    BEFORE my vacations:
    2:23 STEP 1, Your water reserve must be large enough.
    3:51 STEP 2, If possible, avoid direct sunlight.
    5:14 STEP 3, Try to limit evaporation as much as possible.
    AFTER my vacations:
    9:13 The result after 3 weeks without care.
    12:13 STEP 4, The post vacation care I do to make sure my plants don't skip a beat.

      He is a Nepenthes Alata. I got them 40 or so days ago. When the plant arrived, it rotted some pitchers just like you said in your video :)

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1beastcat438 just for you to know, except if it comes from a carnivorous plants nursery, you have 99% chance your alata is in fact hybridized with ventricosa: Nepenthes x ventrata.

      When my pitcher plant arrived it had the label “Alata Nepenthes,” so I’m pretty confident he is an Alata. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a Ventrata though, the temperature fluctuates a lot in Southwest America and the plant is still really happy!

    • @WindowsillNepenthes

    I was worried about root rot if I left them in a tray of deeper water for a long weekend. I live in a dry climate so the water evaporates quickly. I bought a gravity pet water dish with a reservoir and cut the dish off. So the reservoir will fill my tray if needed.

    Hi Remi could I use capillary matting along my greenhouse benches to stand my nepenthes pots onto it, so they absorb water as needed ? I will add the capillary matting to a large bucket of reverse osmosis water so it will soak up the water to take across the benches. I'm going away for 2 weeks and no one available to look after my collection, thought capillary matting would be okay ?? Looking forward to your kind reply. Peter from uk

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never used it but that could work. If you don't have any other solution (like an automatic spray) it worth trying. Usually if you water from the top, the substrate stays moist for 2 weeks (except if it's really hot). Especially in a humid greenhouse.

    Liked and subscribed. I mostly grow orchids and some hoya, but would like to try a nepenthes as I find them so fascinating. Which ones would you suggest that would do okay for a beginner? Also, noticed when you watered that water got into the crown or growing point. I guess it's okay for nepenthes? For orchids it's best not to as it can cause rot. Very interesting video. I will be on the hunt for some nepenthes now! Thanks for sharing your plants and your knowledge.

    • @WindowsillNepenthes
      @WindowsillNepenthes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!
      In my opinion the most resistant nepenthes are the hybrids. And indeed, in nurseries we very often find hybrids:
      - Nepenthes X Ventrata ( alata × ventricosa )
      - Nepenthes X Miranda ( (northiana x maxima) x maxima )
      with these two hybrids you shouldn't have any problem.
      Regarding watering, nepenthes are relatively resistant to rots. Some live on the ground and can suffer rain in the natural environment. The only times I have heard of rot was when it was in a very closed area with no aeration or ventilation. Quite the opposite of a windowsill right?

    • @roseberzai892

      Thanks for your reply. I have an order of hoya and fertilizer coming soon from Brads Greenhouse, now I regret not checking out the nepenthes available as paying for shipping anyways so I should have added a nepenthes to my order.

    Would your method work if I do everything you suggested but use rocks in tray with the water just enough so that the plants are not sitting in the water, instead of the Long spagnum moss or do I need to use the long spagnum moss ? I have rocks at home that I use for humidity trays for my plants, but I could get long spagnum moss if that’s better.

    Remy.. Nice video. I love your work. Question though. I have my plants in trays sitting on grids so the water level is below the base of the pots. If going away though are you suggesting to fill the water level to above this so that the pots are actually sitting in water for a good while. I did not think Nepenthes liked to sit actually in the water like many other carnivorous plants. Or do I just put as much water as I can in my trays so it just reaches the base of the pots. Then use foil as suggested? Thank you. Keep up the good work . I have subscribed and liked of course.
