- An exquisite glimpse at the creative processes behind the Iris van Herpen ‘Hypnosis’ collection ∞ see the collection transform over six months, from inside our Amsterdam atelier and the studios of collaborators Anthony Howe and Philip Beesley, followed by the finishing preparations ahead of the Couture show in Paris.
The collection is inspired by the hypnotic manifolds within our ecologies through the work of American artist Anthony Howe. The three-dimensional cyclical harmony of Howe’s kinetic sculptures is the wind beneath the wings of this collection. Howe's spherical ‘Omniverse’ sculpture explores our relationship with nature and intertwines with infinite expansion and contraction, expressing a universal life cycle. The meditative movement of the ‘Omniverse’ serves as a portal for the collection and the models, encircling a state of hypnosis.
The collaboration with Howe evolves ‘in an ecstasy of attentiveness’ through the symbiosis of all the elements of nature that are dependent on each other. As one of the key pieces of the collection, the finale ‘Infinity’ dress comes alive on the breath of a finely balanced mechanism. An engineered skeleton of aluminium, stainless steel and bearings is embroidered with a delicate layering of feathers in cyclical flight; revolving around their own centre. ‘Hypnosis’ reflects the beauty and complexity of our environment, exploring the patterns and structures within its fragile landscape.

I agree, It's been quite plain and boring since McQueen passing (RIP), designers nowadays are less innovative and relay on influencers to get attention, it was about time someone created something that genuinely interested me (I'm not really into fashion but I like clothing design and art).
I agree and I appreciate her work so much. She is the true icon of Haute couture which is getting lost amidst this wilderness and trend-worshipping era. Her art reminds me of the stories I've heard from my great-great-grandmother. She is what Chanel was once.

I wasn't going to comment but how can I leave without saying how mesmerized I am by the creativity, workmanship and dedication it takes to make exquisite clothing. Bravo to Iris and her team!!! The delicacy of the fabrications are ethereal. I'm always interested in the mind that comes up with unique ways to make clothing this special. She's so fascinating and inspirational to watch. Wish I could move to Amsterdam and work for you Miss Harpen. I'm trying to do this therapeutic, tedious work + hand sewing garments, in the midst of losing my "day job", being kicked out of my home that I was successfully paying for, and through pain staking verbal/physical, disrespectful harassment, being brought back to my mother's chamber. -_- Hoping this technique/ability shows it's love to me soon. Love your work and the time it takes to produce beautiful designs like these.

Seeing Iris van Herpens work is the first time in a very long time that I have felt genuinely excited and inspired by fashion (the last time was Issey Miyake in the 80s). Although most fashion is certainly beautiful, it frequently seems to be business as usual. I am truly grateful to have discovered her miraculous work.

She needs to do something about the footwear, fast, because it is not coherent w/ the futuristic aspiration of her clothes.
I agree this current collection has a much more commercial feel to the footwear. But not so with her past collections. The United Nude and Carolin Hozhuber collaborations, for example, both featured very unique designs that I would definitely say are coherent with her aesthetic. Maybe she'll go back to more conceptual shoe designs in the next collection.
