weaknes and ingratitude for paridise🤷😉. Then concluded our discussion as I remembered the words of the "Exultet". This is why I still have hope there will be marriage in the resurrection between man and woman. I know the New Testament says we won't be given into marriage but it was also an answer in response to the context of worldly law. He created husband and wife before the fall and this explanation makes perfect sense as to why that wouldn't be done away with later.

Well THAT just explained the whole experience we had during the abortion referendum in Ireland! When we handed out pro-life literature to the men of the country, you knew straight away what stance the women with them took. If the woman was pro-life, he got to read the leaflet. If the woman was opposed to it, the literature would either be snatched from his hand and either thrown away or handed back to us (those were the civil ones) OR the guy would be publicly and loudly berated by the woman for even taking it and told he shouldn't have a say; it wasn't his body. The majority of these men just stood back and let them. Many didn't even vote.
Some told them they could think for themselves and took the literature back. Usually there was a threat of her leaving the relationship. The He in the relationship "wasn't good enough" if he disagreed with her and she made him feel every bit of it. The She felt threatened and unloved if he disagreed with her so she needed control over him, his thoughts and his actions. That's not love. That's not respect. That's not even a relationship. That's a dictatorship.
Worse were the guys trying to impress these women to get in their presence because they had no girlfriend. One of them threatened to rape my pregnant married friend so she'd "know what it felt like". So much for compassion. Two guesses which group seemed happier? We saw some major break ups right in front of us.
Interesting to note, some marriages arose from that time too because people who held similar beliefs got to meet each other when they otherwise might not have. It kind of cut through the rubbish if you know what I mean because people got very honest with themselves and others and really examined what they believed. Even got a few baptisms of adults not raised in the Catholic faith.
Needless to say, we didn't get the outcome we'd hoped for at the time; but today there seems to be an increasing regret among the men of this country that they didn't stand up against abortion when they could have.
There's a lot to be said for choosing carefully whom you choose to give yourself to and looking at the consequences of the choices that you make. It creates your reality a.k.a. your life. Make it a good one! Please. For all our sakes.

I am of Irish background and wouldn't speak for the Irish people but watching it from afar it seemed such a shame. I still though do know if some kinds of Irish men were who they are supposed to be this would not have gone through. I support the Guild of Our Lady of Good Counsel to help ladies who want to keep their babies.

Nobody speaks for the Irish these days. That's our biggest problem. Those supposed to be are just going off and doing their own thing and don't care what we think or believe or hold dear. Last referendum a case in point. Over 70% of people polled didn't want it. They thought it was ridiculous. Who would want to take the word woman or mother out of our Constitution or change the definition of those terms? The government went ahead with it anyway even though the High Court told them it was a bad idea. It cost the Irish taxpayers millions. No one held accountable. They also changed our ballot boxes to something which is very insecure and can be easily tampered with. Like I said. No one speaks for the Irish people these days. We have no voice any more. Our GDP does not reflect the reality because all that money isn't going into our country. Its held by multinational companies. We're getting none of it. Families here are now struggling to make ends meet. Many have become homeless. The government meantime are housing complete strangers off a plane or boat; many not Ukrainian. Then they ran out of places. Now the Irish and the strangers are homeless. Its a ridiculous situation mainly created by outside influences who claim they're not involved in our political system. Our country is about to collapse and nobody cares. But they should. Because being poised on the edge of Europe makes us a prime target for tactical advantages. Pray for Ireland please.

Thank God for reverberating this truth so clearly through Fr Mike!

Fr Mike I do appreciate your way of explaining the theology of the body with the inspiration fr the bible n fr st john paul 2. I am enlightened why there is conflict between me and my husband, defending ourselves of being not competent n not worth loving. Better understood how loving God is in the person of Jesus showing n trusting me that we are all competent to love and worthy to be loved on the cross. I Thank God for you. Praise His Name forever🙏

That's a good one that comes down to the equal thing equal rights and being able to understand the way that one would like to understand something like a holy book instead of only going with the understanding of someone else's understanding of the holy book so it's an equal rights of having your own God understanding within that book. .or with any God religion book. Equal rights to have our own education and or spiritual understanding. Equal rights with that.
