#1 Model Railway - Trainz 22 - Surveyor 2.0 - We start by creating our room

- In this series we will build a model railway using where possible Surveyor 2.0 in Trainz 22. All the assets which we'll using are from Trainz Tane and onwards and are either in built or free on the download station.
So this build will hopefully answer.
1. Is Surveyor 2.0 ready enough to use right now
2. Are there enough assets from Tane and onwards to do this build.

It would be very cool to have Noch Rosenheim diorama in Trainz. I have this diorama in real life!
I just picked up 22 on sale and am actually watching this series to learn how to use S2.0, the tutorials on UT are less then stellar, with one "this is the X tool, I don't know what that does", not very helpful. It is too bad the 'rotation' setting does not work for objects, so set rotation to 30degrees and that is what it would be pasted into the layout at.
The vid was made about 2yrs ago so there will be differences between it and the surveyor tool now. To be honest the series wasn't really meant to be a tutorial but more of a test. The original idea was to build something only using assets from TANE onwards as TANE was when the the game was re-written from scratch and all game versions after were based on this. Tane onwards use far newer methods to import assets that are far better optimised. It wasn't possible and lots of far older assets still had to be used which was a shame. Because older assets had to be used I also had to swap to the older surveyor tool a number of times as the new editor didn't work with these assets. And when it was time to create the session various scripted assets didn't function and the session constantly broke.
I like Trainz and when it's on sale it's good value. The new surveyor tool is good and has a lot of promise. The only thing I found that was bad was its search tool which by now might have been fixed. At time of this video the search filters were far better on the old surveyor tool.
My advice is to just try creating things. It doesn't matter if they're terrible. I remember the first thing I made, it was truly bad but the more you practice, the more you'll learn the tools and the better you'll get. But mostly... just enjoy the game. It is flawed but it can be fun.

Hey Joseph, very happy you enjoyed. I'm closer to filming the end of the series than the beginning now. It's been fun. At the end of the series I'll be creating a session for the layout so all the engines can drive themselves. It's still around 3weeks away but keep an eye out if you think that might be of use.
I see 2.0 is nearly as infuriating as 1. I might wait until my FCT expires before upgrading from 2019.
Yeah... I think it best thought of as a work in progress. It does have it's nice touches but also has some missing features and some errors are creeping in as I use it. Hopefully theses things will start to get addressed as time goes by.
