If the deepest secret of God is that God is love, and he made you in his image and likeness, then what's the deepest secret about you? You are made for love.
What does it mean to be human? What was God’s original plan for humanity? For relationships? For marriage? For sex? Why is the body important?
In these four lessons, Fr. Mike leans into the teachings of St. John Paul II and Christopher West, unpacking the mysteries of the human heart, the human body, and relationships.
In this first lesson, we learn about the origins of the Theology of the Body, what it means, and why what we do with our bodies matters. We are taken back to the beginning in Genesis Chapters 1-3, the creation of Adam and Eve. Despite their differences as male and female, we discover how they were equal in terms of dignity yet complementary in their differences.
This series is brought to you for free by Fr. Mike's local ministry, bulldogCatholic. This series is worth more than $80, but bulldogCatholic is providing it free of cost to you. Please donate to support their mission! bulldogcatholic.org/seeds-of-...

Thank you.
Perhaps we can all stop bashing other religions. Buddhism points out that clinging is our suffering together with ego, which is true, in Christianity that would perhaps be translated "of the world" or "earthly things". Being a Protestant, but respectful to other religions, I recognize many things that are the same across religions, although they may be described differently. Another thing, why do Catholics believe Peter or Simon is the foundation for Jesus' church? Is his statement on Jesus in Matthew 16:16 "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" not just the formulation of the cephos/rock/foundation of Jesus' belief? What makes him a pontiff? He seems to be rather unremarkable in the acts of the apostles. If anyone should have qualified as a pope it would have been Paul.
@@wilderness4071Hi❤❤❤
@@wilderness4071 you say one should stop bashing other religions and then proceed to bash the disciple Peter by saying ''He seems to be rather unremarkable in the acts of the apostles". Christ uses the least expected for his glory, he uses the most broken, yes, even the most 'unremarkable' to use your words. Christ's power is revealed in weakness. Lord bless you.
@@angelosioannides8382 I believe you are mistaken, the bible says the meek will inherit the earth not the weak. It is obvious that Peter did not understand Jesus' teachings and he denies Christ 3 times. If you do not know yourselves, then you are in poverty, and it is you who are that poverty. The kingdom of God is in your midst. To the extent adversity removes your ego then maybe the weak can be led to the light, but how many do not instead chose to die in the streets rather than give up on their ego? Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

Seriously! Why can’t we find great men like him to lead us! This boggles my mind.
@@ChristineCoreyhe is leading us.
Oh YES! YES!
Got my vote
yes plsssssss
As a 20 year old man just starting life, the theology of the body shows true masculinity rooted in love from God. Very excited to watch all of the next episodes!
Another 20 year old man just starting life!? Yo... same! God bless. I heard sometime ago from Christopher West that one of the best (if not, the best) ways to discern celibacy is to learn the Theology of the Body. This was like crazy to see in my recommended feed 🤯
20 year old here too!!!
@@kylemcdermott2074 what trash?
God bless you brothers!
Let's do this! The ToB changed my life, I'm excited to keep learning more.
Thank you for your "yes", Fr. Mike! God bless you and your ministry.
Fr. Mike gave huge props to you, Christopher West!
Hi❤❤❤
Amen to all of that. God give us more holy, dedicated, saintly priest like St. John Paul II and Fr. Mike Schmidt.
And we pray for everyone to seek deeper connection with God and find their vocation. Whether it be consecrated life, marriage, or another path.
As a former Buddhist, who almost got ordained to become a Buddhist nun, and now a converted Catholic, I found myself kept knotting in agreement with everything Fr Mike said about Buddhism
Wow

Welcome home.
Greetings from Turkey father. I have been following you for a year and you have helped me a lot to strengthen my faith, God bless you Father Mike Schmitz

Dear Father Mike,
I needed this message TODAY! Thank you for making this available. I’ve been struggling with depression; feeling worthy of love is extremely difficult. I’m thankful that I converted and found the Hallow app and Ascension Press. May God bless you, your students. I hope you come to Paris, France this year or next. Please know there are Protestants who listen to you daily. Bravo 🎉
Que Dieu vous bénisse ✝️
You, friend are NEVER alone😍 Together we are the strongest..
This theology of the body is so incredibly essential and the lack of understanding of this caused great harm to my life, but I am beyond grateful, I am eternally grateful that I heard some of this on youtube during the pandemic when we were all so isolated. The reason, logic, clarity of this purpose for self, relationships and respect for intimacy as God intended, changed my life for the better and helped me to reconcile parts of my life to Christ, and helped me to lay down a lot of burdens and confusion I had carried. It freed me from the painful misunderstanding of the worldly ideals about romance and sex and put all into proper healthy perspective. Humanity is starving to death spiritually from a lack of this most basic understanding of human nature as it should work in relationship to the God that created all life with beautiful purpose. Thank you
Together with Bishop Barron, Fr Mike Schmitz is an asset to the Church, a pillar of evangelisation. I am a cradle catholic and my Faith growth is in large part due to Ascension, specifically thanks to Fr Mike. May God bless and keep him.
Protestants need to turn on to this teaching. It’s powerful. Thank you. Recommending to my Anglican folk.
Dear Father, loved this. Im 63 years old and for the first time all of this makes sense. God bless you
I recommend praying the whole Rosary everyday (all 20 Mysteries). Reflecting on the whole life of Christ through the eyes of Mary everyday is such a grace and such a blessing.
I'm 60 years old United States of America. At 5 years old I walked over to the Methodist Church next door. I heard church music. Salad the adults in the church pew and had juice and cookies. Got communion with the Latin mass Catholic Church fifth grade. Went to a Mormon church invited. So speaking of tongues. People always wanted me to come to church. My mom said up to you. And I was off. Lol. Love you guys priests are the best.
There's to much to write...
Only one point needs to be made!
I thank the Lord Jesus for creating you Fr. Mike!! There are very few that can explain, proclaim the word of God as you do! And bcuz of you, I can learn the word of the Lord that I never understood before this!
So, thank you Fr. Mike and I praise and adore my Lord and savior! ❤🙏
my gosh Father Mike! this is soooo good! i watched with my husband and 1 hour went so fast. thanks for making these crash course accessible to us! thanks Pope St. John Paul II for your teaching. Catholicism is indeed beautiful!
Fr. Mike is the only person on TH-cam who I play at a slower speed 😂❤
I did lower it one speed, but then he sounds like he’s drunk. So I’m gonna have to listen to him at his normal fast speech.
Imagine a dialogue with Ben shapiro. Yikes😊
I had to put him on faster once in BIY😅
What can be better than theology of the body and Father Mike? FATHER MIKE TALKING ABOUT THEOLOGY OF THE BODY AHHHH!!!
God Bless St John Paul ll and dear Father Mike✝️🙏🏻🌹
I have everything I need, except for a genuine loving embrace. Sometimes it's the one real thing that a human being needs. I am not downplaying the importance of the Holy Eucharist in my life, but I often yearn to go to my true home with God the Father. Thank you, Fr. Mike, for shedding light on God's good creation :)
I’ve been there, as another person who primarily feels love through physical touch. I had about 5 years where I rarely received a hug, with the exception of a few genuinely caring ones from friends in times of stress. All of a sudden I would rediscover just how transformative it was to get one hug, and I would literally spend weeks hugging a pillow every time I went to sleep, trying to chase that feeling of genuine love. Then God sent me my now fiancé at a time that was perfect, and I don’t have to hug pillows anymore. He never leaves me without a hug long enough to forget what they’re like.
So I hope you find someone like that soon, because I believe that feeling loved is genuinely a spiritual need. I hope you dream of Jesus holding you close to His Sacred Heart. Imagine yourself there as often as you can. And I hope you find someone who embraces you so often that you never forget how it feels to be held close to someone’s heart.
I learnt a lot, thanks Father. Watching from Ghana 🇬🇭
Thank you Father Mike for answering the Lords calling to teach Gods people
Love is hard to define. The easiest definition (for me) is that love is shown through obedience to God.
Great pre-marriage lecture! At around 45 minutes I wondered what the talk would be from John Paul II to all the generations up til now who have chosen surgeries🖐. from changing our body types to preventing birth. Then I listened to the last part and heard the answer to my question. The "lie" is the same now as it was with the first man and woman and all the "ers". My husband and I talked about Eve this morning and her weaknes and ingratitude for paridise🤷😉. Then concluded our discussion as I remembered the words of the "Exultet". "Oh happy fault which won for us so Great a Redeemer." Thank you!🌹
I love Fr Schmidt. This is a great talk.
Watching from the Philippines!
Love you father Mike from Sydney Australia.
Hi Adelaide ❤
Thank you once again Father Mike! 👏🏻👏🏻The TOB series you did with Nick changed mine and my husband’s lives. It addressed so much hurt from over the 26 years of marriage at that time and allowed us both to start healing and as you said here, untwist what had been twisted in our hearts. A prayer answered! God bless you Father! 😊🙏🏻
45:46 "You'll be like Him" True, but on His terms, not ours
God bless bulldogCatholic. Great talk, Fr. Mike😀✝🙏
This is the first time I realize how beautiful TOB is thank you Father Mike for unpacking the TOB 👍
By analyzing each aspect of "Theology of the Body", Father Mike gives us a fresh perspective on love and the wonder of being human. From the starting point, Father Mike sparked curiosity and a desire to learn more about this important topic.
Thank you Father Mike! Great talk
This is why I still have hope there will be marriage in the resurrection between man and woman. I know the New Testament says we won't be given into marriage but it was also an answer in response to the context of worldly law. He created husband and wife before the fall and this explanation makes perfect sense as to why that wouldn't be done away with later.
There will be no marriage.
Our spouse in heaven is Christ. All souls whether you’re a man or woman are female. Christ marries you. The Bible is about the wedding feast of The Lamb - the marriage between you and Christ.
God love you Fr. Mike! mabuhay!
Thank you for thoroughly explaining Theology of the Body for us. Thanks Fr. Mike for making this accessible to all of us. I do not think that I could get through this on my own. 🥰
Thank you, Father Mike!!!
Your the main reason I watch this channel and for you to have longer episodes I’m all In Father Mike.
I'm 24 minutes in. Thank you for your explantion of the world views. The best I've heard.
God bless you Fr Mike!
I adore this supportive talk.
I believe Christ accepts those same sex relationships, which some enjoy. Why does my Catholic heritage still struggle with this.
The Unity of another is met in friendships for myself. I have lacked the courage to step into love with an intimate other.
But there's time 🙏🏽
Look forward to part two and another peaceful Sunday morning 🌄
Hello Fr. Mike from Melbourne, Australia. This is my second yr knowing you through BIAY. You do such a great job. God bless u fr. I pray for u every single day n Tq for praying for me.
If it has to happen, Theology of the Body helps with healing divorces, too. I begged the diocese that I lived in for 7 years to help people who struggle with divorce or being widowed. My friends did the same thing. We studied this writing by St. Pope John Paul 2, c.s. Lewis, and lots of others. Some got married again, some made vows of lay consecration, some learned that dating again wasn't the end of the world, but just a new beginning. Thanks Ascension Presents for your ministry.
1 Corinthians 15 KJV ✝️🩸
1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
1 John 1 KJV 🩸
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
1 John 5 KJV ♥️
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
@@AlexanderBrown77so you think the person you are quoting the Bible to has never read or heard about it? Cmon take your time and listen to theology of the body, I am sure you have never heard about it nor do you understand it.
@@johnosumba1980 🤔 Well, if they had read their Bible, they would know that the KJV Bible is the seventh Bible translated into English. Is the Catholic Bible the seventh translation of anything?
Psalms 12 KJV
6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
7 Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever.
@@johnosumba1980 🩸🤔 One other question. Christians faith is in the blood of Jesus Christ. what is Catholics faith in?
Romans 3 KJV 🩸
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Romans 5 KJV 🩸
9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
@@AlexanderBrown77 He Jesus Christ established Catholic Church and you can get the answer in the creed.
This is awesome, and thank you so much for sharing it to the world; God bless you Ascension and Father Mike! Glory to Jesus Christ!
This was fantastic. 30 mins or so into watching, I purchased Theology of the Body by John Paul II. I'm so excited to read it and watch the other 3 videos!!! I am sending this video to my 3 older nieces because I want them to know their value SO BADLY!!
Beautiful and Powerful. Thank you, Fr Mike. As you always do, you bring to my heart the words of our Heavenly Father. I'm praying for you. Please pray for me. God bless
Please translate this in every language! It is wonderful! God bless you!
Watching from Uganda. Very good presentation of the TOB
Thank you! As a younger Catholic I have heard about the Theology of the Body. However, I never had the opportunity to hear a lecture on it or read it. This will serve as an introduction to it. ☺ Blessings to you and the Ascension team! 🙏

I just began reading the Theology of the Body in One Hour by Jason Evert! What a great timing where this has been released!
"Be not afraid! - so beautyfull, how I miss you Saint John Paul the II. Thank you Fr. Mike Schmitz for this course and all your work ❤
The comparison of the two gardens towards the end of the video, and highlighting that Jesus did not give way to the dragon but did what he did, made me break into bitter tears. Never before did I realize His Passion so close to my true identity of a woman. And the lie is so clearly exposed. If only I heard this lecture in my youth... and if only all young people heard it now!
Thank you for your efforts to teach and enlighten us, Fr Mike. May God bless you. Claire.
I am confident that this man must be a Saint
But I’m a saint too!
Yessssssss❤
He deserves it
Well THAT just explained the whole experience we had during the abortion referendum in Ireland! When we handed out pro-life literature to the men of the country, you knew straight away what stance the women with them took. If the woman was pro-life, he got to read the leaflet. If the woman was opposed to it, the literature would either be snatched from his hand and either thrown away or handed back to us (those were the civil ones) OR the guy would be publicly and loudly berated by the woman for even taking it and told he shouldn't have a say; it wasn't his body. The majority of these men just stood back and let them. Many didn't even vote.
Some told them they could think for themselves and took the literature back. Usually there was a threat of her leaving the relationship. The He in the relationship "wasn't good enough" if he disagreed with her and she made him feel every bit of it. The She felt threatened and unloved if he disagreed with her so she needed control over him, his thoughts and his actions. That's not love. That's not respect. That's not even a relationship. That's a dictatorship.
Worse were the guys trying to impress these women to get in their presence because they had no girlfriend. One of them threatened to rape my pregnant married friend so she'd "know what it felt like". So much for compassion. Two guesses which group seemed happier? We saw some major break ups right in front of us.
Interesting to note, some marriages arose from that time too because people who held similar beliefs got to meet each other when they otherwise might not have. It kind of cut through the rubbish if you know what I mean because people got very honest with themselves and others and really examined what they believed. Even got a few baptisms of adults not raised in the Catholic faith.
Needless to say, we didn't get the outcome we'd hoped for at the time; but today there seems to be an increasing regret among the men of this country that they didn't stand up against abortion when they could have.
There's a lot to be said for choosing carefully whom you choose to give yourself to and looking at the consequences of the choices that you make. It creates your reality a.k.a. your life. Make it a good one! Please. For all our sakes.
I am of Irish background and wouldn't speak for the Irish people but watching it from afar it seemed such a shame. I still though do know if some kinds of Irish men were who they are supposed to be this would not have gone through. I support the Guild of Our Lady of Good Counsel to help ladies who want to keep their babies.
Nobody speaks for the Irish these days. That's our biggest problem. Those supposed to be are just going off and doing their own thing and don't care what we think or believe or hold dear. Last referendum a case in point. Over 70% of people polled didn't want it. They thought it was ridiculous. Who would want to take the word woman or mother out of our Constitution or change the definition of those terms? The government went ahead with it anyway even though the High Court told them it was a bad idea. It cost the Irish taxpayers millions. No one held accountable. They also changed our ballot boxes to something which is very insecure and can be easily tampered with. Like I said. No one speaks for the Irish people these days. We have no voice any more. Our GDP does not reflect the reality because all that money isn't going into our country. Its held by multinational companies. We're getting none of it. Families here are now struggling to make ends meet. Many have become homeless. The government meantime are housing complete strangers off a plane or boat; many not Ukrainian. Then they ran out of places. Now the Irish and the strangers are homeless. Its a ridiculous situation mainly created by outside influences who claim they're not involved in our political system. Our country is about to collapse and nobody cares. But they should. Because being poised on the edge of Europe makes us a prime target for tactical advantages. Pray for Ireland please.
I was looking for more on this very subject Father, only yesterday looking at collections of JP 2’s work on the theology of the body - very timely, uncanny in fact.
I was created with a purpose and that’s to love God above all things.

This is mind blowing! I set my timer to just listen for 30mins and head for bed, as I'll be having a long day tomorrow. The next thing I realised, I was already at the end of the video, overwhelmed by the truth that I am loved for who I am without being ER. Thank God for reverberating this truth so clearly through Fr Mike!
Fr Mike I do appreciate your way of explaining the theology of the body with the inspiration fr the bible n fr st john paul 2. I am enlightened why there is conflict between me and my husband, defending ourselves of being not competent n not worth loving. Better understood how loving God is in the person of Jesus showing n trusting me that we are all competent to love and worthy to be loved on the cross. I Thank God for you. Praise His Name forever🙏
This is positively awesome Father Mike. Everyone needs to listen to this. I wish I had heard it years ago when I was young. It would have changed the course of my life for sure. Thank you for dedicating your life to teaching us the Bible.
You give the most amazing talks Fr. Schmitz, I hope you are aware of your gifts and are not used by those who talk a good talk about the bible, yet no commitment to Christ and who wrestle with God.
Do you mean Jordan Peterson? Just wondering. I think Jordan is on his way to Christ. Jacob wrestled with God

That's a good one that comes down to the equal thing equal rights and being able to understand the way that one would like to understand something like a holy book instead of only going with the understanding of someone else's understanding of the holy book so it's an equal rights of having your own God understanding within that book. .or with any God religion book. Equal rights to have our own education and or spiritual understanding. Equal rights with that.
