    I like the simplicity of your break down on how it works and the materials. Very nice.

    It's amazing how simple it is. It could have been done ten thousands of years ago. Ideas are so powerful and often the lack of them is the only thing holding us back.

    Brilliant! So simple and yet I could never work out how it was done on my own. Thanks very much.

    Have been trying for two years to make an escapement...no luck....Then your video. I ended up using plastic for the escape wheel and coat hanger wire for the anchor....I did find out that the center of gravity for the pendulum is critical. THANK YOU, a lot of fun to run and by adding or subtracting position and mass on the pendulum, very clearly demonstrates how a pendulum actually works. My grandkids were fascinated. THANK YOU

    How do we tune the timing to 1 second? Is there any mathematical calculation with the coil or anything else, which would make it tick perfectly at intervals of one second?

    • @avajo5597

      A pendulum with an adjustable sliding weight...it's the length of the pendulum from top to weight that determines the speed of the swing.

    At what point of swing of a pendulum, should an escapement in a pendulum clock release the energy? Why?

    Put a large round thick paper circle with a line from center on it and you have a minute clock. Just do the math to change the ratio so the paper takes a full minute to rotate. or Change the center gear so it has 15 30 or 60 teeth to make it easier.

    • @ludicscience
      @ludicscience  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Solder Joe Nice, I will di that but with a Verge & Foliot escapement where it is easier to change the period.

    • @Mr.Unacceptable
      @Mr.Unacceptable 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking about it as keeping the description to it's most basic concept and components. Like you have done in this video. You explained it very well. A 1 min clock disk popped on the back would still keep it simple yet would add in how the gear ratios relate to the clock's hands. Maybe a follow up video showing how to do the math to get the ratio correct for 1min 10 min or an hour. Then add in the escapement for the next video. You have potential for a good series of videos started here.
