I will save your video for when I leave for more than a couple of day. Thank you!!! Also are your pings just growing in moss? I would love to grow them on moss but wasn't sure if I could do it successfully, considering I only have a couple. I can't afford to loss my few ping.
Hi Rémy! Let me give you an advice. The best option for keeping your nepenthes alive when you are in holidays, if you haven’t obviously misting system, is filling generously pitchers of water. Remember pitchers are not only catch and digestive structures, but also water stockage structures. When à nepenthes begins to get thirsty, the first indicator is getting the old pitchers empty. (I would say that this situation comes before stopping the formation of new ones, because plants always try to progress, to thrive, and it’s better growing up and forming new pitchers than conserving the old ones). So, if you want to save or économise water, the best trick is to fill the pitchers. By order: continu to get the humide up with automatic systems. Preventing to lose water controlling the evaporation (reducing hot), giving to plants extra water (better in the pitchers than in the trays ). Probably, a combination of those two last things is better because if you put water in trays, you’re gonna high the humidity up, so you’re gonna reduce the leaf’s transpiration, and so the dehydration (which led to get the pitchers empty) By the time, you will learn is easier and better and more successful cultivating in a grow tent than in a windowsill. Everything is automatic and so controlled. Environmental conditions are so more stable and plants growth are gorgeous! Regards!
You are right and I know it's easier in a grow tent (or greenhouse or terrarium) but the windowsill option is by far the cheapest for beginner ;) And the temperature drop is easier to get for me here in Canada. ;)
I have always let my nepenthes sit in a tray of water when going on vacation without any issue. I think if the plant is healthy and in a relatively tall pot, sitting in water temporarily is not a problem.
nice tips, always stressing to leave for a while when you have to care for those a bit every day. Hey Remy, are your automatic sprayers connected to the tap water ? or do you have any RO system to remove the tds from the water that they use ? thanks
For the last month or 2, I've been using spreader mats (a cappilary mat would be great too, but I can´t find those here in NL) to wick the water from a full tray of water. I've raised the pots to be around the same level as the top of the trays, and have a dish under them. As long as there is good contact between the mat and the sphagnum moss in the pot you hardly have to water anymore. With this setup I can easily skip watering for a month at least.
@@tironjr You have a problem with it? FYI, my temperature range from 14ºC (Winter nights) to 26ºC (Summer days). it's not always that hot/cold every days but the temperature always drop
I’m going to Maine in 2 weeks and I’m worried about two of my plants the dry out in a day because they need to be repotted but before I love leaving and seeing what happened during the time I was gone
Interesting video. Thanks for making it and putting it up...👍
Perfectly on time for my vacation in a few days, thank you!

All my ping are in peat/perlite 50/50. The moss is only on the top
@@WindowsillNepenthes thank you for letting me know. I hope you had a great vacation!!
Great video! I think it's very fascinating how fast the sphagnum recovers and how well.
It really is! I was expecting it to take 3 days
Perfect timing😊

In the grow tent, the sprayer is connected to a tank filled up with RO water ;)

Yes I've watched videos about that. It looks great inside a tent :)
Hey great Video as always! Do you have any advice to grow Robcantleyi successful?
Mine is slow but growing, It's still a little new to me but it looks like it love the temperature drop at night with good airflow
@@WindowsillNepenthes ok thanks maybe it's the Airflow.

Remy, can you tell me more about the yellow plastic labels (seen in the grow tent AFTER section)? What machine are you using ?
That's the name tags that came with my MT order ;)

It's really case by case, how long will you be away?
@@WindowsillNepenthes I don’t know lol my parents never tell me anything
My sib x (maxima x ephippiata) is doing great with lower humidity on the windowsil
Cool! What humidity do you have? What temperature day and night?
@@WindowsillNepenthes avg 35-50 humidity, day temps in summer 83 high 68 low
Grow lights are on from 8 am to 12 am
@@Gehrungs_Greenhouse Thanks! So I guess my windowsill isn't warm enough then. Good to know.
Neps, even highlands seem to grow faster when its about 80! Just need the temp drops at night:)
What water trays do you use?
That's the regular 10x20 inches you find in hydroponic store. Sometimes I find thick heavy duty one and they are great.
Wow
Am i first
