    Awesome content. I like the way you explain different techniques and your own ideas on exhaust port configuration. I usually strive for an oval shape when doing an exhaust port. I'm skidding of flats. Ive hung a few rings and messed stuff up before. I didn't know you were an reloader. I am an avid reloader for rifle and shotgun but have been focusing on chainsaws and antique tractors while things calm down in the firearm world.

      I reload 45acp and 308 mostly. I also resize my 308 for my 300 savage. I have been getting into black powder more lately.

    Good porting session. If you reload or know about ballistics, that was a great analogy on exhaust roofs. Well done!

    I have enjoyed watching your porting classes but I'm having trouble finding #12. I hope there is a #12. Do you assemble and test run the saw. When I finished #11 Tinman's videos popped up. I like watching him but I wanted to see you finish and try out your saw. I've got a C-51 I plan to port as soon as Amazon delivers my grinder. PS What you are doing, matching everything up and smoothing out factory defects is similar to what I did back in the late 60's and 70's to small block chevy and Dodge engines. I used an air grinder on cast iron heads and aluminum intakes. Fun stuff!

      TH-cam decided for some reason that a lot of my videos needed to be deleted. The video you are looking for is one of the. I have footage of the saw running its just not included in the Class series of videos. th-cam.com/video/uNL8gR-tUKk/w-d-xo.html

    Does a base gasket not leak? What do you do for air leakage? A simple liquid gasket?

      I use something called Moto Seal that is available at most auto parts stores. It is made for chainsaws and high vibration areas.

    I just opened up my transfers on my VI-955 homelite. I didn't touch the exhaust or intake. Now with the carb one turn out on each H/L screw the saw races then runs out of fuel. Any ideas of what might be going on? I don't think i have an air leak. I used motoseal and put it on both the crankcase and cylinder and waited 24hours before starting it. I did put a OEM carb kit in and i double checked it was correct and that the fuel lever in it was level with the top surface. Just running out of ideas of what can be wrong.

      It sounds like an air leak somewhere in the system. common problems are hole in fuel line or plugged filter. Gasket leaking in carburetor or between carburetor and intake. Blockage inside carburetor. Reed block could be cracked. gasket leaking in crankcase. Crankshaft seals could be worn. Base gasket could be leaking.
      There’s a number of things that can cause it. I would start the saw and use some carburetor cleaner to spray different areas of gaskets and seals. You will know real fast if you find a leak. Pressure testing is sometimes easier if you have the tolls.
      Porting can take a small issue and turn it into a large issue. If you had a small leak before it could be a large leak now. If you reused any gaskets or used motoseal anywhere that is where I would start. Motoseal works good but if there was even a hint of oil on the surface it will not bond to the surface giving you a leak. Gaskets have a way of leaking when reused also.
      Another common mistake is to assemble the carburetor metering lever diaphragm gasket wrong. If the gasket is on the wrong side of the diaphragm it will make the metering lever adjustment all wrong. I have done that a bunch of times.

    What squish and compression did you end up with on this saw? Looking at starting to play around with saw modifications as there's not many people that do it here I the UK. Thanks.

      I ended up in a moving situation before I could finish. I’m at the final assembly stage so we will find out when I can get to it.

      @@Smittyschainsaws that explains why the series isn't finished! Did you ever get the saw back together?

    • @Smittyschainsaws
      @Smittyschainsaws  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FerociousSniper Yes I did. If you look at videos and see me mentioning someone named Simple Man that is the saw I shipped to him. I have another one I am breaking in right now and have a video coming out this week as well as another I am finishing up building right now.

      Just once. I built a 460 and took it halfway across the country with a fith wheel camper. The gas bill was huge!
