Very nice walk through on your transmission build. I really liked the billet piston and new plate.. It should really work good. Great content. Thank you, EM.
He has about 10 jobs in line, but he’s pretty quick. He builds what he can get parts for, first. Rattgarrett@hotmail.com. Mention this video so he knows who sent you.
Thanks brother! I’d rather be lucky than good any day! 😂. But luck favors the prepared. I knew I wanted this one checked out before writing checks that my butt couldn’t cash!
After being afraid of getting into a trans for decades, now I kinda enjoy building em. Think ive done about a dozen for local friends in the last year or two!!
That build looks stout man. She's gonna be able to hold the power for sure! Nice smallblock too. What all is inside the barracuda's engine? Or do you have a video on it? Very cool

Joe, suggestion for a future video, get back together with Garrett and go through the specific parts for a 727/518 street build. The clutches and bands look great, the piston and wave plate info is good but there are things like what are good sprags, which bands to run for street and what for strip, apply arms and ratios for each, any billet parts like accumulator pistons or apply pistons that are good for street, etc.. I bring this up because I've picked up a 518 to go in place of my 727 in my '68 383 Roadrunner. Years ago I worked for a little while building auto trans but everything I did was just back to stock is standard passenger cars and I've only done a single 727 so I don't know what good heavy duty street parts that would also work in my 518 build. As always, great video. Thanks.
Most a518 and 46rh/48re parts fit. Watch Precision Transmissions out of Texas , he is mostly Dodge and Chevy. Search his titles. You’ll see what’s is available if you even search online . I’m doing the same for my daily driver Duster build. It’s a ‘94 46rh/a518 build .
What does a set up like that cost approximately? I have an old 727 that came in a d250 and id love to make it as soild as it can be when it comes time to rebuild her. I figured if I started buying parts when I can, I'll have acquired everything by then. Ive always wanted to learn more about automatic transmission voodoo
This is about as cheaply as you can build a stout one. You can get away with a TF3 transgo kit if you don’t want to spend the money on an aftermarket valve body. Use a TF2 kit if you want to keep the kickdown and it still shift automatically. The majority of parts in my trans in this video were factory. Good clutches and bands. The shift kit will help improve the performance and longevity. I think I had $800 in parts in this one. Labor costs vary depending on who you use. There are some variations in 727’s throughout the years. If you want to learn a lot, watch “Cope Racing Transmissions” on TH-cam.
Thanks brother. He’s been building mine and dads transmissions since 2009. We won track championships, years in a row with simple maintaining. ET may be the same, but I’m switching to a different stall that’s more suited for the car. Should see a couple 10ths.
"Fer starters, hang-on....give me another PBR....the 727 comes with a LOT of extra parts for street drivin'...we don't need none of those." "Now this here wave washer is like a shot of nitro-cellular torque adder....not many folks know about it...hang-on"....(beer can being opened...)... "If you leave that nitro wave washer out, you might as well go sleep with yer sister.....really bad idea..."...brb, I gotta drain the weasel....
Building a 727 to work at 550hp is child's play. We have them out there behind engines making 800-900hp and it doesn't take shiney billet parts as much as someone that understands what's needed. For the low hp stuff I use the 904.
I agree. I usually stay away from the 904’s because I want the longevity and less expense in a bracket car. I may have permanently switched to low deck big blocks from now on.
I tried finding this post i saw you write awhile ago and just spent 20min to say man i wish like hell you could either share those tips or give some insight. Whether it be on the youtube here or if you could email. Id be like a kid in the candie shop if i could get that kind of info from ya. Either way i get it completely if that kind of info you dont wana put out there but im so damned impressed when guys like you are able to build them without all the fancy parts, so my hats off for sure. Definitely got the right transmission guy there. Nice hop at the end. Can’t wait to see it in person.
Thanks,Mark! It’s really just an old bracket car. But those are the best!

Taking that transmission of yours to another level. Very nice Joe...
Thanks brother! Should work great for my little small block 🥳
Great summary of the transmission build, that thing is going to have no problem smashing through the gears down the strip!
Full manual, reverse valve body. Thanks Duddie! Gonna hit the track as soon as the weather allows.
Good video! Those clutches are huge compared to my C4 clutches lol
They’re stout units. Held up behind the 426 hemi and more. Throw that behind Casper!

Awesome stuff. Some of my transmission parts and my converter is from TCS in Langley. Amazing guys

Getting exciting getting ready for race season😜😁
Yes sir! Trying to test this Saturday, Lord Willing
Beautiful video like the man said clean clean!! Love it man!
Thanks John! He’s thorough and doesn’t make me spend extra money.

Fish on! Looking good Joe!
Thanks brother. Good to go. If weather cooperates, I’ll see a track Saturday

Awesome! Ratt showed me last time and we built it together. He didn’t pull a boom for a single spec. He knew them. It was cool.

I definitely will. He’s rebuilding the one year only, 727 for the street for the 65 coronet, column shift. Only guy I’d trust with that.
Did you leave the stock front drum in or upgrade to steel?
Stock front drum. I don’t run a trans brake. The stock does well with my power level, even with big blocks. Never had an issue.
wicked , wicked pissa !
Should be great for another few seasons
Should hold. Stout unit for sure
Definitely! She’s better than before and was doing well. Had about 100 passes on it in the last few years. Not a spec of metal in the filter.
Stock drum Joe ?
Yes sir. It will work great for me, as I don’t run a trans brake. It should hold more than I can throw at it!
