Couple things worthy of mention: most important is the -3 at the end of the casting indicating it being in the 3rd run of the mold. That block ought to be pretty squared up. Next is the intake, biggest issue with 400's is the garbage exhaust recycling 'lean burn' bs. Chucking that intake for literally anything else would be the biggest improvement. That color is correct corporate blue about 74 thru 78
In the think they used the duplicolor variant, which is off from the rest of the block.
My best friend in high school had a 71 charger se with a factory hurst shifter 400 big block him and some guy he meet rebuilt the motor but used the 383 spark plug wiring order instead of the 400 patern is there any benefit to that or where they just talking shit
Haha! It’s exactly the same! Definitely a 💩 talk 😂
@@JustMoparJoe lol ive been wondering about that 40yrs lol i guess inever cared til now
I know you're plan sir, as I am considering the same thing in a roundabout way 🤔
I’ll see how it goes 👍🏼
@@JustMoparJoe you make the blueprint and I'll follow 😆
Thanks. They used to have a telethon for Mopar community head guy was Jerry Lewis love them special people ❤❤😂
I’ve heard of that lol
You can't beet a big block mopar I've been been 10;50 with a very mild motor.
Awesome Dale!
I think I detect a stroker on the horizon 👀
I’ve got a superb stroker crank, but I’ll save it for my next racecar build 🤑🤫
Engine is years old. Certainly had water pump and thermo replaced. - I imagine it has been into a few times. -
Replacement oil pump would draw questions.
Sooo, 451 low deck Big Block?
It’ll be a 500ish someday, but not yet. I have a crank and rods, but no pistons yet.
What’s up Joe time for some automotive archaeology
It’s fun stuff! Happy Saturday, brother
Is everything okay so far Joe
Looking good so far, brother! I’ll keep you posted
Ok I just want to make sure you're happy
451 stroker?
A fine idea, but not with this one.
The dipstick is in my motor though I stole it I didn't have one for my 400 I forgot to tell you but I did cap it of
Thanks brother! I saw you called! I’ll give you a shout back soon.
No it's okay you ain't got to call me I'm checking on a couple more Big blocks for us ones at 440 and the other one is a 400 so I keep you posted on their motors if I can buy them
Stroker!
Got one coming up! It’ll be a 440 base
Let’s have some fun with predictions. Lol. Big block dodge Omni wheel stander. K car bb swap. Bb boat build. Bb mud race buggy. Lol.
All those would be good! 💪🏻
😊👍
Thanks Shane! I happen to have a fine Michigan intake that’d fit it!
Awesome 😃
This man tried to put a big block in a dart sport
I am for sure
@@JustMoparJoe don’t you have to cut the wheel wells to make it fit in an A Body?
@@SkySprice no sir. I had a 383 sitting in place with stock manifolds.
@@SkySprice th-cam.com/video/PN-Xd1x_QbI/w-d-xo.html
@@JustMoparJoe Man. That’s wild. I was always told big blocks wouldn’t fit in an A Body unless you cut pieces out. I have a 74 Dart Sport myself, although I’m more of a small block fan anyway so I’ll stick with my 360
All You really want is block any way, isn't it? seems like stroker kit & aluminum heads would be the way to go
Dan, I’d like to make this engine a nice test mule for the channel. I have a good stroker crank, and rods, but it’s a good candidate for when my barracuda turns big block
Hey I have a 1972 400 if you need parts
Thanks Tyler. I think I’m good right now. I appreciate it
1 have 2 of these 1976
Sweet! Mopar to the front
Hmmm boost perhaps LOL
I think you hit the nail on the head 💨
😮
W pump is clocked wrong w hole s be 600 position
Thanks Jim. I think I mentioned that one.
That 400 looks like a cream puff. I love finding an engine that looks so untainted with someone who has tinkered and abused it.
Absolutely. Swooped In for the save!
Just get it through your head that the old wives tale of thin wall mopar big blocks is not true in fact later 70s blocks were stronger in critical places but a little bit softer on hardness of the iron.... I'm going to buy an affordable sonic thickness tester just to test the 17+ blocks I have that range from 70 to 78.
I’m there. I’m waiting on the weak Mopar blocks to show up. Maybe I’m not testing them hard enough? Lol
I bet this is a nice break from body work
I promise! Tired of being Joe Bondo for a while.
