I like a single action OTF for serious SD carry because the blade is fully powered all the way out. If blocked on opening, when it clears the block, the blade will extend on out to fully open. Here is where the weakness of Halo and most SA OTFs appears: they use the blade release button as a blade lock. The problem is the blade can bounce slightly and when the button is released, the blade doesn't lock. What is needed is the same interlock found on side openers...a release button and an independent blade open lock! Then the blade would lock the instant it hits full extension. Microtech did build a model with this dual release/lock but did not incorporate it on the Halo series. A strong enough spring would have enough extended force to fully extend even after initial blade bounce, but a separate lock would ensure lockup and result in a stronger lockup.
I know it's an old video but... How did the store get the knife in the first place? It was shipped. How did the consumer get the knife? It was shipped. Now, when you need to fix the knife... NO, IT CAN"T BE SHIPPED. Does Microtech hand deliver these knives to the store? No. Edit: Thanks for taking the time and having the balls to do this disassembly. It's much appreciated!
I'm with you man. Makes no sense! There are Global kitchen knives being shipped through the mail that wayyy more dangerous than this! Thanks for watching.
Nice job! What a pain. I had to send back a Microtech UDT and was given that same BS you were, mine actually had a defective spring in it, so eventually they agreed to take it back.

The bit kit that you used to disassemble your halo, are they still available? I got one from pvk and it fit but there must be some loctite on the screws bc the screws didn't budge and the bit just stripped and now its useless. Next time I'm going to try applying heat w a heat gun for the loctite but don't want to risk getting another bit from pvk if I can find one elsewhere
I was looking for the follow up from the video where you talked about sending it in from 8 years ago. This says 4 years ago. Would love to see if the halo is still around?
I’ve not had to use their warranty program at all. But according to some of the people in a group I’m a member of, it is extremely easy now. Idk if you still have it? Do you have others? Would love to see an update video on how this one is still holding up and/or video of others from your collection. Loved seeing someone whose actually used their knife talk about it. I love collecting knives. But they are tools and intended to be used.
Federal law forbids using the use of USPS to ship automatic knives, even though BladeHQ does it, Microtech will not. I sent one of my Microtechs in for reblading and had it back in 2 weeks, but I live in a state where owning an automatic is not illegal. I would guess you live in a state where automatic knives are illegal unless you are active military, police or first responder. You really can't be pissed at Microtech for not breaking the law.
I live in FL, hardly anything is "illegal" here. If USPS can't do it, how about FEDEX? If they ship handguns what's the big deal about a knife. Automatic or not?
That blade deployment was hilarious 😂
Use a coat hanger. Put it through the spring. It makes it a million times easier.

Great to see your shop back up and running!
The clone Halo version from Wish is literally the exact same accept the steel on Wish is AUS 8. It’s $48. I love my clone.
I thought that too, until I got the real one
Dude you got a Microtech knife! That's awesome
Richard harris love my utx70 and trodon

I'll work up to a halo 1 day. Probably the only otf I'd buy. I loke fixed blades personally. Still fun vid

I must have missed the part where you skeeted a lil Crisco in there. Great Video.
Take it to a local knife shop or police supply store. They'll send the knife in for repair for you. Good upload!
Trying to find the tool set you purchased on eBay. Trying to disassemble a halo 6. Can you send link or description? Thanks.

Is this the same halo from the video from 8 years ago? Did they refurbish it when you sent it in? Or is this a new knife?
They made it such a pain I never sent it in.

Figure it out BEFORE you make a video
I didn't want to do it twice
