I can totally agree, I did and I went through so much pain. Maybe if I didn't things would have been better, but well, mistakes have been made, now it's time to return to the Lord.
EXACTLY just like marriage-----EVERY day is not a bed of roses or completely being "googly eyed all in love with your spouse". Doesn't mean if it isn't perfect today that I need to leave marriage. It's about the long haul. It's a marathon not a sprint. There are days when it is ALL work and not much joy. But then there are days when it is much more joy then work. Time tells.
Friend, my favorite definition of the word "JOY" was one I got from a parish priest. It was "the conscious possession of a gift". When I use that as my definition, I can see how something difficult, or even painful, can still have joy. Faith is a Gift, Life is a gift, Love is a gift... (etc) so in the midst of a trial if i focus on gratitude for the things I already possess, it takes the edge off of the inadequacies that I have.

If my life has taught me one thing it's this, you can always choose another path if the one you are on isn't giving you fulfilment, but if you expect to be fulfilled simply by changing paths you will almost always be disappointed. My point is this, changing your situation, position, or trade really isn't that difficult. I'm a bit of gypsy so I know that. I have those thoughts often. When my classes don't go well certain days, or relationships don't go well at times, I often think "welp, time for me to start thinking about becoming a priest or a friar". Like I just took a test recently and did poorly and I thought "welp this must be a sign to become a priest". These "signs" often come with anger and frustration, so THAT gives me a clue that becoming a priest is probably not something to think about when I'm angry and frustrated, like how some heroes in the Old Testament were angry and frustrated and wished for death, and God says instead "I have a better idea"
Priests are not happy, joyful, and at peace at all times so please instead seek guidance about discerning it, rather than quickly rationalizing it away. Thus, maybe you are being called, and shouldn't rush away...

This is very true about life as a missionary. There are predictable peaks and valleys, particularly in the first year. There are triumphant moments where you find yourself thinking, "Holy cow; I'm actually doing this!"; discouraging moments where you wonder what ever made you think you COULD do this - and intimidating moments where you can feel almost paralyzed by the overwhelming strangeness of your new country. And you have to be willing to be extremely flexible toward the unexpected (like power that is on only half the time or discovering your local grocery store is always closed on Wednesdays - when that's the only day you had to shop) - while staying committed to the and the work you discerned. It is a joyful, painful, stretching, blessing, exhausting, overwhelming, beautiful - and, at times, ugly - process. And it's the best thing I've ever done!
Thank you Father, that was such a relevant message...that really describes our entire faith journey, to remember the times of consolation when it seems your faith or purpose does not seem as clear cut or dull. Stay the course, consolation will come back. God is good all the time and all the time God is good. (that last sentence was a saying one of my favorite priest would say every time at Mass.)
Father Mike...you are the "Robin Williams" of the Priesthood. Such an A-MAZING mind and an excellent teacher. Thank you for helping us all to learn about what is important!
Whhyyyy is this video so good? Was just in a valley, now in a peak. Honestly, just keep your course. Sweating the small stuff just makes you miserable. Sometimes you just have to take a step back, smell the roses, and see where this particular chapter in your life ends up taking you.
Thank you Father - in Sept 2020 - I start training as an Anglican Priest - God chose my calling at 47 years old, He's been pushing me for years and I have resisted!
Never change your course in desolation when you knew that this was your course in times of consolation. That really spoke to me. Stay your course in times of desolation... wow.
Woooowwwww did this come at such an ideal time in my life! Just last night I was stressing so much about this topic that I went for a walk... after midnight. Bless you, Father Mike!
Father Mike, you give great advice about staying the course in times of desolation. Love it. I love to read C.S. Lewis, too. He was a genius. Excellent. Everyone should read Lewis.
Thank you father. I was just thinking this last night. On your video about reading the Bible and you explained how we play Russian roulette with it and take it as a sign that our father God has that message for us on that particular moment. I read in the beginning pages of the bible where it says that our father God never committed himself to communicate with us through the “russian roulette” method that we used in the beginning. When i returned to my faith Catholicism i took many things as a sign from God that probably wernt signs. But it’s time to change that. Thank you father for touching on this subject and giving us clarity.
Thanks for this Fr. Mike! UMD is blessed by you being here and your wisdom for tomorrow's leaders. This specific word is so relevant for today's students. You're helping to build resilience!
I actually have been out of college for a few years now, it's because I got pneumonia and I couldn't go to class. I'm better now, but now that I think about it, that was kind of a blessing, it's almost like public colleges in the United States are created for you to lose your salvation.
"Never change your course in times of desolation." This is one of the best pieces of life advice that anyone can use. Thank you, Father Mike!

Bro you are the coolest pastor ever! I really appreciated this video! Thank you! 🙏🏾👑💯🖤
Such simple principles Fr. Thanks so much. God bless you and the team. ☺🙏
Brilliant! Not letting our emotions rule over us but rather fall back into the arms of the Lord.
Always comes in perfect timing! God bless you Fr. Mike and the rest of the team!
You seem like a kind caring human being. You must make God Smile Often!!
Father Mike...you are the "Robin Williams" of the Priesthood. Such an A-MAZING mind and an excellent teacher. Thank you for helping us all to learn about what is important!
Thank you fr.Mike
Whhyyyy is this video so good? Was just in a valley, now in a peak. Honestly, just keep your course. Sweating the small stuff just makes you miserable. Sometimes you just have to take a step back, smell the roses, and see where this particular chapter in your life ends up taking you.
Your message is so relevant to marriages today. If you knew it was the right course in good times, when you get to bad ones, stick with your spouse.
The quote you mentioned from St Loyola makes real sense. Thanks for mentioning it.
St Ignatius of Loyola has so much practical advice in his book ‘Spiritual Exercises’
Yes! Thank you Fr. Mike
We need GOOD moral priests like Father Mike.
Thank you Father - in Sept 2020 - I start training as an Anglican Priest - God chose my calling at 47 years old, He's been pushing me for years and I have resisted!
Loved this, super wise & helpful advice. Thanks Fr. Mike, God bless!
Thank you .....just at the right time
Never change your course in desolation when you knew that this was your course in times of consolation. That really spoke to me. Stay your course in times of desolation... wow.
"This too shall pass". - My Dad! :D
Just stand the bad, and you'll return to the good.
Thank you father, this really touched me 4:43
Woooowwwww did this come at such an ideal time in my life! Just last night I was stressing so much about this topic that I went for a walk... after midnight. Bless you, Father Mike!
God Bless Father Mike..
Love your videos...
Thanks Father. Good advice.
great video Father, thank you to you and your team for all you do 👍👍
GOD Bless Everyone!
That was hilarious when he said super jacked. See, Father Mike is so down to earth.
Thank you Father Mike.
Thanks, Fr.
Love Fr. Mike!
“That’s me!” Hahaha God bess you Fr. Mike! You always make me smile!
I loved that part too and giggled!
He has such a child like demeanor.
🌹🌹
❤💙
